Are All People Children of God?

Are All People Children of God? Does every person regardless of background, religion or race have the right to call themselves children of God?
What does the Bible say?

Whilst it is true that the whole of mankind was created by God, however due to the fall of Man in the Garden of Eden, the Scriptures clearly differentiate between people who are children of God and people who are NOT God’s children.

According to the Bible only a person who is born again/Christian/saved is viewed by God as being a child of God.

Bible Verses About People Who Are Children of God

John 1:12-13 NKJV
But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

Romans 8:14-17 NKJV
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

1 John 3:1 NKJV
Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.

A person can only become part of the family of God when he/she genuinely makes a decision to believe & receive Jesus Christ as his/her Lord & Saviour (John 1:12, John 3:16).

A person does not become a child of God on the virtue that they are God’s creation but we become children of God by believing that only Jesus Christ gives us access into the family of God by the grace of God. (Ephesians 2:8, John 14:1-6)

God loves ALL people regardless of whether that person is Christian or non-Christian. However God loves us ALL so much that He sent Jesus to die on the cross for our sins so that whosover believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16)

Scriptural Names Given To Non-Christians
In the Scriptures, the non-Christians / non-believers are never referred to as being God’s children. Instead, non-believers are given other names which are as follows:

  1. Sons of disobedience – Ephesians 2:2 NKJV
  2. Children of wrath – Ephesians 2:3 NKJV
  3. Children of the devil – John 8:44 NKJV, 1 John 3:10 NKJV
  4. Friends of the World / Enemies of God – James 4:4 NKJV

Therefore, as long as a person does not become a born again Christian, in the eyes of God this person is not seen as a child of God.
