What Happens When You Become A Christian?

What happens when you become a Christian? What happens at the moment of your salvation when you put your trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour?
The answer is – there are many things that happen from the day you become a Christian. Most of the things that happen are spiritual and therefore are not immediately evident to the physical senses. Therefore even if you don’t feel like a Christian when you accept Jesus Christ – it does not mean that you are not a Christian.
The life of a Christian is not lived according to emotion or feelings but the life of a Christian is lived by faith in God and in what He says in His word.
Hebrews 10:38 says “Now the just shall live by faith…” and Ephesians 2:8,9 says that our acceptance of Jesus Christ as Saviour is by grace through faith in Christ. It is not by feelings, emotions or any form of personal effort but through only faith or trust in Christ.

The following things happen when you become a Christian

1. You Are A Child of God
When you become a Christian you become part of God’s family. You officially become an adopted son or daughter of God. You are eternally a family member in God’s kingdom through Jesus Christ.
John 1:12-13 NKJVBut as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
Romans 8:16 NKJVThe Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God

2. The Holy Spirit Dwells Inside You
The moment you accept Jesus Christ the Holy Spirit dwells inside of you. You are sealed with the Holy Spirit. God Himself is not only with you but God is INSIDE you.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NKJVOr do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.
Ephesians 1:13-14 NKJVIn Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.

3. You Are A Born Again New Creation in Christ
Accepting Christ immediately makes you a new creation. When you become a Christian you become born again and are spiritually regenerated. You are born again not as a result of a person’s effort but you are born again as a result of the Holy Spirit through the hearing of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJVTherefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
John 3:5-6 NKJVJesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

4. Your Sins Are All Forgiven & Forgotten
When you become a Christian all your sins are forgiven. Your sins have been paid for on the cross by Jesus. The sins of mankind where transferred to Christ and when we accept Jesus the righteousness of Christ is imputed on Christians. The Christian is no longer condemned.
Colossians 2:14 NKJVHaving wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.
Romans 8:1 NKJVThere is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

5. You Have Eternal Life & Are Saved From Hell
The moment you become a Christian your eternal life begins. Christians have eternal life through Christ but those who are not Christians do not have eternal life but face the Second Death which is eternal punishment. Therefore as a Christians you will be eternally with God while the unbeliever will eventually face eternal separation from God.
John 3:16 NKJVFor God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
1 John 5:12 NKJVHe who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

6. Your Salvation Is Secure In Christ
When you become a Christian you cannot lose your salvation. Once you are saved you are always saved. God will not undo your salvation. The blood of Christ has fully paid for every sin of the believer.
John 10:28-29 NKJVAnd I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand.

7. You Are Blessed With Every Spiritual Blessing
Ephesians 1:3 says that “we are blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ”.
This scripture does not speak of material blessing but it speaks of the Christian having access to spiritual blessings. The Christian is fully satisfied in God who is all that we ever need.

8. You Are Part of The Body of Christ
1 Corinthians 12:20 NKJVBut now indeed there are many members, yet one body.
Becoming a Christian immediately causes you to become part of the body of Christ. You are part of the Church. The church is a combination of all genuine Christian believers from different denominations, local assemblies and nations. All genuine Christians from different parts of the world make up the church.
1 Corinthians 12:12 NKJVFor as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ.
1 Corinthians 12:27 NKJVNow you are the body of Christ, and members individually.

There are many other things mentioned in the Scriptures which happen to a person as a result of becoming a Christian. The Bible mentions at least more than 50 things that happen as a result of accepting Jesus Christ. All these scriptures will be mentioned in another article.

DO YOU WANT TO BE A CHRISTIAN or A FOLLOWER OF JESUS CHRIST???

1. ACKNOWLEDGE: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). “God be merciful to me a sinner” (Luke 18:13).
You must acknowledge that you are a sinner and that you therefore need Jesus in your life.

2. REPENT: “Unless you repent you will all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3), “Repent therefore and be converted that your sins may be blotted out” (Acts 3:19)
Repenting means: to change your mind; a sincere turning away, in heart, mind and action;
Therefore God wants you to repent of sinful values and of sinful living. God wants you to decide to
follow Him and to make Jesus the Lord of your life.

3. CONFESSION: “If we confess our sins. He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9)
God is a forgiving God. God will forgive any sin that you have done because Jesus died for ALL your sins and to set you free from the bondage of all types of sin in your life.

4. BELIEVE: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
You must believe that ONLY Jesus can save you and restore your relationship with God. You must believe that Jesus is the ONLY way by which you can have everlasting life and escape from eternal separation from God. You must believe that Jesus died on the cross for you and resurrected from the grave.
“He came to His own, and His own did not receive him, But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name” (John 1:11-12)
By faith, You must receive Jesus as Your Lord & Savior and therefore; you become a child of God; you become born again; you become a Christian; you restore your broken relationship with God

Why Not Make Your Eternal Decision NOW?

We become born again Christians by GRACE through FAITH or TOTAL TRUST in Jesus Christ as our Lord & Savior (Galatians 3:26) & (Ephesians 2:8,9). Salvation is a FREE gift received through FAITH in Christ.

PLEASE NOTE: You can choose to pray in your own words. This prayer is a sample prayer and it is only an EXPRESSION of your faith, belief & trust in Jesus. Salvation is by GRACE through FAITH or BELIEVING in Christ Jesus as your Lord & Saviour.

“Lord Jesus, I thank You for Your love. I thank You that You died on the cross for me and resurrected so that I may have life through You.
I confess Lord that I have sinned against You and today I ask You to forgive me of all of my sins, past present and future.
I repent of all of my sins and I ask You to cleanse me Jesus.
Thank You for forgiving my sins.
From this moment, come into my life Lord Jesus & take full control of my life. I want to follow You Jesus and I want to follow Your ways. Save me and from today, make me the person You want me to be.
I receive You Lord Jesus right now by faith. I trust You as my Lord and Savior – Amen”
