Is It Okay To Be Transgender?

Is it okay to be a transgender? Can somebody be born with the wrong gender? Why is the transgender topic becoming a headline issue in certain countries?

What is a Transgender?
A Transgender is a person whose gender differs from the one they were given when they were born. For example, a person who was born a male may later decide to transition to become a female. Such a transition may include change of style of dress; change of name; and also change of physical appearance through surgery and hormone medication.
Such transitions will of course have a spiritual, emotional, psychological and social consequence on the transgender person.

How Many Genders Exist?
The Bible tells us clearly that there are only 2 genders among humans. They are male and female.
Genesis 1:27 says “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them”.
Genesis 5:2 also says “He created them male and female, and blessed them and called them Mankind in the day they were created”.
Therefore God only recognizes mankind as either male or female and not transgender.
When God created mankind, God saw that it was very good (Genesis 1:31). Therefore when God created mankind as male and female He did not make a mistake to create only 2 genders.

Should People Change Their Genders?
Should people who are born with a particular gender, change their gender?
The answer is NO.
A person should not change his or her gender. God did not make a mistake when you were born with your particular gender. In each of our lives, God has a reason why we are either born male or born female.
God’s word is clear regarding the issue of homosexuality and being transgender
Romans 1:26-27 says “For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due”.
Deuteronomy 22:5 says “A woman shall not wear anything that pertains to a man, nor shall a man put on a woman’s garment, for all who do so are an abomination to the Lord your God”.

What Are The Causes For Why People Change Their Genders?
Some men say they feel like a woman who is trapped in a man’s body. Some women feel like they are a man trapped in a woman’s body.
Is this really true? How important are these feelings when making a life choice in relation to becoming a transgender?
These type of feelings should never be trusted. The cause of such feelings can be due to poor self-esteem, past emotional abuse, past sexual abuse and even inappropriate conditioning of the mind pertaining to one’s own gender. For example, as a boy grows up, he might be conditioned to identify more with people of the opposite sex.
Gender identity is a developmental issue, and it starts at birth. As a child grows, is his true gender being affirmed; has this child grown to hate his own gender due to emotional or sexual abuse; does this child have a good role model who can help him grow and embrace the gender that he was born with?
There is no evidence that a person is born as a transgender just as there is no evidence that a person is born a homosexual.
Becoming transgender is a choice that is caused by inappropriate beliefs or wrong thinking about gender.
Our thinking and beliefs should be Biblical and godly. When we believe the word of God in an area in our life, we allow God to condition our minds to think as He thinks in that particular issue in our life.
We must understand that in God’s eyes there are only 2 genders: male and female.
We are all born either male or female and it is never a mistake.
The transgender issue reflects confusion about one’s gender and not necessarily insight. The transgender person is confused regarding their identity as a person and as a gender.

How Can A Person Stop Identifying As Transgender?
The biblical view is that God’s intent for every male is to grow into masculinity, and for every female to grow into femininity. There is no person who is born with the wrong gender.
To stop identifying with being transgender, one must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He must experience the transforming power of Jesus Christ in his/her life.
Therefore one must become genuinely born again by accepting Jesus Christ as Lord & Saviour (John 1:12).
Without God working in our life, we cannot fully embrace the way that God has made us. When we have God in us we stop becoming self-conscious but we become God-conscious.
Our identity should be in Jesus Christ and not in how we feel. We should not be governed by our emotions alone but we must be governed by the living word of God (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
God can help transgender people to deal with their confusion and to deal with the deep-rooted emotional and spiritual issues that has caused them to think incorrectly about their genders.
