Do Christians Serve An Angry God?

Does God get angry? Why would God become angry? Who or what angers God? Do Christians serve a harsh and angry God?
There are people who believe that God is an angry God and these people are of the opinion that if God is so loving – then why would He get angry? These people also believe if God has unconditional love, then He shouldn’t respond in anger and also that He shouldn’t discipline or punish people.

To understand the nature of God we need to understand His character in context of the scriptures. We also need to keep in mind that God’s nature is not one dimensional just as our nature as humans is also not one dimensional. We were made in the image of God and therefore this means there are certain communicable attributes that are in God that are also in humans. Examples of God’s communicable attributes which are found also in humans are, the ability to love, to empathize, to feel, as well as human characteristics such as patience, mercy, humility, desire for justice and so forth.
Anger is also a communicable characteristic that both God and humans express for various reasons.

Does God Get Angry?
The Bible clearly demonstrates that God indeed does get angry. There are over 20 verses throughout the scriptures that speak of God getting angry.
When we categorically and contextually study the scriptures relating to God’s anger, we will discover that God does not get angry just for the sake of it. We will also discover that God is not a brooding and constantly angry God.
The Bible clearly demonstrates that God is not short-tempered but God is SLOW to anger (Exodus 34:6; Psalms 103:8; Nahum 1:3).

Why Would God Become Angry? Who or What Angers God?
Why do people become angry? Some people get angry when they experience injustice. Some people get angry when they see others suffer. Some people get angry when they experience hatred and bigotry.
There are 2 types of anger: Righteous Anger and Unrighteous Anger and God always models righteous anger.
Why does God get angry? What angers God?
Romans 2:5 says “But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God”
God is righteously angry at a world that rebels and wants to live a life apart from Him.
God is righteously angry at a world that would choose to worship false gods instead of Him – the one true God.
God is righteously angry at the sins that have infected individual hearts of people and that people would rather choose to live in sin & darkness than to be set free in Christ (John 3:18-21).

God Is Also Gracious, Loving & Forgiving
Despite the fact that sin angers God – the Bible also teaches us that God is loving & gracious towards us and that Jesus Christ took upon Himself God’s wrath in our place when He was crucified on the cross for our sins.
Therefore Jesus Christ paid for our sins so that we would not have to experience the wrath of God because of the sin nature (John 3:16-17).
Our only choice is to simply genuinely believe and accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour and become children of God (John 1:12).
Grace is when God gives us what we don’t deserve. As mankind we all deserve hell because none is righteous and good before a holy and just God (Romans 3:23; Romans 6:23).
However through the love and grace of God, we have been given the free gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ. Our salvation is by grace and not of our own effort (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Therefore through Jesus Christ we can experience the eternal forgiveness of God when we become born again Christians through accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord & Saviour.
When we become born again, God is no longer angry with us because Christ took our punishment and fully paid for all our sins on the cross.

DO YOU WANT TO BE A CHRISTIAN or A FOLLOWER OF JESUS CHRIST???

1. ACKNOWLEDGE: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). “God be merciful to me a sinner” (Luke 18:13).
You must acknowledge that you are a sinner and that you therefore need Jesus in your life.

2. REPENT: “Unless you repent you will all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3), “Repent therefore and be converted that your sins may be blotted out” (Acts 3:19)
Repenting means: to change your mind; a sincere turning away, in heart, mind and action;
Therefore God wants you to repent of sinful values and of sinful living. God wants you to decide to
follow Him and to make Jesus the Lord of your life.

3. CONFESSION: “If we confess our sins. He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9)
God is a forgiving God. God will forgive any sin that you have done because Jesus died for ALL your sins and to set you free from the bondage of all types of sin in your life.

4. BELIEVE: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
You must believe that ONLY Jesus can save you and restore your relationship with God. You must believe that Jesus is the ONLY way by which you can have everlasting life and escape from eternal separation from God. You must believe that Jesus died on the cross for you and resurrected from the grave.
“He came to His own, and His own did not receive him, But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name” (John 1:11-12)
By faith, You must receive Jesus as Your Lord & Savior and therefore; you become a child of God; you become born again; you become a Christian; you restore your broken relationship with God

Why Not Make Your Eternal Decision NOW?

We become born again Christians by GRACE through FAITH or TOTAL TRUST in Jesus Christ as our Lord & Savior (Galatians 3:26) & (Ephesians 2:8,9). Salvation is a FREE gift received through FAITH in Christ.

PLEASE NOTE: You can choose to pray in your own words. This prayer is a sample prayer and it is only an EXPRESSION of your faith, belief & trust in Jesus. Salvation is by GRACE through FAITH or BELIEVING in Christ Jesus as your Lord & Saviour.

“Lord Jesus, I thank You for Your love. I thank You that You died on the cross for me and resurrected so that I may have life through You.
I confess Lord that I have sinned against You and today I ask You to forgive me of all of my sins, past present and future.
I repent of all of my sins and I ask You to cleanse me Jesus.
Thank You for forgiving my sins.
From this moment, come into my life Lord Jesus & take full control of my life. I want to follow You Jesus and I want to follow Your ways. Save me and from today, make me the person You want me to be.
I receive You Lord Jesus right now by faith. I trust You as my Lord and Savior – Amen”
