Ask God a Question

The burden which the prophet Habakkuk saw.

Do you know that it’s perfectly okay with God, to ask the Lord questions that you may have in your heart? God does not mind if you ask Him a question at all. He knows already that you do not know everything, and therefore He is willing to give you information that you NEED if it will help you to know Him better and to strengthen your relationship with Him.

Do you have questions about life in your heart? Are there things that just baffle, puzzle and burden you?
Perhaps you are burdened about issues in your own personal life. You have questions about where you are heading in your life; why you just can’t get that job; why you are fighting that illness; why the world’s systems are against you and your ability to progress.
Or perhaps you are burdened by the stories in the news on the television, and what you read in the papers; the senseless violence; the politics; and the way the evil and wicked seem to triumph – and you wonder if God is really interested in the day to day issues of people’s lives.

What I’ve discovered in my own life, is that often we can ask ourselves various baffling questions in our own heart, but never really DELIBERATELY direct these questions towards God or seek God’s answers to specific questions.

Habakkuk 1:2-4 NLT
How long, O Lord, must I call for help? But you do not listen! “Violence is everywhere!” I cry, but you do not come to save. Must I forever see these evil deeds? Why must I watch all this misery? Wherever I look, I see destruction and violence. I am surrounded by people who love to argue and fight. The law has become paralyzed, and there is no justice in the courts. The wicked far outnumber the righteous, so that justice has become perverted.

Should we question God? Should we ask God questions about issues that puzzle us? Habakkuk was a man who was not afraid to ask God questions. He wanted to seek God’s answers to the questions that you and I sometimes ask at some point in our lives. Habakkuk also had faith that God would answer his complex and difficult questions.
In fact most of chapter one of Habakkuk is dedicated to Habakkuk’s questions towards God. It’s important to note that Habakkuk’s was NOT complaining nor was he bitter towards God but he had a genuine burden and sought to genuinely know what God’s plans were in a seemingly uncontrolled environment.

Habakkuk 2:1 NLT
I will climb up to my watchtower and stand at my guard post. There I will wait to see what the Lord says and how he will answer my complaint.

After he asked God his questions, Habakkuk then WAITED and PREPARED himself to hear how the Lord was going to respond to his questions. He had FAITH that the God would answer him. And God DID answer Habakkuk.

In your own life, you might have questions for the Lord. ASK. Then “wait to see what the Lord says.”
