Our Father … Your Kingdom Come

Luke 11:2 NKJV
So He said to them, “When you pray, say: Our Father in heaven …Your kingdom come.”

The kingdom of God is defined as the spiritual domain over which God rules and in which God is sovereign.
Therefore when Jesus taught us to pray, He was saying that our prayers must have the motive and purpose of desiring the kingdom of God to be present and dominant in our lives, in every situation and in our environment.

Luke 17:20-21 NKJV
Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God does not come with observation; nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.”

In this particular portion of scripture, Jesus was not referring to the kingdom of God as being a specific place or venue, but He was saying that the kingdom of God must be is in us and it must be a part of us and our daily lives.
The Pharisees had the impression that the prophesied Messiah would be a political king and warrior who would give them a military deliverance from the rule of the Romans.
However, Jesus’ explanation to the Pharisees was that the kingdom of God was also about God having spiritual dominion and Lordship in our lives. That also means God’s presence and value systems must have dominion in us.
Therefore even when we pray, we should pray for God’s value systems and God’s Lordship to be dominant in the lives of our families, our country and in every situation so that God may be glorified.

Matthew 6:33-34 NKJV
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Jesus taught that seeking FIRST the kingdom of God and His righteousness is a priority over any material possession or physical desire that we may have. The kingdom of God is more important than the temporary things such as money, clothes, power and fame.

Therefore when we pray “…Your kingdom come…” we are praying and seeking for God to come and establish His reign and dominion.

TODAY. Seek and pray for the kingdom of God to come and reign.
