Luke 11:2-4 NKJV
So He said to them, “When you pray, say: … And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one.”
Jesus knows that life on earth is not easy. In your journey of life you will always encounter the enemy. This enemy is known by many names, that is, the devil; satan; the deceiver and many others.
Therefore when we pray Jesus always wants us to pray that God would deliver us and give us victory over the devil and the many problems that the devil will throw at us.
Please note – you can never fight the devil on your own strength and on your own intelligence and think that you can win. If you are going to have victory over the devil you are ALWAYS going to need to have God with you and you are always going to need the presence and power of God inside you.
Psalm 78:35 NKJV
Then they remembered that God was their rock, And the Most High God their Redeemer.
As we pray to God, Jesus taught through prayer that it is God ONLY who will lead us out of temptation. Jesus also taught that it is God ONLY who will deliver us from evil or the evil one.
We cannot deliver ourselves from the evil one on our own – we need Jesus to do that for us. We are saved by the grace of God and not by our own works (Ephesians 2:8,9). Therefore we cannot save or deliver ourselves. That is why He shed His blood for our sins. Jesus is our Redeemer and Saviour from all that is evil and from all things that work against God.
We cannot overcome all kinds of temptation on our own strength alone – we need Jesus to do that for us. The word of God says that we can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens us (Philippians 4:13).
If we had the audacity to believe that we can overcome the devil by our own strength, then there would be no need for us to pray to God. However, without God we do not have strength neither do we have the power to overcome the enemy.
Romans 8:37-39 NKJV
Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Therefore as we pray “lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one”, we must realize that God only can deliver us, and our ability to conqueror the evil one is though Christ Jesus our Lord.
As long as God is for us, in us and with us – the devil doesn’t have a chance.
TODAY. Let God deliver you from evil.
