Who is Jesus in Your Life?

Matthew 16:13-14 NKJV
When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

Jesus’ identity has always been a problem with many people even to this day and age. When Jesus was on earth, people did not really know Him nor did they know who He was. Even to this present day, there are people who have doubts regarding Jesus’ true identity. Some doubters and unbelievers will ask the following: Was He a prophet? Was He a teacher? Was He just a very intelligent man and philosopher? Did he really resurrect? Is He just a legend? Is He really the Son of God?
Therefore the world has its own perceptions of who Jesus.

In Caesarea Philippi, Jesus was interested in knowing from His disciples what the perception of other people was regarding His identity.
Your perception of God has a direct influence on how you relate to Him. Therefore if you perceive God in the wrong way, then your knowledge and appreciation of Him will be wrong. However if you have the right perception of Him, then your knowledge and relationship with Him will be good.

The Pharisees and other unbelievers failed to experience and appreciate who Jesus was because of their unbelief. This unbelief was caused by a wrong perception of who they thought Jesus was.

Matthew 13:54-58 NKJV
When He had come to His own country, He taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, “Where did this Man get this wisdom and these mighty works? Is this not the carpenter’s son? Is not His mother called Mary? And His brothers James, Joses, Simon, and Judas? And His sisters, are they not all with us? Where then did this Man get all these things?” So they were offended at Him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house.” Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

We find that Jesus did not do many miracles in His own country because of the unbelief of the people. The people who watched Jesus grow up as a young boy had the wrong perception of Jesus. They saw Jesus as “the carpenter’s son” and not as the Son of God. They thought that Jesus was merely a flawed human just like His brothers or siblings. They saw Jesus in the natural and not in the spiritual and such a wrong perception caused them not to honor Jesus for Who He really was.
As a result of their misconception of who Jesus’ identity, they then failed to experience the mighty works that Jesus could have done in their lives.

TODAY. Ask yourself: Do you have the right perception of who Jesus is? Who is Jesus in your life? Is He your Lord & Saviour?

DO YOU WANT TO BE A CHRISTIAN or A FOLLOWER OF JESUS CHRIST???

2. REPENT: “Unless you repent you will all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3), “Repent therefore and be converted that your sins may be blotted out” (Acts 3:19)

Therefore God wants you to repent of sinful values and of sinful living. God wants you to decide to
follow Him and to make Jesus the Lord of your life.

3. CONFESSION: “If we confess our sins. He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9)
God is a forgiving God. God will forgive any sin that you have done because Jesus died for ALL your sins and to set you free from the bondage of all types of sin in your life.

4. BELIEVE: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
You must believe that ONLY Jesus can save you and restore your relationship with God. You must believe that Jesus is the ONLY way by which you can have everlasting life and escape from eternal separation from God. You must believe that Jesus died on the cross for you and resurrected from the grave.
“He came to His own, and His own did not receive him, But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name” (John 1:11-12)
By faith, You must receive Jesus as Your Lord & Savior and therefore; you become a child of God; you become born again; you become a Christian; you restore your broken relationship with God

Jesus, the True Vine

John 15:5 NKJV
I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

When God created us, He created us for a purpose. Therefore whatever we do must have meaning and purpose. Our life must have direction.
However, if we are to be fruitful and have purpose in our lives, we must abide in Jesus and He must be at the throne of our life. Jesus clearly states that without Him we can do nothing. Therefore if we are to do anything meaningful in God’s eyes, then we cannot do it without Jesus being a part of it.

John 15:1-4 NKJV
I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.

Abiding in Jesus, the True Vine means the following:

  • A vine has branches on which grapes for example can grow. For the branches to have purpose, they must be abide in the vine so that they can be fruitful. Otherwise if they do not perform their life purpose of bearing fruit, then they are removed from the vine. (John 15:6 – If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.)
  • Therefore Jesus is the True Vine and people are the branches. Jesus teaches that our relationship with Him must be such that we look towards Him as the ultimate source and sustainer of all that we need. As long as we abide in Him and He in us, we can be fruitful in every area of our life. (John 15:4 – Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.)
  • Our true identity can be found in Jesus because we are attached to Him as the vine. When we abide in Jesus, we know who we are and we are not ashamed of our identity in Christ. Through Christ we are able to overcome low self-esteem issues or any opposition to our true identity in Christ. We are disciples of Jesus (John 15:8 – By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.)
  • When we abide in Jesus, then the Father is able to prune us so that we continue to bear MORE fruit and so that we continue to grow and be productive for the kingdom. The more we draw closer to God, the more God will draw close to us. (John 15:2 – …and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.)
  • When we bear fruit because of our obedience to abiding in Jesus, we then automatically glorify God in our actions (John 15:8 – By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples)

TODAY. Abide in the True Vine – Jesus.

Jesus, The Good Shepherd

John 10:11 NKJV
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.”

Our relationship with Jesus is such that He is the Good Shepherd and we as Christians are the sheep.
Without Jesus, we lack direction and protection in our lives. Whether as an individual, a family, or a church, we all need a Shepherd to lead and guide us so that we walk the right path and so that we are protected from the wolves in society.

Therefore Jesus called Himself the Good Shepherd because of the following reasons

  1. A good shepherd will risk his life against all opposition for his sheep. As a Shepherd, Jesus is dedicated to His sheep to the point that He gave His life. (John 10:11 – “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.”)
  2. Unlike a hireling, a good shepherd cares for His sheep. He is one who protects, guides and watches over the sheep. Likewise Jesus protects, guides and watches over us. (John 10:12-13 – But a hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them. The hireling flees because he is a hireling and does not care about the sheep.)
  3. A good shepherd knows and recognizes his own sheep. Jesus as the Good Shepherd intimately knows His own sheep. He is able to tell the difference between the real sheep and the impostors or hypocrites. (John 10:14 – I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep…)
  4. A good shepherd is recognized by his own sheep. When the shepherd speaks, his sheep will recognize his voice and they will not follow another voice except for their shepherd. In the same way, when Jesus the Good Shepherd speaks, His voice is recognized by His people. Many wolves in sheep’s clothing will try to imitate the Good Shepherd, but they will fail to sway His sheep because His sheep intimately know and follow the voice of the Lord. (John 10:27 – My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.)
  5. A good shepherd searches for the lost sheep. Whenever his sheep stray away from the flock, a good shepherd will look for that sheep until he finds it – even if it is only one sheep that is lost. Jesus as the Good Shepherd is able to find us whenever we stray. (Luke 15:4-5 – “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.)

John 10:16 NKJV
And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.

All Christians around the world, whether black, white, tall, short, or no matter what background have One Good Shepherd and His name is Jesus.

TODAY. Learn the qualities of the Good Shepherd.

Are you part of the sheepfold of Jesus Christ? Would you desire to be shepherded by Jesus?
