What are the Essentials of the Christian Faith?

The essentials of the Christian faith basically refers to the core foundational beliefs of Christianity. Even when intending to join a church it is important for every Christian to know the essential beliefs of that particular church and compare if those beliefs are similar to orthodox Christianity.
The essentials of the Christian faith are key Biblical doctrines which are important for every Christian believer to understand and believe. By understanding the essentials of the Christian faith, the genuine Christian is able to guard himself from various heretical doctrines and deceptive religious groups.

The essentials of the Christian faith refer to the following:
1. The deity of Christ
2. Man is sinful and in need of salvation
3. Salvation is by God’s grace through faith and not by works
4. Salvation is through Jesus Christ alone
5. The Resurrection of Jesus Christ
6. God is one and exists in 3 Persons; The Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit
7. The Authority of the Scriptures as the word of God

1. The Deity of Jesus Christ
It is essential for Christians to believe in the divinity of Jesus Christ. Throughout the Bible there are many verses about Jesus that refer to Him as being God and having God’s full attributes. Here are some of the Bible verses that prove the deity of Christ:

Jesus & The Father are ONE
John 10:30-33 (NKJV)“I and My Father are one.” Then the Jews took up stones again to stone Him. Jesus answered them, “Many good works I have shown you from My Father. For which of those works do you stone Me?” The Jews answered Him, saying, “For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God.”
We can learn from John 10:30-33 that Jesus indeed claimed to be God. When Jesus said that He and the Father are one, He was saying that He and the Father are of one nature and have the same attributes. The Jews clearly understood what He meant when Jesus said that He is one with the Father. This is why they responded in an attempt to stone Him and accusing Him of blasphemy they said “… You, being a Man, make Yourself God”. The Jews knew that Jesus was saying that He is God.

Jesus is I AM
John 8:58 (NKJV) – Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”
When Jesus said these statements in John 8:58, the Jews responded again by attempting to stone Him. Again, the Jews knew exactly what Jesus was saying; Jesus was saying that He was God. Jesus was equating His declaration of being I AM with what God told Moses in Exodus 3:14 and the Jews understood His statement but they refused to accept it. Therefore Jesus was not only saying that He existed before Abraham but He was saying that He has always and eternally existed just as God is self-existing and eternal.

Jesus is God Who Became Flesh
John 1:1-2, 14 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God… And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 1:1-2 & 14 also explains the deity of Jesus. It proves that Jesus Christ is the Word who was not only with God but that He was God who became flesh and dwelt among us.
1 Timothy 3:16 also says the following: And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, Justified in the Spirit, Seen by angels, Preached among the Gentiles, Believed on in the world, Received up in glory.
1 Timothy 3:16 proves again by saying that “God was manifested in the flesh” meaning that Jesus Christ is God who came in human form.

Jesus is Worshipped as God
John 20:28 And Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!”
Jesus did not refuse worship and He did not rebuke anyone for worshipping Him. Jesus accepted worship while at the same time teaching people to only worship God. Here are some Bible verses where Jesus was worshiped:
Matthew 14:33; Luke 24:52; John 9:35-38; Matthew 28:9,17; Matthew 2:11

2. The Gospel – Man is Sinful and in Need of Salvation
All of mankind is sinful and has sinned against God. We are not inherently good. Instead since the sin of Adam all men are born with sin (Romans 3:10, 23).
It’s essential that every Christian believer understand that God is just and holy. He does not tolerate sin and that the punishment for sin is hell. God cannot allow sin to go unpunished (Romans 6:23).
However, God through His love, mercy and grace has made a provision for mankind to be saved from eternal punishment through His son Jesus Christ who became our substitute by paying for our sins on the Cross (John 3:16). Essentially, Jesus was punished for our sins on the Cross (1 Peter 2:12).
Therefore the genuine Christian must believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ which is the power of God for salvation (Romans 1:16).

3. Salvation is by the Grace of God Through Faith and Not by Works
Every genuine Christian must believe that salvation is by grace through faith in Christ (Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5-7).
Every genuine Christian must understand that our works or personal effort cannot save us. Only our saving faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour can save us (John 1:12; Romans 10:9-11).

4. Salvation is Through Jesus Christ Alone
The genuine Christian must believe that salvation is through Jesus Christ alone. Jesus is the way the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father except through Christ (John 14:6).
There is no other religion, god or person by which anyone can be saved except through believing in Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12).
In Matthew 7:13-14 Jesus said: Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
Jesus is the only path to salvation. Without Christ there is no salvation. This doctrine is essential to everyone who hears the gospel and seeks a genuine relationship with God.

5. The Resurrection of Jesus Christ
Romans 10:9That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
From Romans 10:9 we can observe that believing that God raised Jesus from the dead is essential for the genuine Christian.
In addition to Christ’s crucifixion on the Cross, the resurrection of Christ is significant because it proves that all that Jesus spoke and all that Jesus did was true. It proves Christ’s authority over death and since the Christian believer is in Christ, then the believer will also be resurrected into eternal life.
John 11:25 – Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.”
2 Corinthians 4:14knowing that He who raised up the Lord Jesus will also raise us up with Jesus, and will present us with you
The leaders or founders of every other religion do not have the same testimony of Christianity. All other religions have their leaders who are dead, buried and unable to save their followers.
However, Jesus Christ was crucified for the sins of the world and resurrected on the third day. He was also physically seen by many credible witnesses after His crucifixion as evidence that He resurrected.

6. God is One and exists in 3 Persons; The Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit
Christians are monotheistic. This means that the genuine Christian believes in one God.
The Bible reveals that there is one God who is revealed in 3 Persons. This speaks of the Godhead or the Trinity. Although the word “Trinity” is not mentioned in the Bible, there are various scriptures that refer to The Father as being God, The Son as being God and the Holy Spirit as being God. However, this does not mean that there are 3 Gods.
When we speak of the Trinity, we should not think of it as 1+1+1=3. But the correct way to view the Trinity is as 1x1x1=1. This means one God existing in 3 Persons.
In Matthew 3:16-17, the moment when Jesus was baptized is the distinct time when we see the appearance or manifestation of the Trinity together at the same time.
Matthew 3:16-17When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
So we see from Matthew 3:16-17 that Jesus the Son was there, the Holy Spirit appeared and the voice of The Father was heard.
Therefore all 3 Persons in the Trinity are distinct but equal. All 3 Person in the Trinity share similar attributes but yet they are one God.
It’s important to note that with our finite minds and limited understanding, it can be difficult to fully comprehend or even illustrate the Trinity or the nature of God.
However, we must believe what the Bible says and what the Bible teaches in relation to the Godhead.
Genesis 1:26 (ESV)Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness…” [emphasis added]
The Hebrew word for “God” such as the one used in Genesis 1:26 is [Elohim]. Elohim is a noun which refers to God in the plural. The word Elohim appears in the Bible more than 2000 times. Therefore Elohim allows for the Trinity.
In Genesis 1:26 God is speaking of Himself in the plural form denoting that God is consists of more than one Person.
Genesis 1:1 (ESV)In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
Deuteronomy 6:4 (ESV)Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one!
Again Genesis 1:1 and Deuteronomy 6:4 refers to God as Elohim. Therefore the scripture is denoting God as consisting of more than one Person. Deuteronomy 6:4 refers to God as Elohim and that Elohim is united or is one.
There are many scriptures that reflect the triune nature of God. For example, Jesus was in the beginning with God according to John 1:1 and not only was Jesus with God but He was God. All creation was made through Jesus (Colossians 1:16-17). The Holy Spirit is also listed with the Father and Son as “the name” believers are to be baptized into according to Matthew 28:19-20 and Peter referred to the Holy Spirit as God in Acts 5:3-4. The teaching of a Triune God is unique to Christianity and affirms the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as one God in three Persons.

7. The Authority of the Scriptures as the Word of God
The genuine Christian must believe in the Bible as being the God inspired written Scriptures. Christians believe in the Bible pertaining to the total 66 books with 39 books in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (ESV) “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.”
The Bible is where Christianity’s beliefs are found.
The Bible’s instructions and teachings are still relevant in our individual life and also on issues concerning the world today.
The only way that we can understand God’s mind on many issues in life, is through His word. Therefore every Christian must believe in the inerrant and infallible authority of God’s word.

DO YOU WANT TO BE A CHRISTIAN or A FOLLOWER OF JESUS CHRIST???

1. ACKNOWLEDGE: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
This means that we have all broken God’s laws and God’s 10 Commandments like those mentioned in Exodus 20:1-17. For example, if you have told a lie; if you have stolen something; if you have lusted after somebody or if you have coveted. This means you are guilty of breaking at least one or more of God’s 10 Commandments. Breaking God’s commandments makes us sinners. The fact that we are sinners who have broken God’s law means that we are accountable to God who is the Lawgiver. Romans 6:23 says that “the wages of sin is death BUT the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”
You must acknowledge that you are a sinner who has broken God’s commandments and that you therefore need Jesus in your life.

2. REPENT: “Unless you repent you will all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3), “Repent therefore and be converted that your sins may be blotted out” (Acts 3:19)
Repenting means: to change your mind; a sincere turning away, in heart, mind and action;
Therefore God wants you to repent of sinful values and of sinful living. God wants you to decide to
follow Him and to make Jesus the Lord of your life.

3. CONFESSION: “If we confess our sins. He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9)
God is a forgiving God. God will forgive any sin that you have done because Jesus died for ALL your sins and to set you free from the bondage of all types of sin in your life.

4. BELIEVE: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
You must believe that ONLY Jesus can save you and restore your relationship with God. You must believe that Jesus is the ONLY way by which you can have everlasting life and escape from eternal separation from God. You must believe that Jesus died on the cross for you and resurrected from the grave.
“He came to His own, and His own did not receive him, But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name” (John 1:11-12)
By faith, You must receive Jesus as Your Lord & Savior and therefore; you become a child of God; you become born again; you become a Christian; you restore your broken relationship with God

Why Not Make Your Eternal Decision NOW?

We become born again Christians by GRACE through FAITH or TOTAL TRUST in Jesus Christ as our Lord & Savior (Galatians 3:26) & (Ephesians 2:8,9). Salvation is a FREE gift received through FAITH in Christ.

PLEASE NOTE: You can choose to pray in your own words. This prayer is a sample prayer and it is only an EXPRESSION of your faith, belief & trust in Jesus. Salvation is by GRACE through FAITH or BELIEVING in Christ Jesus as your Lord & Saviour.

“Lord Jesus, I thank You for Your love. I thank You that You died on the cross for me and resurrected so that I may have life through You.
I confess Lord that I have sinned against You and today I ask You to forgive me of all of my sins, past present and future.
Today I repent and have decided to follow you. Thank you for forgiving all my sins.

How Do I Get Right With God?

There are times in our life when we realize that our life is just a mess. There are times when we feel the weight of guilt and condemnation because of sin in our lives. Then there are times in life when we know that our guilt, our sin and all that we do in life has separated us from a just and holy God. In our hearts, we know that the issues in our life are just too big and too much to solve on our own, and so the only way to get peace is to come to the Lord Himself and to get right with Him.
The Bible says that we are all sinners and that none is righteous before God (Romans 3:10).
Romans 3:23 says: For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
Therefore, the real truth is that every human being needs to get right with God. Every human being needs to be reconciled with God because the sin of mankind separates us spiritually from a holy God (Isaiah 59:2).

GOD WANTS YOU TO GET RIGHT WITH HIM
So, how do we get right with God? First we must understand the character and nature of God. The Lord is patient and forgiving. He always desires to reconcile with us especially when the presence of sin in our lives has separated us from Him. Therefore God passionately desires for you to get right with Him. He is always ready to help us, guide us and save us from the power of sin, guilt and condemnation. Just like the story of the prodigal son, God is our Father who is waiting for those who are spiritually lost, confused and guilty to be reconciled back to Him (Luke 15:11-32). All we need to do is to boldly come to God’s throne of grace so that we may receive His mercy and grace (Hebrews 4:16).
1 John 1:9 says: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
2 Peter 3:9 says: The Lord is not slow to fulfill His promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.

Therefore no matter how big or how many times we have sinned, God is ready to forgive us of all our sins so that He may be reconciled to us.

RECONCILIATION & FORGIVENESS OF SINS IS THROUGH JESUS CHRIST ALONE
Secondly, for us to get right with God, we must understand that forgiveness of sins and reconciliation to God was made possible through Jesus Christ alone.
In John 14:6, Jesus says: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
1 Timothy 2:5-6 says: There is one God, and there is one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave Himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.

Jesus paid the penalty for our sins on the cross. Jesus became our Substitute on the cross and paid for our sins on our behalf. On our own, we cannot pay God for our sins because we are incapable of doing so – even by our good works or our own righteousness. Isaiah 64:6 reminds us that our personal works of righteousness are like filthy rags to God.
Therefore our forgiveness and reconciliation with God are not based on our personal good works, but they are based on the works that Jesus Christ did through His life, death and resurrection.
The blood that Jesus Christ shed on the cross was the eternal payment for our sins and made it possible for us to be forgiven and reconciled with God.

Romans 5:8-11 says: But God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Since, therefore, we have now been justified by His blood, much more shall we be saved by Him from the wrath of God. 10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by His life. 11 More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

GET RIGHT WITH GOD BY BECOMING A BORN AGAIN CHRISTIAN
Finally, 2 Corinthians 5:17 says: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
Becoming a born again Christian means that Christ lives in you and Jesus Christ becomes your spiritual covering. Christ gives you a new nature – His nature – and your old self is removed.
Through Christ and because of Christ, God sees in you the righteousness of Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:21 says: For our sake He made Him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.
Therefore our reconciliation to God as born again Christians is because of Jesus Christ alone through His finished work on the cross. 2 Corinthians 5:18-21 says: All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to Himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making His appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

Becoming a born again Christian means that Christ has saved you from the power of sin and you now have redemption and forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:13-14 says: He (Christ) has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
Ephesians 1:7 says: In Him (Christ) we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace,

Becoming a born again Christian also means that we officially become children of God and therefore become part of the spiritual family of God. John 1:12-13 says: But to all who did receive Him (Christ), who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

We become born again Christians by simply placing our faith or total trust in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour because of the sacrifice that He made on the cross for our sins.
We must realize and believe that Jesus Christ is essential for us to get right with God. Christ alone can save us from our sins, from condemnation and from the flames of hell (Romans 8:1).
Our salvation is by grace through faith alone in Jesus Christ and not of our own personal works (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Do You Wish To Get Right With God & Be Reconciled With Him?
Why Not Make Your Eternal Decision NOW?

We become born again Christians by GRACE through FAITH or TOTAL TRUST in Jesus Christ as our Lord & Savior (Galatians 3:26) & (Ephesians 2:8,9). Salvation is a FREE gift received through FAITH in Christ.

Why Are We Born Sinners?

The Bible tells us that every person is born a sinner. Even if you are not a Christian it is easy to realize that mankind has a sinful nature at his core. Even a child does not need to be taught how to lie or steal or express a selfish attitude. Instead we are naturally born with sinful characteristics.
Romans 3:23 says “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”.
Romans 3:10 also says “None is righteous, no, not one”.

We are all imperfect and are capable of bad or wicked behavior.
For example, as mankind we are capable of stealing, hatred, sexual immorality, idolatry, anger, impure thoughts and so much more.
Some of the acts of our sinful nature are outlined in Galatians 5:19-21 where it says: The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

So the question is: Why are we imperfect? Why do we struggle with sin? Why are we born sinners?

Our Sin Nature Is Inherited From Adam
The reason why we are born sinners is because of the sin of the first man – Adam in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:1-24).
All of mankind are sinners because our sin nature is inherited from Adam who together with Eve, disobeyed God by eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
Romans 5:12 says: Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned—

Psalms 51:5 says: Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.

So it is clear from the above scriptures that as mankind we are born sinners because we inherited our sin nature directly from Adam.
Our sin nature spiritually separates us from a holy and just God. Therefore our sin nature prevents us from reconciling with God because God cannot tolerate sin.

Isaiah 59:1-2 says the following: Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear; 2 but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.

The imperfections we have in our individual life and in the entire world are a result of humans being born sinners. The imperfect state our world began with the sin of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.

What Is The Remedy For Our Sin Nature?
To understand the remedy for our sin nature we must also understand the consequences of sin.
The existence of sin brought both physical death and spiritual death into the world.
So the reason we die physically is because of the existence of sin in the world. There is also spiritual death where one is spiritually separated and unreconciled with God.
Romans 6:23 says: For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Therefore according to Romans 6:23, sin brought death, but the remedy for sin is Jesus Christ.

It is important to note that ONLY Jesus Christ was conceived without sin. Only Jesus Christ being both God and Man was qualified to pay for our sins and redeem us from eternal punishment in Hell.
Therefore only Jesus Christ can reconcile us to God (John 14:6) and He alone is the remedy for our sins.

Through Jesus Christ we have redemption and eternal forgiveness of our sins.
The reason why hell exists is because sin exists. Hell is an expression of God’s eternal anger towards sin and those who choose to reject God and the work of Christ on the cross.
The work of Christ by dying for the sins of mankind on the cross was an expression of God’s love for man and God’s desire to forgive and redeem mankind from their sins (John 3:16; Romans 5:8).
God therefore offers forgiveness of sins through Jesus Christ who paid for our sins on the cross.
Colossians 1:14 says that in Christ Jesus “we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”
Ephesians 1:7 says that in Jesus Christ “we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace,”

Through Jesus Christ our sins are removed and we are reconciled to God
Colossians 1:19-20 says: For in Him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, 20 and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of His cross.
When we believe and receive Jesus Christ as our Lord & Saviour, though we once did evil deeds, through Christ we are seen as blameless and we are reconciled to God because of the work of Christ by dying for our sins on the cross.
Colossians 1:21-22 says: And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, 22 He has now reconciled in His body of flesh by His death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before Him,

Through Jesus Christ we no longer have a sin nature but we are sealed with the Holy Spirit
Ephesians 1:13-14 says: In Him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in Him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.
The Holy Spirit guarantees that we are indeed saved and that we belong to Christ. When we were physically born we were conceived with sin / born sinners. This is why we need to be “born again” of the Spirit (John 3:3, John 3:5-8).
We cannot be reconciled with God unless we are born again which is to believe and receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour (John 1:12, John 3:16).

ARE YOU RECONCILED TO GOD THROUGH JESUS CHRIST?

The Bible tells us that just a the sin of one man (Adam) brought death and the inheritance of sin in all of mankind, then it is also through the righteousness of one Man (Jesus Christ) that all of mankind can be saved from their sins and receive eternal life.
Romans 5:17 says: If, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one Man Jesus Christ.

Therefore it is only through Jesus Christ that we can be saved and be eternally reconciled to God. Forgiveness of all our sins is found in Jesus Christ who lived a perfect and righteous life. It is because of His righteousness and His death on the cross for our sins that we can overcome our sin nature and become a new creation.

Romans 5:18-19 says: Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men. 19 For as by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one Man’s obedience the many will be made righteous.

Therefore when we receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour we are declared righteous because of the work and righteousness of Christ and not because of our own effort or works.

2 Corinthians 5:17-21
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 18 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Repenting means: to change your mind; a sincere turning away, in heart, mind and action;

Should Christians Evangelize Atheists?

Atheism is the belief that God or gods do not exist. An atheist is therefore one who does not believe that the universe and all of creation are the result of intelligent design or a supernatural Being.
Many atheists will also provide arguments and theories such as evolution or the Big Bang as evidence to the world that God or gods cannot possibly exist.

For many years, atheism has been growing in almost every continent around the world. China is known to have the most atheists in the world, then Europe, the Americas and finally Africa. The growth in the atheist demographic has been due to the influence of evolution education and various scientific researches which are ironically conducted by other atheists. The theory of evolution is taught at a young age and many evolutionist theories are propagated as truth and fact despite their inconsistencies and irrationalities. Ultimately, the more evolution is embraced, the more religion becomes unpopular.

The Bible tells us that creation itself, such as the stars, the planets, the animals, the plants and all forms of life is evidence that a Creator exists. The existence of life as well as the nature and order of the universe testify to the existence of an intelligent Designer.
Romans 1:20 says: “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities — His eternal power and divine nature — have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.”

However atheists will not submit to the rational belief that the universe did not create itself from nothing. Many atheists will not admit the fact that intelligent design exists.
Instead, atheists will seek to educate and defend atheism and every scientific theory or research that supports their belief and argument that God does not exist.

Therefore atheism is an anti-God concept. It is a concept which the devil has created to deceive people, but it is also a concept that even the devil himself does not believe.

Psalms 14:1 says “The fool says in his heart ‘There is no God’…”
Therefore whilst atheism is a foolish concept, because it believes that creation does not have a creator – atheism is still a dangerous concept because of its arguments, its deception and its continued growth.

Should Christians Evangelize Atheists?
Atheism is one of the most extreme expressions of man’s rebellion against God. It also expresses man’s desire to totally live without God.
Atheism exists because of a fallen world. Man is sinful by nature. Man is not born good but instead he is born a sinner (Romans 3:10,23).
As sinners we have an inbuilt nature to rebel against God and to contradict the things of God. The theories of evolution and the Big Bang contradict the Biblical account of creation and provide the deceptive argument that life and the universe existed from nothing, instead of God.

God desires that Christians unashamedly evangelize anyone who is spiritually lost and has not believed in the gospel (Romans 1:16).
Christians are required to evangelize the atheist just as much as they should evangelize to a witchdoctor, a Buddhist, a prostitute, a cultist, a Greek, a Jew, or any person who has not accepted Jesus Christ as Lord & Saviour.
Mark 16:15 says we are to “proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.”
Therefore there is no created human being who should be excluded from hearing the gospel of Jesus Christ or excluded from understanding the divine character and nature of God. If we are all sinners, then all are in need of the gospel and therefore all need a saving relationship with God.
Jesus Christ was crucified for the entire world, including atheists, so that whoever believes in Christ will not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16).
God is patient toward everyone, including the atheist and He does not want anyone to perish (2 Peter 3:9).

Ultimately as every Christian shares the gospel with people, whether they are atheist or not, it is the duty alone of the Holy Spirit to bring conviction of sin and to convert the sinner as the gospel / word of God is shared (John 16:8, Romans 1:16).

Whilst most atheists are prone to argue, debate or ferociously defend his/her atheism, this should not deter Christians from sharing the word of God to people who oppose the scriptures. If anyone is willfully living in rebellion to God (whether atheist or not), then that person must graciously and lovingly be given the gospel of Christ and make an informed spiritual choice whether to accept God or not.
Jesus Himself constantly encountered people who opposed God’s word but yet He continued to focus on sharing and defending God’s word to anyone who would be willing to listen.
According to the Scriptures, Christians should be able to defend and contend for the Christian faith (Jude 1:3; 1 Peter 3:15).
It is therefore important for every Christian to seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit when engaging with atheists or anyone who has beliefs which are contrary to Christianity.
Many testimonies exist from former atheists of how they eventually converted to Christianity through the faithfulness and obedience of those Christians who unashamedly share the gospel of Jesus Christ.

What is the Real Meaning of Christmas?

The real meaning of Christmas is about 3 issues – love, purpose and salvation.
Beyond the Christmas gifts and all the commercialization that comes with the Christmas holidays, there is the life changing story of God’s love for the world such that He became flesh in order to save the world from sin and condemnation.
The Christmas story is more than just the birth of Jesus Christ. The Christmas story is about God’s love, God’s purpose and God’s salvation for mankind.

Christmas is About the Love of God
John 3:16For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.
God was motivated by His love for mankind to give His begotten Son to be crucified as payment for our sins. The truth is: we are all sinners before a just and holy God.
Romans 3:23 says “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”.
Romans 6:23 says the consequences or “the wages of sin is death” which is spiritual separation from God.
As mankind, we cannot pay for our own sins by our own merit or effort. Isaiah 64:6 says “All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.”
However, even though we are sinners, the Bible says that God still loves us and that He loves us enough to save us from the consequences of sin.
Romans 5:8 says “But God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
So we celebrate Christmas because during the Christmas season, we are reminded of the unconditional love of God and the motivation for why God sent Jesus to come into this world.

Christmas is About the Purpose of Jesus Christ
John 3:17For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him.
Christmas reminds us that Christ was born with a specific purpose. John 1:14 says that the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.
The purpose of God sending Jesus into the world was not to condemn the world, but that mankind might be saved through Christ.
The Christmas season is a reminder that Jesus Christ came to fulfill God’s plan of salvation.
Matthew 1:20-21But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will bear a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”
Therefore according to Matthew 1:21, Jesus the purpose of the birth of Jesus was that He may save His people from their sins.
So Christmas reminds us that the world needs a Saviour and this Saviour is Jesus Christ.

Christmas is About Jesus Being the Only Way to Salvation
John 14:6Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
Christmas reminds us of the uniqueness of Jesus Christ and what He did for the world. Jesus was without sin; He is God / the Word who became flesh (1 Timothy 3:17) and it is only because of the blood of Jesus Christ which He shed on the cross that mankind can be saved.
Ephesians 1:7 says “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace”
Christmas should remind us that only Christ’s blood and sacrifice was sufficient to pay for our sins. Therefore our salvation is not through anyone else or through anything else except through the Person of Jesus Christ alone (Acts 4:12).
It is only through Jesus Christ that we can be reconciled to God and it is only through Christ alone that we can enter Heaven. Christ alone is our mediator (1 Timothy 2:5).

    Repenting means: to change your mind; a sincere turning away, in heart, mind and action;

What is Universalism / Universal Salvation?

Universalism or universal salvation is the belief that all mankind will eventually be saved. It is the belief that every human soul will ultimately go to Heaven irrespective of his/her beliefs or religion.
Universalists argue that a loving and merciful God will never condemn people to eternal punishment in hell. Therefore they believe that God is able to use all faiths and all religions to eventually reconcile every individual to Himself and to Heaven because God is so loving and so merciful that He cannot bear to punish His own creation for eternity.

Universalism is unbiblical and should be rejected as it creates a false concept of the nature of God and it is a direct attack on the gospel of Jesus Christ.

1. Universalism Creates A False Concept of Sin and its Consequences
Universalism minimizes the effects of sin on mankind and the eternal consequences of sin. If all people will eventually end up in Heaven then it means that people are no longer accountable to God for their sins.
Universalism indirectly promotes the philosophy that God will not hold any person accountable for his/her sinful actions. If Universalism is true then one can presume that wicked and unrepentant people such as Hitler or Stalin are in now in Heaven.
The Bible however clearly tells us that sin has consequences. Romans 6:23 says that “the wages of sin is death”. This death that is mentioned in this scripture speaks of eternal separation from God. Therefore it is saying that the consequence of sin is eternal punishment.
1 Corinthians 6:9-10 also tells us that the consequence of sinful living is that a person will not inherit the kingdom of God.
It’s therefore clear from these scriptures and many others that God takes sin seriously and that sinful living has serious and eternal consequences.

2. Universalism Creates A False Concept of the Purpose of the Cross
Jesus Christ died on the cross because of the existence of sin in the world. Our sins brought Christ to the cross so that He would be crucified for our sake.
If the doctrine of Universalism were true, then it would mean that Jesus Christ would not have to come and be crucified on the cross for the sins of mankind. It presumes that Christ’s finished work on the cross is not relevant.
Universalism therefore attacks the gospel and the purpose of why Christ came to die for our sins.
Isaiah 53:5 says “But He was wounded for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities; upon Him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed.”
God demands justice because of sin. Mankind is unable to pay for his own sins, therefore Jesus Christ paid for our sins on the cross (Matthew 20:28).
Ephesians 1:7 says that “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace”.

3. Universalism Creates A False Concept of the True Nature of God
Indeed God is merciful; God is loving and God is gracious. However God is also just and holy.
This means that God demands justice for sin. God also holy such that He cannot ever tolerate sin or turn a blind eye towards sin.
Universalists fall into the deception of believing that God’s love and grace tolerates sin and that ultimately God’s love will override the consequence of sin.
However John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world, that He gave his only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”
It was God’s love for the world that also sent Jesus to the cross. However, it is only when we believe and accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour that we will have eternal life. According to John 3:16, the consequence of not believing in Jesus Christ is that we will perish.
John 3:18 says “Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because He has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.”
Therefore according to John 3:18, anyone who does not believe in Jesus Christ is currently under condemnation until such a time when that person believes in Jesus Christ, then he/she is no longer condemned (Romans 8:1).
Therefore whilst God is loving, He still demands justice. Jesus Christ paid for our sins; He was crucified in our place; He paid the debt for sin we could not pay. So when we receive Christ as Lord and Saviour we avoid eternal punishment and we are reconciled to a right relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
However, when a person does not accept the finished work of Christ on the cross, then that person will experience the full justice, wrath and condemnation of God because he/she has rejected Jesus Christ (Romans 1:18; Colossians 3:5-6).

4. Universalism Rejects Jesus Christ As The Only Way to Heaven
Universalism ultimately rejects Jesus Christ as being the only means by whom we can eternally reconcile with God. Therefore Universalists will reject Jesus Christ as being God’s only mediator between God and man (1 Timothy 2:5).
In John 14:6 Jesus said “I am the way, and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
Acts 4:12 says that salvation is found in no one else under heaven except by Jesus Christ.
However, universalism promotes the belief that there are many paths which lead to God and to heaven. Universalism promotes the belief that a person can reconcile with God by his/her own merit and not through Christ alone.
Ephesians 2:8-9 says we are saved by grace through faith in Christ and not by our own works or merit.

Conclusion
Universalism is therefore an unbiblical belief. Universalists are generally more likely to believe or promote the idea that all religions can “coexist” or that all religions can unite as one.
However, the scriptures are clear that Jesus Christ alone is the only way by which mankind can be saved.
The Bible is very clear that hell exists and that tragically there are many people who will face eternal punishment (Revelation 21:8; Revelation 20:15; Matthew 25:46).
In Matthew 7:13 Jesus says: “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.”
Jesus Christ is the narrow gate. He alone is the only way to reconcile with God and He alone is the Lord and Saviour for all of mankind.

Repenting means: to change your mind; a sincere turning away, in heart, mind and action;

I’m A New Christian, Now What?

1 John 5:13 says, “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.”

So as a new Christian, what’s next? The moment you became a born again Christian through faith in Jesus Christ, is the moment that your eternal life began.
Always remember that your salvation in Christ is not of your own works or your own effort. Salvation is a free gift received by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone (Ephesians 2:8-9). Therefore Jesus Christ alone takes the credit for your salvation.
It is now important for you to understand what has spiritually happened to you as a result of putting your trust and faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour.

The Christian life will not always be perfect. You will still make mistakes; you will still face life’s challenges. However God has already started the process of sanctifying you where God enables you begin to gradually conform to the image of His Son, Jesus Christ (Romans 8:29).
However the major difference is that you will face life with Jesus Christ by your side. You will encounter the issues of life with God guiding you and directing you. You are no longer alone. God will never leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6).
You now have a Saviour and a friend in Jesus Christ. Your life is no longer your own – you now belong to Christ.

God wants us to understand salvation and our identity in Christ. God wants us to have the confidence of knowing for sure that we are saved. You must therefore understand what happened in you spiritually at the moment of your salvation and what you can do next.

A) WHAT HAPPENED AT THE MOMENT OF YOUR SALVATION
The moment you receive Jesus by FAITH, the following happens:

1. The Holy Spirit now lives inside of you (1 Corinthians 6:19,20)
2. You are now a child of God and are part of the spiritual family of God (John 1:12)
3. You are a new creation in Christ. This means that you are a new person in Christ. You now have a new nature in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17)
4. ALL Your sins are forgiven. Therefore you are no longer condemned to eternal punishment, but instead you shall have eternal life through Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:7)
5. You now live your life by FAITH & BELIEF in God (2 Corinthians 5:7)
6. The Bible is your infallible & God inspired manual for life (2 Timothy 3:16,17)
7. In Christ Jesus, the Lord will enable you to fulfill and experience His plan and purpose for your life. (Romans 8:28)
8. You have eternal life through Christ & God will never leave you or forsake you (John 3:16)
9. Your salvation is secure in Christ Jesus (John 10:28,29)

B) WHAT’S NEXT AFTER ACCEPTING JESUS CHRIST
1. Read and meditate on the word of God daily (Psalms 1:1-3)
The Bible is ultimately our final authority in our Christian walk. The Bible is the God-inspired word of God which corrects, reproves, instructs and equips us in our life and for the work of God (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
Therefore our reading and meditation of the Bible enables us to understand the mind of God for every situation in life.

2. Pray to God daily (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
Prayer is communication with God. As a Christian you have the privilege of directly communicating with the Creator of the Universe. You can talk to God about every issue in your life. You can thank Him for all that He does in your life. You can talk to God any time of the day.
Prayer draws us near to God.

3. Get water baptized as an outward sign that you now trust in Christ for salvation (Romans 6:3-4)
Water baptism is an outward sign to the world that you have given your life to Jesus Christ.
We are not saved through water baptism but we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Therefore water baptism is done after you become a Christian to symbolize Christ’s death and resurrection and that we as Christians will also be resurrected in Christ.

4. Share the gospel of Jesus Christ with other people (Matthew 28:18-20)
As a Christian it is also important to learn to share the gospel of Christ and His salvation to other people. You can share the gospel to friends, family, workmates or even strangers.
Everyone needs to hear the gospel of Christ and God desires that all people become saved. Therefore we must play our part to share God’s word and God’s free gift of salvation to others because it is an act of love.

5. Trust God in every area of your life (Proverbs 3:5,6)
As Christians we no longer live according to our feelings or moods or according to the values of this world. Instead we live according to the word of God.
We therefore must put our trust and faith in God. We must rely on God and the promises and instructions that He gives us in the Scriptures. We must learn to trust God in every situation because God will work all things for good (Romans 8:28). Therefore God can also use bad situations in our life for His glory and for our spiritual growth as we walk with Him.

6. Obey the Lord (Matthew 7:24,25; James 1:22-25)
The Bible says that we must be “doers of the word and not hearers only”.
Therefore we must be willing to exercise our faith in God by obeying His scriptures. Our obedience to God will reflect the nature of Jesus Christ to others. Our obedience to God will enable us to grow spiritually in the Lord.

7. Have God control your life daily (Galatians 5:16-25)
Being a Christian means that we now submit our entire life to the Lordship and control of Jesus Christ. As a Christian it is Jesus who is in the driver’s seat of your life. We therefore surrender to Him daily and allow Christ to lead us in whatever we do.
Therefore whether we are in the workplace, with family, with friends, in relationships or in whatever plans we have for our life – we surrender everything to God and seek God’s guidance and direction in every area through prayer and reading His word.

8. Join a good Bible-based church that teaches Bible based Christian doctrine. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
The church is not a building. The church is actually the people. The church are born again believers.
However it is important to join a good Bible-based church that teaches and preaches the word of God correctly and where you can fellowship and grow with other Christian believers.
It is therefore important to be prayerful and to research with God’s guidance for the right church to join.

9. Spend more time associating with good & genuine Christians who will encourage you to grow in the Lord. (1 Corinthians 15:33)
Whether you’re in the workplace, with family, with friends, it is important to ensure that you spend more time with Christian believers who will build and encourage you to grow in Christ.

How Can I Receive Forgiveness From God?

It is a fact that we all have done some bad things in our life. We have all done things that are shameful and hurtful to ourselves and to others.
The reason why we are capable of doing acts that are bad, wicked, foolish and shameful is because we are inherently sinners. We have an inherited sinful nature because of the sin of Adam in the Garden of Eden (Romans 5:12).

Romans 3:10 and Romans 3:23 says that none of us are righteous and that we are all sinners who fall short of the glory of God.

So the fact that we are all sinners before a just and holy God, means that we all require God’s forgiveness for our sins. If we do not receive the forgiveness of God, then we will perish eternally.

The effect of our sins is that our sins have a tendency to separate us from a holy God. Sin draws us further from God and can hinder our spiritual growth and relationship with Him.
Isaiah 59:2 says: “But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear.”

Fortunately God is a forgiving God. The Creator of the universe is loving, merciful and gracious even though we are sinners and have done many shameful things in our life.

Psalms 103:12 says: “As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.”

In Isaiah 43:25, God says “I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions, for My own sake, and remembers your sins no more.”

Isaiah 1:18 says “Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.”

To “forgive” means to pardon; to cancel a debt; to wipe the slate clean.
Forgiveness is necessary because it helps to restore a broken relationship. Therefore a relationship cannot be restored without forgiveness.
So for us to be eternally reconciled with God – then God must forgive us of our sins.

So the question is: How can we receive forgiveness from God?

Hebrews 9:22 says “Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.”

Acts 13:38 says “Let it be known to you therefore, brothers, that through this Man (Jesus Christ) forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, and by Him everyone who believes is freed from everything”

We can only receive forgiveness from God because of the finished work that Jesus completed on the Cross. Jesus Christ paid for our sins on the cross and thereby paid the debt we owe God because of sin.
The blood that Christ shed on the Cross was what was used to pay the debt for our sins. Therefore Jesus took the penalty for our sin (Romans 6:23).
Ephesians 1:7 says: In Him (Jesus Christ) we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace,

It’s also important to note that we cannot earn the forgiveness of God. We receive God’s forgiveness freely. All we need to do is confess our sins or the fact that we are sinners in need of Jesus Christ. We furthermore need to believe and receive Jesus Christ as Saviour through placing our total faith in Him (Ephesians 2:8-9). God’s forgiveness is the result of His love, grace and mercy.

Receive Forgiveness Through Accepting Jesus Christ as Lord & Saviour
When we believe and receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour then we will be forgiven of our sins. It is only through becoming born again believers in Christ that we can receive God’s forgiveness and become part of the family of God (John 1:12).

Romans 10:9-10 says “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.”

1 John 1:9 says: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

DO YOU WANT TO RECEIVE FORGIVENESS AND BE A FOLLOWER OF JESUS CHRIST???

Repenting means: to change your mind; a sincere turning away, in heart, mind and action;

Is Speaking in Tongues Necessary for Salvation?

Is speaking in tongues necessary for salvation? Are tongues also evidence that a person is saved and has the Holy Spirit?
The quick answer to these questions is NO! Speaking in tongues is not necessary for salvation.

What is The Gift of Speaking in Tongues?
According to the Bible, speaking in tongues first occurred on the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2:1-12.
The Greek word meaning “tongues” literally refers to known human languages. Therefore tongues were languages that were spoken by human beings.
It is also important to note that the modern “speaking in tongues” as is witnessed within the Charismatic / Pentecostal movement where there is babbling or incomprehensible speech is controversial and it is not supported by the Scriptures. Therefore there is no Biblical evidence of the current modern tongues as witnessed today where people speak babble or supposedly “angelic” languages but without any verifiable interpretation.
God’s word requires that if anyone speaks in tongues, then there must be verifiable interpretation so as to avoid causing confusion and even division within the church (1 Corinthians 12:1-40).
The genuine example of speaking in tongues is found in Acts 2:1-12. The gift of tongues is supernaturally speaking in a language a person does not know in order to minister God’s word to someone who does speak that language.
So a Christian who did not learn how to speak Russian may be supernaturally gifted by the Holy Spirit to minister in the Russian language for the benefit of the Russian people who are with him.
The Bible does not refer to speaking in tongues as a secret spiritual language or as any kind of babbling – but it refers to one speaking in a known human language that is ordinarily spoken by humans from different nations or tribes.
We clearly see this example in Acts 2:1-12 that tongues were known human languages which were supernaturally spoken by people who did not learn how to speak those human languages. Furthermore, there would be an interpreter of the language (1 Corinthians 14:27).

Is It Necessary to Speak in Tongues to Become a Christian?
It is not necessary for one to speak in tongues in order to be saved. Speaking in tongues is a gift that is distributed by the Holy Spirit to whomever He pleases for God’s own specific purposes.
Therefore not everyone has the gift of speaking in tongues and the gift of tongues cannot be used as evidence of one’s salvation.
1 Corinthians 12:7-11 says: To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 8 To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.

In 1 Corinthians 12:29-30, Paul asks these rhetorical questions: “Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? 30 Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret?”

So it is clear that the gift of speaking in tongues is not for everyone, just as all the other individual spiritual gifts mentioned in the Bible are not for everyone.
Futhermore, it is believed that the gift of speaking in tongues has long ceased according to 1 Corinthians 13:8-10. Therefore the gift is no longer in use.

Therefore the only evidence that is necessary for salvation is to believe and receive Jesus Christ by faith. A person’s regeneration and conversion to Christ is the work of the Holy Spirit.
Every born again Christian automatically has the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and does not need to speak in tongues as evidence of salvation (John 16:8-11), (Romans 8:16).

John 1:12 says: But to all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God,

Ephesians 2:8-9 says: For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

We believe and receive Jesus Christ by faith with the understanding that we are all sinners before a just and holy God (Romans 3:23).
Our sins have separated us from a relationship with God and we therefore deserve to be punished for our transgressions against God’s laws (Romans 6:23).
However God sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ to pay the debt of our sins on the cross so that if we accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, then we will not perish but we will have an everlasting relationship and life with God (John 3:16).
Therefore Jesus Christ alone is necessary for our salvation and not speaking in tongues.
Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6).

How Do I Convert to Christianity?

How do you convert to Christianity? Well, let us start by first defining Christianity and what it means to be a Christian.
Christianity in its purest and Biblical form is a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ. Christianity is not a religion of Do’s and Don’ts but it is a personal one-on-one relationship between you and the Creator of the universe.
A Christian is a follower of Jesus Christ and the teachings in the Bible which is the infallible word of God. The word Christian means: to be Christ-like or to have the character of Christ.
Therefore a Christian is one who aims to conform to the image and character of Jesus Christ in his/her daily life.

Why Christianity?
Christianity is about the good news that God loves the world so much that He sent Jesus Christ to die and pay for the sins of mankind (John 3:16).
Sin is when we violate the commandments of God knowingly or unknowingly. All of mankind is guilty of committing sin against God (Romans 3:23).
Therefore if you have ever had an impure thought; or if you have ever stolen; or if you have ever told a lie; or done any kind of wrongdoing in your life – these are examples of sins that we are guilty of committing before a just and holy God.
So before God we are like criminals who deserve to be punished for their crimes. So because we are sinners, we actually deserve to be punished in hell.
However, whilst we are sinners, God still loves us and Jesus Christ was crucified on the Cross to save us from our sin and to save us from experiencing the ultimate consequence of sin which is punishment in an everlasting hell (Romans 6:23).
So even though we are sinners deserving hell, God demonstrated His grace and love for us by allowing Jesus Christ to pay for our sins so that we may have eternal life.

Romans 5:8 says: But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Ephesians 2:8-9 says: For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

So even though we are sinners who deserve to be eternally punished for all our transgressions, God shows demonstrates His love and grace for us by giving us salvation as a free gift through Jesus Christ.

Conversion to Christianity Happens Inwardly
It is only faith or trusting in Jesus Christ that can save you from sin. Conversion to Christianity happens inwardly. Jesus came to save people through changing the hearts of men so that they turn away from sin and follow Him. Christianity is an inward desire to follow Christ and become more like Him and this inward repentance will eventually manifest outwardly in our actions and behavior in life.
God is willing to save anyone and He desires that all people should repent.
2 Peter 3:9 says: The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
It does not matter if you’re from a different religion; or if you’re an atheist; or if you have committed many terrible sins in your life. Jesus Christ died for the lost; Jesus died for sinners.
Jesus said the following in Matthew 9:12-13… “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 13 Go and learn what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”
God loves you and Jesus Christ paid for your sins and the sins of the world on the Cross.
Remember that Christianity is a relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

How Do I Practically Convert To Christianity?

1. Acknowledge You Are A Sinner
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
It does not matter which background or religion that we come from – we have all broken at least one or more of God’s commandments, like those mentioned in Exodus 20:1-17.

2. Repent of Sinful Lifestyle & Follow Jesus
“Unless you repent you will all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3), “Repent therefore and be converted that your sins may be blotted out” (Acts 3:19)
Repenting means: to change your mind; a sincere turning away, in heart, mind and action;
Therefore God wants you to repent of sinful values and of sinful living. God wants you to decide to
follow Him and to make Jesus Christ the Lord of your life.

3. Confess Jesus Christ as Lord & Saviour
“If we confess our sins.

4. Believe Jesus Christ is the Only Way for Salvation
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6)
