How Can I Receive Forgiveness From God?

It is a fact that we all have done some bad things in our life. We have all done things that are shameful and hurtful to ourselves and to others.
The reason why we are capable of doing acts that are bad, wicked, foolish and shameful is because we are inherently sinners. We have an inherited sinful nature because of the sin of Adam in the Garden of Eden (Romans 5:12).

Romans 3:10 and Romans 3:23 says that none of us are righteous and that we are all sinners who fall short of the glory of God.

So the fact that we are all sinners before a just and holy God, means that we all require God’s forgiveness for our sins. If we do not receive the forgiveness of God, then we will perish eternally.

The effect of our sins is that our sins have a tendency to separate us from a holy God. Sin draws us further from God and can hinder our spiritual growth and relationship with Him.
Isaiah 59:2 says: “But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear.”

Fortunately God is a forgiving God. The Creator of the universe is loving, merciful and gracious even though we are sinners and have done many shameful things in our life.

Psalms 103:12 says: “As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.”

In Isaiah 43:25, God says “I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions, for My own sake, and remembers your sins no more.”

Isaiah 1:18 says “Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.”

To “forgive” means to pardon; to cancel a debt; to wipe the slate clean.
Forgiveness is necessary because it helps to restore a broken relationship. Therefore a relationship cannot be restored without forgiveness.
So for us to be eternally reconciled with God – then God must forgive us of our sins.

So the question is: How can we receive forgiveness from God?

Hebrews 9:22 says “Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.”

Acts 13:38 says “Let it be known to you therefore, brothers, that through this Man (Jesus Christ) forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, and by Him everyone who believes is freed from everything”

We can only receive forgiveness from God because of the finished work that Jesus completed on the Cross. Jesus Christ paid for our sins on the cross and thereby paid the debt we owe God because of sin.
The blood that Christ shed on the Cross was what was used to pay the debt for our sins. Therefore Jesus took the penalty for our sin (Romans 6:23).
Ephesians 1:7 says: In Him (Jesus Christ) we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace,

It’s also important to note that we cannot earn the forgiveness of God. We receive God’s forgiveness freely. All we need to do is confess our sins or the fact that we are sinners in need of Jesus Christ. We furthermore need to believe and receive Jesus Christ as Saviour through placing our total faith in Him (Ephesians 2:8-9). God’s forgiveness is the result of His love, grace and mercy.

Receive Forgiveness Through Accepting Jesus Christ as Lord & Saviour
When we believe and receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour then we will be forgiven of our sins. It is only through becoming born again believers in Christ that we can receive God’s forgiveness and become part of the family of God (John 1:12).

Romans 10:9-10 says “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.”

1 John 1:9 says: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

DO YOU WANT TO RECEIVE FORGIVENESS AND BE A FOLLOWER OF JESUS CHRIST???

1. ACKNOWLEDGE: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
This means that we have all broken God’s laws and God’s 10 Commandments like those mentioned in Exodus 20:1-17. For example, if you have told a lie; if you have stolen something; if you have lusted after somebody or if you have coveted. This means you are guilty of breaking at least one or more of God’s 10 Commandments. Breaking God’s commandments makes us sinners. The fact that we are sinners who have broken God’s law means that we are accountable to God who is the Lawgiver. Romans 6:23 says that “the wages of sin is death BUT the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”
You must acknowledge that you are a sinner who has broken God’s commandments and that you therefore need Jesus in your life.

2. REPENT: “Unless you repent you will all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3), “Repent therefore and be converted that your sins may be blotted out” (Acts 3:19)
Repenting means: to change your mind; a sincere turning away, in heart, mind and action;
Therefore God wants you to repent of sinful values and of sinful living. God wants you to decide to
follow Him and to make Jesus the Lord of your life.

3. CONFESSION: “If we confess our sins. He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9)
God is a forgiving God. God will forgive any sin that you have done because Jesus died for ALL your sins and to set you free from the bondage of all types of sin in your life.

4. BELIEVE: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
You must believe that ONLY Jesus can save you and restore your relationship with God. You must believe that Jesus is the ONLY way by which you can have everlasting life and escape from eternal separation from God. You must believe that Jesus died on the cross for you and resurrected from the grave.
“He came to His own, and His own did not receive him, But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name” (John 1:11-12)
By faith, You must receive Jesus as Your Lord & Savior and therefore; you become a child of God; you become born again; you become a Christian; you restore your broken relationship with God

Is Speaking in Tongues Necessary for Salvation?

Is speaking in tongues necessary for salvation? Are tongues also evidence that a person is saved and has the Holy Spirit?
The quick answer to these questions is NO! Speaking in tongues is not necessary for salvation.

What is The Gift of Speaking in Tongues?
According to the Bible, speaking in tongues first occurred on the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2:1-12.
The Greek word meaning “tongues” literally refers to known human languages. Therefore tongues were languages that were spoken by human beings.
It is also important to note that the modern “speaking in tongues” as is witnessed within the Charismatic / Pentecostal movement where there is babbling or incomprehensible speech is controversial and it is not Biblical. Therefore the Bible does not define the current modern tongues as witnessed today where people speak babble but without any verifiable interpretation.
The genuine example of speaking in tongues is found in Acts 2:1-12. The gift of tongues is supernaturally speaking in a language a person does not know in order to minister God’s word to someone who does speak that language.
So a Christian who did not learn how to speak Russian may be supernaturally gifted by the Holy Spirit to minister in the Russian language for the benefit of the Russian people who are with him.
The Bible does not refer to speaking in tongues as a secret spiritual language or as any kind of babbling – but it refers to one speaking in a known human language that is ordinarily spoken by humans from different nations.
We clearly see this example in Acts 2:1-12 that tongues were known human languages which were supernaturally spoken by people who did not learn how to speak those human languages. Furthermore, there would be an interpreter of the language (1 Corinthians 14:27).

Is It Necessary to Speak in Tongues to Become a Christian?
It is not necessary for one to speak in tongues in order to be saved. Speaking in tongues is a gift that is distributed by the Holy Spirit to whomever He pleases for God’s own specific purposes.
Therefore not everyone has the gift of speaking in tongues and the gift of tongues cannot be used as evidence of one’s salvation.
1 Corinthians 12:7-11 says: To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 8 To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.

In 1 Corinthians 12:29-30, Paul asks these rhetorical questions: “Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? 30 Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret?”

So it is clear that the gift of speaking in tongues is not for everyone, just as all the other individual spiritual gifts mentioned in the Bible are not for everyone.
Futhermore, it is believed that the gift of speaking in tongues has long ceased according to 1 Corinthians 13:8-10. Therefore the gift is no longer in use.

Therefore the only evidence that is necessary for salvation is to believe and receive Jesus Christ by faith. A person’s regeneration and conversion to Christ is the work of the Holy Spirit.
Every born again Christian automatically has the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and does not need to speak in tongues as evidence of salvation (John 16:8-11), (Romans 8:16).

John 1:12 says: But to all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God,

Ephesians 2:8-9 says: For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

We believe and receive Jesus Christ by faith with the understanding that we are all sinners before a just and holy God (Romans 3:23).
Our sins have separated us from a relationship with God and we therefore deserve to be punished for our transgressions against God’s laws (Romans 6:23).
However God sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ to pay the debt of our sins on the cross so that if we accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, then we will not perish but we will have an everlasting relationship and life with God (John 3:16).
Therefore Jesus Christ alone is necessary for our salvation and not speaking in tongues.
Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6).

How Do I Convert to Christianity?

How do you convert to Christianity? Well, let us start by first defining Christianity and what it means to be a Christian.
Christianity in its purest and Biblical form is a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ. Christianity is not a religion of Do’s and Don’ts but it is a personal one-on-one relationship between you and the Creator of the universe.
A Christian is a follower of Jesus Christ and the teachings in the Bible which is the infallible word of God. The word Christian means: to be Christ-like or to have the character of Christ.
Therefore a Christian is one who aims to conform to the image and character of Jesus Christ in his/her daily life.

Why Christianity?
Christianity is about the good news that God loves the world so much that He sent Jesus Christ to die and pay for the sins of mankind (John 3:16).
Sin is when we violate the commandments of God knowingly or unknowingly. All of mankind is guilty of committing sin against God (Romans 3:23).
Therefore if you have ever had an impure thought; or if you have ever stolen; or if you have ever told a lie; or done any kind of wrongdoing in your life – these are examples of sins that we are guilty of committing before a just and holy God.
So before God we are like criminals who deserve to be punished for their crimes. So because we are sinners, we actually deserve to be punished in hell.
However, whilst we are sinners, God still loves us and Jesus Christ was crucified on the Cross to save us from our sin and to save us from experiencing the ultimate consequence of sin which is punishment in an everlasting hell (Romans 6:23).
So even though we are sinners deserving hell, God demonstrated His grace and love for us by allowing Jesus Christ to pay for our sins so that we may have eternal life.

Romans 5:8 says: But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Ephesians 2:8-9 says: For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

So even though we are sinners who deserve to be eternally punished for all our transgressions, God shows demonstrates His love and grace for us by giving us salvation as a free gift through Jesus Christ.

Conversion to Christianity Happens Inwardly
It is only faith or trusting in Jesus Christ that can save you from sin. Conversion to Christianity happens inwardly. Jesus came to save people through changing the hearts of men so that they turn away from sin and follow Him. Christianity is an inward desire to follow Christ and become more like Him and this inward repentance will eventually manifest outwardly in our actions and behavior in life.
God is willing to save anyone and He desires that all people should repent.
2 Peter 3:9 says: The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
It does not matter if you’re from a different religion; or if you’re an atheist; or if you have committed many terrible sins in your life. Jesus Christ died for the lost; Jesus died for sinners.
Jesus said the following in Matthew 9:12-13… “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 13 Go and learn what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”
God loves you and Jesus Christ paid for your sins and the sins of the world on the Cross.
Remember that Christianity is a relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

How Do I Practically Convert To Christianity?

1. Acknowledge You Are A Sinner
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
It does not matter which background or religion that we come from – we have all broken at least one or more of God’s commandments, like those mentioned in Exodus 20:1-17.

2. Repent of Sinful Lifestyle & Follow Jesus
“Unless you repent you will all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3), “Repent therefore and be converted that your sins may be blotted out” (Acts 3:19)
Repenting means: to change your mind; a sincere turning away, in heart, mind and action;
Therefore God wants you to repent of sinful values and of sinful living. God wants you to decide to
follow Him and to make Jesus Christ the Lord of your life.

3. Confess Jesus Christ as Lord & Saviour
“If we confess our sins.

4. Believe Jesus Christ is the Only Way for Salvation
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6)

Does Purgatory Exist?

Where does a person go when he/she dies? It is the belief of the Roman Catholic Church that some people will go to a temporary place called purgatory before entering Heaven.

According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, purgatory is defined in the following way:
Purgatory (Lat., “purgare”, to make clean, to purify) in accordance with Catholic teaching is a place or condition of temporal punishment for those who, departing this life in God’s grace , are, not entirely free from venial faults, or have not fully paid the satisfaction due to their transgressions.

So the question is: does purgatory exist and what does the Bible really say about where we will go when we die?
According to the scriptures, there are only 2 places that a person can either go when he/she dies. A person can either go to Heaven or that person can either go to a place called hell.
The scriptures do not mention any place that is called purgatory nor does the Bible describe any place that serves as a temporal punishment when a person has died.
Matthew 25:46 says: “And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
2 Corinthians 5:8 says: “We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord”

In this world, we only have one life on this earth in which we can either make a choice for Heaven or we can make a choice for hell.
Our choice for Heaven or hell depends upon whether we genuinely accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour (John 3:16 and 1 John 5:12).
According to the scriptures we cannot enter Heaven unless we are born again and received Jesus Christ as Lord (John 1:12 and John 3:3-6).

The concept of purgatory contradicts scripture and it misleads people in the following ways:

1. Purgatory Belief Opposes the Purpose of Christ’s Death on The Cross
Jesus Christ shed His blood on the Cross so that we may be redeemed. It is through His blood that the debt of sin was fully paid by Jesus Christ. Therefore there is no need for any further purification in purgatory because the blood of Christ is enough to purify us from sin.
Ephesians 1:7 says: In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.
1 Peter 1:18-19 says: For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors,
but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.

2. Purgatory Belief Falsely Supports Salvation by Works Instead of Salvation by Grace
The idea of purgatory suggests that when people die they are, not entirely free from venial faults, or have not fully paid the satisfaction due to their transgressions.
The purgatory belief suggests that man needs to pay for his own salvation or that man needs to earn his own way into Heaven. This contradicts the scriptures and the true graceful nature of God.
We cannot earn our salvation by our own works. We cannot pay for our sins because we do not have the capacity to do so. It is the very reason why Jesus came to pay for our sins. He did so because mankind could not pay the debt of sin to a just and holy God.
Ephesians 2:8-9 says: For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, a result of works, so that no one may boast.

3. Purgatory Belief Opposes Your New Identity in Christ Jesus
2 Corinthians 5:17 says: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
2 Corinthians 5:21 says: For our sake He made Him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.
Every born again Christian is a new spiritual creation in Christ. The moment a person becomes a Christian, that person becomes “the righteousness of God”. This means that when God looks at a Christian, He sees the righteousness of Christ and the Person of Christ inside the Christian.
Therefore we enter Heaven not on the basis of our own personal effort or works, but we enter Heaven because of Christ in us and because of what He accomplished on our behalf on the Cross.
The belief in purgatory ignores the Christian’s new identity in Christ and the fact that the Christian believer is a new creation whose sins are fully and totally paid for by Christ.

4. Purgatory Belief Deceives People to Believe They Have a Second Chance After Death
Every single person on this planet has been given a chance by God to repent and accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. As long as we live and have breath on this earth, we still have the opportunity to become born again Christians. However, after we die, we either go to Heaven or are sent to hell.
2 Peter 3:9 says: The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
Hebrews 9:27 says: “And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment”

Catholics have used 1 Corinthians 3:15 to justify the existence of purgatory. 1 Corinthians 3:15 says: If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.
In context, this scripture does not define the existence of a place called purgatory. A few verses upwards in 1 Corinthians 3:11, Paul says no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
If Jesus Christ is the foundation of anyone who is a believer in Christ, then one must recognize that redemption and purification is only possible by the blood of Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:7) and not by entering purgatory.
Therefore if Jesus is our foundation then we will also acknowledge that salvation is not by works but it is only possible because of the sacrifice Jesus Christ made on the Cross in payment for our sins.
It’s therefore important to understand that purgatory does not exist but only Heaven or hell will await those who die.
TODAY – receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.

DO YOU WANT TO BE A CHRISTIAN or A FOLLOWER OF JESUS CHRIST???

Repenting means: to change your mind; a sincere turning away, in heart, mind and action;

Does God Predestine People to Hell?

Does God predestine certain people to go to hell? Were certain people created just so that they can be punished by God in hell?
There are some people who believe that God creates various people whose purpose and fate is to be sent to hell.
However, what does the Bible really teach about God’s nature and the issue of predestination?

2 Peter 3:9 says the following: “The Lord is not slow to fulfill His promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance”

We therefore learn from 2 Peter 3:9 that God does not wish for anybody to perish. We also learn that God desires for all people to repent.
Therefore based on this scripture alone, it is clear that God does not predestine people to go to hell. Therefore, God has not created anybody with the specific intention or purpose of ensuring that such a person goes to hell.

The reason people go to hell is based upon their own freewill or personal choice to reject God and to reject Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.
Romans 1:21 says “For although they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks to Him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened”

Freewill relates to mankind’s ability to make his own choice and decisions. God created man with a mind and therefore man has the ability to choose between right and wrong or between good and evil.
Therefore every person has the freewill to both choose God and follow Him – or to reject Him.
God does not force anyone to become a Christian but He allows us to make a choice.

In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve were given a choice to obey God by not eating the forbidden fruit but instead they made the choice to listen to the devil (Genesis 3:1-24).
Therefore one of the unique aspects of mankind which differentiates us from animals, is our ability to have freewill. It’s also important to note that God does not violate our freewill. He does not force us to love Him; He does not force us to follow Him; God does not force us to do anything.
Deuteronomy 30:19 God says that he sets before us life and death, blessing and cursing but He urges us to use our freewill and choose life.

However, the fact that God does not force us or violate our freewill – this does not release us from the consequences of making bad decisions or evil choices.
For example, when a person is presented with the gospel of Jesus Christ but yet refuses to become a born again Christian, then that particular person will go to hell because he/she has rejected Christ.
1 John 5:12 says “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life”

Every cause has an effect. It is a natural and spiritual part of life that there are consequences or effects that coincide with the choices or decisions we make.
The consequence of Adam and Eve’s decision to disobey God was that sin affected all of mankind.
Romans 5:12 says “Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned”

Man is therefore accountable for the choices he makes. Man cannot hold anybody else accountable for his own mistakes or choices done by his own freewill. Even in Genesis 3:1-24, God held Adam, Eve and the serpent accountable for their own freewill actions in the Garden of Eden.

John 3:9 says “And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil”.

Therefore, when people go to hell – it is not because God predestined that they should go to hell, but it is because people made freewill choices that sent them to hell.
Therefore hell is a choice because there are people who love darkness instead of the light; there are people who love the pleasures of sin rather than good; there are people who follow wickedness rather than righteousness.

God knows in advance who will go to hell and who will go to heaven because God is by nature omniscient or all-knowing. However this does not mean that He predestines anyone to go to hell.
In fact, just as we read in 2 Peter 3:9, God desires that all people should repent. Unfortunately this is not possible because there are people who exercise their freewill to reject God and the gospel of Christ.

We were created to have fellowship with God. We were created for the purpose of glorifying God. God never intended for anyone to go to hell.
In fact, hell was originally created for the devil and the fallen angels (Matthew 25:41).
However, due to sin and also the purposeful and freewill rejection of Jesus Christ, those who do not become born again will also encounter the same fate as the devil and the fallen angels.

DO YOU WANT TO BE A CHRISTIAN or A FOLLOWER OF JESUS CHRIST???

Repenting means: to change your mind; a sincere turning away, in heart, mind and action;
