The Lord Will Fight For You

Exodus 14:14 NKJV
The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.

As a child of God, you are precious to God. God is protective of you because you are special to God and He will not allow the pressures of life to defeat you.
Whenever you face the enemy or whenever you face various trials, you must always remember that you do not face the enemy alone. Whenever you battle the enemy, God is right there next to you.
In fact, God is fighting YOUR battles FOR YOU. In most cases God is working behind the scenes on your behalf.
When the children of Israel were escaping the Egyptians as they were crossing the Red Sea, Moses told the Israelites that the Lord will fight for the children of Israel.
When the Egyptians were defeated by the Red Sea, the children of Israel did not have to use a single sword, spear or any kind of weapon in order to defeat their enemy. All the fighting was done by God on behalf of the children of Israel.

Exodus 14:13 NKJV
And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever.”

Whatever challenges you are going through, whether it be a relationship, an economic, a financial or a family problem – “do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord which He will accomplish for you today”.
Give your challenges to God in prayer and rely on God to fight your battles. There are various things in life that you cannot control and that are beyond your own understanding. Only God can control all things and only God can never ever be defeated. Therefore be strong and allow the Lord to fight for you.

Psalm 60:12 NKJV
Through God we will do valiantly, For it is He who shall tread down our enemies.

It’s God who will tread down your enemies. It’s God who will defeat your problems. It’s God who will win your battles. Don’t go into battle with your own strength and your own understanding. Take the Lord with you, and make sure that the Lord is your Commander.

TODAY. Remember – the battle is the Lord’s.

No Weapon Shall Prosper

Isaiah 54:17 NKJV

No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment
You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the Lord.

Life is full of battles. The Christian journey is full of opposition. Jesus said that in this world we would face trials and tribulation. Jesus never promised that once you started following Him that you would be problem free.
Therefore the devil will from time to time throw temptation and all sort of challenges in your direction. The devil will also use all sorts of people and situations to try and get you to lose your focus and destroy your relationship with God.
However God promises that “no weapon formed against you shall prosper”.
The enemy might try to inflict emotional, spiritual, physical or financial pain on your life. You may feel the effects (because God does not promise a problem-free life) but God says that these effects will NOT PROSPER over your life.

Ephesian 6:10-11 NKJV
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

In order to overcome the tricks and attacks of the devil, you need to be strong in the Lord.
You must also put on the WHOLE armor of God which consists of
1. The belt of truth
2. The breastplate of righteousness
3. Shedding your feet with the gospel of peace
4. The shield of faith
5. The helmet of salvation
6. The sword of the Spirit which is the word of God

In Christ, we are equipped to overcome and be victorious over the enemy. The Christian life is full of battles, but we have the victory in Christ Jesus. God has given us spiritual weapons to defend ourselves and to defeat the enemy.

Today and everyday. Remember that no weapon formed against you will prosper and make sure you are always wearing the full armor of God.

Pride of Life (The Devil Tempts Jesus – Part 4)

The pride of life is defined as a worldly characteristic which leads a person to be arrogant, boastful, conceited and reliant on one’s own wisdom rather than on God.

Matthew 4:5-7 NKJV
Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: ‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’ and, ‘In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.'”
Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’

Even the devil can quote scripture in order to tempt somebody. When the devil quotes scripture though, he will quote the Bible out of context with the aim of misguiding those who do not know the TRUTH of God’s word.
By trying to tempt Jesus to jump off the temple, the devil wanted Jesus to test God’s love and God’s promises. God does not need to be tested. He is perfect and He keeps His promises. Testing God would imply that we know better than God. Testing God would also imply that we believe God is imperfect or that we have doubts about God’s sincerity and whether God is able to accomplish certain things on our behalf.

Genesis 3:4-6
Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.

Even when Adam and Eve was tempted, the devil made Eve doubt God’s sincerity and character by insinuating to Eve that God doesn’t want them to be like Him nor for them to have wisdom or knowledge of good and evil. Therefore Eve gave in to temptation when she thought the fruit from the tree would make her wise. Basically, she thought that God was hiding information from her and she had to test and see if God was telling the truth or not.
Anytime you think you know better than God, you fall into temptation. Anytime you think you know better than God you give in to the pride of life.

In order to avoid falling into the temptation of the pride of life, we always need to have a humble attitude. We also need to remember that God knows MORE than we do, and therefore when He gives us instruction through His word, we must BELIEVE Him and not look for ways to doubt or test His sincerity.

Jesus knew that there was no glory to God if He were listen to the devil by jumping off that temple. The situation was not conducive or appropriate for Him to do so. The motive would be self-centred and wrong and God would not be glorified. Therefore Jesus response to the devil was appropriate “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’

The Devil Tempts Jesus – Part 2

Colossians 2:8 NKJV
Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.

What values, principles and doctrines do you live by? WHOSE teachings, philosophies and words do you live by?
Do you feed your mind and spirit with what proceeds out of the mouth of the world and various people, or do you feed your mind and spirit with what proceeds out of the word of God?
For example, people who do not believe in God tend to live by what proceeds out of the mouth of the men who devised the Theory of Evolution and also the Big Bang Theory – of which these theories and ideas deny the existence of God. Therefore whatever information you feed yourself with has an effect on your worldview and how you see life.

Matthew 4:3-4 NKJV
Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.'”

While Jesus was fasting, the very first temptation that the devil proposed to Jesus had to do with fulfilling FLESHY DESIRES by suggesting to Jesus that He turn stones into bread. Jesus had gone without food for several days and naturally His body must have felt the desire for food. But Jesus had not completed His fast yet and by fasting & praying Jesus was nurturing, nourishing and edifying His spirit & spiritual desires. Jesus was not interested in listening to any suggestion or any idea that proceeded out of the mouth of the devil no matter how physically hungry He might have been. Jesus’ spiritual goal was MORE important for Him to achieve than inappropriately satisfying a temporary fleshly desire at that time.
Therefore the devil’s first temptation, appealed to the FLESHLY desires. The scriptures sometimes call these desires “THE LUST OF THE FLESH”.
Just as the devil tried to make Jesus turn the stones into bread, today, the devil has still been tempting masses of people with suggestions that we feed ourselves with our own SELF-MADE / MAN-MADE doctrines and philosophies INSTEAD of living “by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”

The devil has tempted and suggested to mankind issues, teachings and acts that are clearly forbidden by the word of God such as evolution, homosexuality, abortion, fornication, pornography, materialism etc, all of which satisfy the fleshly needs and desires – but only temporarily. These current worldviews, suggestions, teachings and doctrines are temptations which proceed from the mouth of other people and NOT “from the mouth of God”.

Therefore I believe that Jesus’ response to the first temptation wasn’t just about food, but it was also about ideas & teachings. Jesus said to the devil , “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”
Jesus was telling the devil – man lives by the words and teachings of God ONLY and NOT by anything that the devil or tempter has to offer or suggest which only satisfy the flesh.

TODAY. From whose mouth are you feeding from? Is it from the mouth of men & the tempter – or is it STRICTLY from “what proceeds from the mouth of God“?

Pray For Your Enemies

Do you know of anyone who dislikes you? Are you being persecuted even though you have done nothing wrong? Are there people in your life who are just trying to do anything in their power to make sure that you don’t succeed? What are you doing about it?
Is it right to pray for the damnation of our (human) enemy? Should we pray AGAINST them or should we pray FOR them? What does Jesus say?

Matthew 5:43-48 NKJV
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.‘ But I say to you, LOVE your enemies, BLESS those who curse you, DO GOOD to those who hate you, and PRAY for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, THAT YOU MAY BE SONS OF YOUR FATHER IN HEAVEN; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so? THEREFORE YOU SHALL BE PERFECT, JUST AS YOUR FATHER IN HEAVEN IS PERFECT.

Jesus clearly says we should LOVE, BLESS, DO GOOD and PRAY for our enemies or persecutors.
But why would Jesus command such a thing? It’s not an easy thing to love and do good to those who persecute us. But remember that the Lord knows everything and that He is wise.

  1. Jesus wants you as a Christian to be different from the world. The world teaches that you must “love your neighbor and hate your enemy”. GOD teaches that you must not only love your neighbor – but you must ALSO love your enemy – because to do so shows that you are “sons of your Father in Heaven”
  2. Jesus Christ the begotten Son of God came to earth to save and die for the sins of ALL people INCLUDING those people who shouted “Crucify Him! Crucify Him!” just before He was nailed to the cross (Luke 23:20-22). Jesus was being persecuted yet He was innocent. Out of LOVE, Jesus died for US ALL WHILE WE WERE YET SINNERS (Romans 5:8 NKJV). Therefore, though we deserved damnation to hell, God by His love, mercy and grace sent His Son to die for us so that we may have eternal life. Shouldn’t we show the same love to those who are lost?
  3. While Jesus was hanging on the cross for our sins; experiencing the most excruciating pain known to man He cried “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do…” Luke 23:34 NKJV. Jesus was the perfect example of a man who whilst experiencing great pain and persecution which had been caused by others, could still PRAY to the Father and ask the Father to forgive the very people who were crucifying Him on the cross.
  4. When you LOVE, BLESS, DO GOOD and PRAY for your enemies it shows that you have FORGIVENESS in your heart. It means that you are not ruled by a spirit of bitterness and hatred. “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” Matthew 6:14-15 NKJV
  5. As a Christian you are supposed to BE LIKE Jesus. You must be a VESSEL TO HELP THOSE WHO ARE LOST – EVEN YOUR ENEMIES. In Luke 9:53-56 we learn that the Samaritans at a village would not receive Jesus and so James & John asked Jesus if they should “command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did”. Jesus had to rebuke them for wanting such a thing to happen to other people and so Jesus responded by saying “You do not know what manner of spirit you are of. For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives but to save them.”

• There was a man named Saul in the book of Acts 9:1-19. He used to persecute and kill Christians. One day as Saul came near Damascus, Jesus appeared to Saul and said “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?” Saul had no idea that when he persecuted Christians, he was also persecuting Jesus. Nevertheless Jesus didn’t want to destroy Saul even though Saul had persecuted so many Christians. Jesus wanted to save Saul and to use Saul for God’s glory. So Saul was blinded when Jesus appeared to him and he couldn’t see for several days. Jesus appeared to a man called Ananias to go and find Saul so that he may pray for Saul. Now Saul of course was already well known for his persecutions against Christians and Ananias didn’t understand why the Lord Jesus was asking him to go and pray for Saul, an enemy of Christians. The Lord then told Ananias the plans that He had for Saul and of course Ananias obeyed and Saul got his sight back.
Saul later got his name changed to Paul. This is the same Paul (Saul) who wrote most of the New Testament in the Bible through the inspiration of God.
What’s my point? Like Ananias we need to obey the Lord Jesus and pray for our enemies, for Jesus may have a plan for them. We are NOT called to pray for the DESTRUCTION of people, but we are called to PRAY FOR their SALVATION. It is an act of LOVE.

I’m not saying it’s easy. Jesus praying to the Father: “Forgive them…” whilst hanging on the cross wasn’t easy. I’m not saying be naïve and let people take advantage of you. I’m simply saying obey Jesus, be more like Jesus and let the Spirit of God teach you to love and do good in every situation.

Romans 12:14-21 NKJV
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion.
Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,”* says the Lord. Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.”* Do not be overcome by evil, but OVERCOME EVIL WITH GOOD.

When the Devil Takes the Word Away

Are you facing spiritual warfare? Do you find yourself listening to the word of God but never actually believing or understanding it? Do you find challenges in applying the word of God in your life because you are forgetting what is written in the word of God?
What do you do when the devil takes the word away?

Luke 8:5 NKJV
“A sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell by the wayside; and it was trampled down, and the birds of the air devoured it.

Luke 8:11-12 NKJV
“Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. Those by the wayside are the ones who hear; then the devil comes and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.

From the seed that fell on the wayside; to the seed that fell on the rock; to the seed that fell on the thorns; to the seeds that fell on good ground – these scenarios that Jesus gave are both a picture of spiritual challenges / warfare and also the level of one’s relationship with God.
The word of God is spiritual food. The word of God is meant to make you spiritually healthy and it is meant to help you to grow spiritually in your relationship with God.
When Jesus was tempted by the devil to turn stone into bread, Jesus responded from the word of God by saying: “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4 NKJV. So the word of God is food for your spirit or heart.

So therefore in the parable of the sower Jesus says “The seed is the word of God”. Therefore YOU are the RECIPIENT of the seed (which is the word of God).
The seed mentioned is NOT money. But the seed is THE WORD OF GOD. And it is YOU who must RECEIVE this WORD. The word of God must be PLANTED in YOUR HEART so that you GROW and bear GOOD FRUIT.

Is your heart; mind; soul; attitude and spirit in the right condition to receive God’s word so that you can bear fruit? Or have you hardened your heart so that when you hear the word of God you neither understand it nor receive it? Are you so set in your own ways and in your own way of thinking that the word of God cannot penetrate itself in various areas of your life in order to help you to grow?
Any seed that is planted must have the right soil conditions for it to germinate & grow. Other factors include the right temperature, light, oxygen & water. In the same way if your heart is not in the right condition to receive the word of God, Jesus says that the devil will come and he will take the word out of your heart before the word can have a chance to make a difference in your heart.

The thing you must know is that even the devil knows the VALUE of the WORD OF GOD in a person’s life. That is why the devil will come and try to take the word from your heart. Remember that Jesus said “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy…” John 10:10 NKJV.
Therefore a thief does not steal something unless he believes that what he is stealing has value.
So if the enemy sees the value of God’s word, then YOU too must see that value and ensure that the word of God is enabling you to bear fruit and to have a close relationship with God.
And Jesus says that the devil steals the word from people’s heart because the devil is afraid that they “believe and be saved”.
So ultimately the devil doesn’t want you to believe and to be saved in your life or in whatever specific situation you might be going through. The devil knows that if he can hide the truth of the meaning of God’s word for your life, then he can prevent you from being freed through the knowledge of the word.
Hosea 4:6 says “My people perish for lack of knowledge…” so you need to ensure that you have the right heart; that your heart is like good soil.

Your heart must always be ready to receive the truth; that is the word of God.
The following verses below teach you how to condition your heart

Proverbs 3:5-8 NKJV
“TRUST in the LORD with ALL your HEART, And lean NOT on your OWN UNDERSTANDING; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. DO NOT BE WISE IN YOUR OWN EYES; Fear the LORD and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones.”

Psalms 1:1-3 NKJV
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he MEDITATES day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that BRINGS FORTH ITS FRUIT in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.

To make the conditions of your heart right, you must
1. Trust in the Lord; believe God even if you do not fully understand; Have faith in God.
2. Don’t lean on your own wisdom or understanding; you don’t know everything; only God knows everything
3. Revere the Lord; Don’t live as if God does not exist
4. Delight in the word of the Lord
5. Meditate on God’s word – day and night
6. Hide the word of God in your heart
7. Submit to the leading and will of the Holy Spirit in your day to day life

The results will be that
1. You will be healthy spiritually
2. You will bring / bear forth fruit because your heart is like the good soil
3. Whatever you do shall prosper

When you do the above, the devil will fail to take the word away from you.
