What is to Pray Without Ceasing?

In 1 Thessalonians 5:17, Paul says “Pray without ceasing”. However, what does he mean?
Does he mean that we should literally pray without stopping?
To pray without ceasing means that as Christians we should always be conscious of the fact that God is always with us in whatever we do and wherever we go. Therefore because God is omnipresent, then we should always have a culture of speaking to Him in whatever situation we are in or at any moment in our life.

Praying without ceasing reflects that as Christians, we have a one-on-one relationship with the living God. Praying is not a duty or an assignment. Instead prayer is spiritual communication with God with whom we have a relationship and God is available to us 24 hours a day – 7 days a week.

To pray without ceasing means that God is always approachable and He is always ready to listen to us. God does not give us a timetable as to when or what time we should approach Him.
Hebrews 4:16 says “Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
Therefore praying without ceasing reminds us that we can boldly approach God’s throne at any time during our day because His love and grace allows it.

Whenever we are anxious or in need; whenever we are confused or require wisdom – we can pray to God during our moment of need and trust that He will answer us and give us peace.
In Jeremiah 33:3, God says “Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.”
In Philippians 4:6-7, Paul says “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

So no matter what situation or condition we are in, we can pray to God immediately and consistently concerning our problem or circumstance.
James 5:13 says “Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise.”
1 Thessalonians 5:18 says “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
Therefore in all circumstances in our life we must approach God and have a culture of sharing or communicating our thoughts and experiences to Him.

Praying without ceasing reminds us that God is always ready to forgive us whenever we sin during the day. Whenever we sin or hurt others, God is ready to forgive us when we confess our sins.
1 John 1:9 says “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Therefore whenever we do something wrong, we must get into the habit of immediately confessing to God so that our conscience is always aware that God is watching and that He knows all that we do in our life. God is all-knowing and He knows every detail of our life.
Praying without ceasing is a reminder that we pray to a God who knows us so well that He knows how many hairs we have on our head. Therefore we cannot hide from Him. However we can approach Him at anytime with our faults and He is just and faithful to forgive us.

Praying without ceasing also reminds us that we should never give up praying and we should trust that God will answer us and lead us in the right direction.
Luke 18:1 says “And He told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart.”
Proverbs 3:5-6 says “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.”
Therefore we must have a culture of always acknowledging God in whatever we do so that He is able to lead and direct us in life.

It is therefore necessary for us to develop a culture of praying without ceasing because God is with us and He will never leave us nor forsake us.

Is The Selling of Anointing Oil & Holy Water Biblical?

In many churches or religious groups there has been a trend where various items such as anointing oil, holy water, handkerchiefs, and many other “anointed” products are sold to church members with the belief that the purchase and use of such objects or products will attract God’s blessings, favour and protection.
Therefore church leaders will encourage their followers to purchase their products with the promise that if the followers purchase and use their “anointed” products, then God will answer their prayers.

However, what does the Bible say about the sales of anointing oil and holy water? Should Christians use various “anointed” objects or church products in order to attract God’s favour and protection in their lives?

In the Bible, there is no record of Jesus Christ nor His disciples ever selling anointing oil, holy water or any product with the belief and promise that these products will attract God’s blessing or protection.

Jesus said the following in Matthew 10:7-9: “And proclaim as you go, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. You received without paying; give without pay. 9 Acquire no gold nor silver nor copper for your belts,”

There is no record in the scriptures where Jesus or His disciples healed anyone for a price.
God does not sell miracles. The gifts of God are for free and God’s gifts and blessings cannot be bought or sold by anyone.

Selling of “Anointed” Objects Is a Form of Witchcraft and Idolatry
In Acts 8:9-24 there is the story of Simon the Sorcerer who was strongly rebuked by Peter for thinking that the gifts of the Holy Spirit could be purchased.

Acts 8:18-22
Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money, 19 saying, “Give me this power also, so that anyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.” 20 But Peter said to him, “May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money! 21 You have neither part nor lot in this matter, for your heart is not right before God. 22 Repent, therefore, of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, if possible, the intent of your heart may be forgiven you.

The selling or purchasing of “anointed” items or products such as anointing oil or holy water in exchange for blessings and miracles is equivalent to practicing witchcraft.
God’s word does not teach that people must purchase “anointed” or “holy” objects in exchange for God’s miracles because the power to heal or bless does not come from objects but the power comes directly from God.

It is a form of practicing witchcraft when people purchase objects and trust in those “anointed” objects in exchange for blessings and miracles. It is the same practice when a person visits a sorcerer or witchdoctor. Such practices are therefore cult-like and demonic in nature. Any power or results that are experienced because of trusting in various objects for miracles is likely sourced from satan and not from God.

Having faith in an object for miracles and blessings is also similar to practicing idolatry. Our trust and faith must be directed towards God alone (Mark 11:22) and not towards objects.
Our function as Christians is simply to pray to God whenever we have a problem or petition (Philippians 4:6-7).
We do not need to pray PLUS purchase an “anointed” object for God to answer our prayers.
God is sovereign. Therefore God cannot be manipulated or coerced by the purchase and usage of “anointed” or “holy” objects or products which are sold by various church leaders.
God will answer our prayers without the need for us to pay anybody any money.

False Teachers Are Profiteering From Sales of “Anointed” Objects
The crux of the matter is that the selling of such products as anointing oil or holy water is done for the purposes of making money and exploiting gullible followers.
The Bible warns that there will be many false teachers who will exploit people for the purposes of making money and enriching themselves.

For example, 2 Peter 2:1-3 (KJV) speaks about false teachers and says “through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you”
1 Timothy 6:3-5 says that we must beware of anyone who teaches false doctrines and of false teachers who “think that godliness is a means to financial gain”
Romans 16:18 says “For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive.”

Therefore, one of the primary objectives of many false teachers is to make a lot of money by exploiting the gullibility of their followers. They deceive their followers by suggesting that their products have the power to miraculously change the lives of their followers if their followers purchase and use their “anointed” products.
These false teachers exploit people who are in genuine need of help and who are desperate by selling them “anointed” oil and water. Yet this was never what Jesus did nor what Jesus taught.

It is therefore necessary to avoid any religious group or persons who exploits followers through selling “anointed” objects and products. Such people are false teachers who seek monetary gain and they are used as instruments of the devil to lead people into both witchcraft and idolatry.

What is Sleep Paralysis? Is It A Result of Demonic Attack?

Sleep paralysis can be defined as the temporary inability to move or speak whilst one is either waking up or falling asleep. For many people who have experienced sleep paralysis it can be a frightening and nightmarish experience as the body suddenly feels numb or paralyzed whilst feeling as if a dark or invisible presence has entered your room.
During a state of sleep paralysis, a person may feel the presence of something or someone pressing on top of his/her body. Others have reported hearing noises, humming sounds or even voices whilst in a state of paralysis. Others have felt strange tingling sensations or vibrations on parts of their body whilst some have felt difficulty breathing and out-of-body experiences.

However, is sleep paralysis a psychological condition or is it a result of demonic attack? Are the signs and symptoms of sleep paralysis a result of hallucinations during sleep or is it the work of demons?

The Natural / Scientific Explanation of Sleep Paralysis
Sleep paralysis happens when parts of rapid eye movement (REM) sleep occur while you’re awake.
REM is a stage of sleep when the brain is very active and dreams often occur. The body is unable to move, apart from the eyes and muscles used in breathing, possibly to stop you acting out your dreams and hurting yourself.
Therefore when a person suddenly becomes aware during REM sleep that he/she is paralyzed, this may result in a variety of sleep paralysis symptoms as the person attempts to escape the paralysis.
This temporary failure to escape the sleep paralysis can lead to panic, fear and sometimes sleep hallucinations as one attempts to physically wake up and move his/her body.
Therefore it is during the REM stage of sleep when the brain is extremely active and where sleep paralysis may occur in order to prevent one from physically acting out his/her dreams whilst sleeping.
Sleep paralysis has also been linked to stress, sleep deprivation and irregular sleeping patterns. Therefore reducing one’s stress levels and getting enough sleep is important in reducing sleep paralysis. It is also recommended that you do not sleep on your back as you are most likely to experience paralysis whilst lying on your back.

Spiritual Explanation of Sleep Paralysis
The Bible says that “we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” (Ephesians 6:12-13)
There are different cultures that identify sleep paralysis as having a spiritual or demonic cause.
For example, In Cambodian it’s called “khmaoch sângkât” or “the ghost that pushes you down.”
In Thailand, a ghost called “phi am” haunts people when they are half asleep and unable to move.
And in some traditional Chinese cultures it’s called “meng yan” or “ghost oppression”

The devil is able to spiritually attack people whilst they sleep just as much as when they are awake.
However, Ephesians 6:10-11 says “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.”

If you experience sleep paralysis and you believe the experience to be caused by demons, you can try some of the following things:

1) It is important pray and trust in the Lord to protect you whilst you are sleeping. Therefore meditate on God’s word and pray for God’s protection before you go to bed. 2 Thessalonians 3:3 says “But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.”

2) Call on the name of Jesus Christ during your sleep paralysis. Remember that every knee shall bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord (Philippians 2:10-11).
Jesus Christ has the name above all names and demons are known to tremble at the name of Jesus Christ. In fact, in the scriptures, demons are cast out at the name of Jesus.

3) Do not go to bed with anger or unforgiveness in your heart as the devil can take advantage of your mental stress whilst you sleep. Ephesians 4:26-27 says “Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, 27 and give no opportunity to the devil.”

4) Do not go to bed with any anxieties in your heart. Instead seek God’s peace by giving all your anxieties and worries to God before you go to sleep. Philippians 4:6-7 says “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

5) Put on the whole armor of God in your life. Ephesians 6:13-18 says: “Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication.”

Therefore whilst it is possible that sleep paralysis can be the result of natural or biological causes, it is also possible that the devil may spiritually attack or oppress people under the guise of sleep paralysis.
So where sleep paralysis is believed to be linked specifically to a demonic attack, it is necessary to rely totally on God during any spiritual attack of any kind. God is the One who fights our battles.

Is Freedom of Speech A Biblical Principle?

Freedom of speech is defined as the right to express any opinions without censorship, restraint or fear of retaliation.
Freedom of speech – also known as “freedom of expression” or “free speech” involves the act of seeking, receiving or sharing information through the use of different mediums.

Freedom of speech is internationally recognized as a human right under Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) states the following: Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.

However, what does the Bible say about freedom of speech? Can a person really say whatever they wish to express without any form of censorship or restraint? Should people be free to express anything they want including obscenities, slander or deception and all in the name of freedom of expression?
It is interesting to note that in both the secular worldview and the Biblical worldview of freedom of speech there is the common view that having freedom of speech should not become the freedom to abuse.

The Bible does not specifically prohibit or teach against the principle of freedom of speech. Instead, God’s word gives us principles and guidelines of how we ought to express ourselves and how we should communicate our beliefs and opinions.
Whilst God has given mankind freewill, it is important to note that our freewill must function within the confines and guidelines of God’s word. Therefore in God’s eyes, man does not have the authority to abuse his freewill nor to abuse his freedom of expression.
For example, Galatians 5:13 says: You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love.

The Bible also tells us that we must be “slow to speak” (James 1:19) and that we must control or tame our tongue (James 3:3-12).
Proverbs 18:21 says: Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.

Therefore whilst God has given man freewill and freedom of expression, our speech must always be governed by God’s Biblical principles and guidelines, such as the following:

1. We Must Avoid Malicious & Obscene Talk or Expressions
Colossians 3:8-9 says: But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices
Therefore Biblically our freedom of expression must not include lies, deception, malice, anger or obscenities in language

2. Our Speech Must Seek to Build and Not Destroy
Ephesians 4:29 says: Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.
Speaking the right words can build and encourage others. However speaking lies or any kind of deceptive talk can eventually corrupt or destroy people.
Therefore our speech must always have the intention or motive of edifying and helping others rather than destroying them.

3. We Must Speak The Truth In Love
God desires that we speak the truth and that we express the truth with a loving attitude.
Ephesians 4:15 says: Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ
It’s important to note that speaking the truth is not always welcomed with open arms especially by people who are living in deception or by anyone who has something to gain through the deception of others.
2 Timothy 3:7-8 speaks of men who “oppose the truth” or of people who are “always learning but never able to arrive to a knowledge of the truth”
Therefore speaking the truth in love does not always mean that one will not face opposition to the truth. In fact, many people in the Bible, including Jesus, were persecuted for speaking the truth or for defending truthful principles. The same situations occur in Christianity today.

4. Our Freedom of Expression Must Glorify Jesus Christ
Our speech and our deeds must glorify God or bring people to the knowledge of the nature and character of Jesus Christ.
Colossians 3:17 says the following: And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. [Emphasis Added]
People must know more about the nature of God by the way we speak and interact with others. Ultimately the way we conduct ourselves in word or deed must become a testimony that points others to seeing the nature and character of Jesus Christ in our lives.

Even when we pray – the Lord does not prohibit us from freely expressing ourselves in relation to our thoughts, feelings and emotions. Prayer is communication with God. Through prayer, God allows us to freely express our thoughts, ideas, opinions, desires and issues to Him.
God also already knows what is in our hearts and He knows what we need even before we speak it (Matthew 6:8).
However, even as we pray, our freedom of expression towards God must be honest, sincere and respectful. Our communication with God must reflect and express humility and reverence towards God.

Therefore the Bible does not prohibit people from expressing themselves. Biblically our freedom of speech requires a form of godly wisdom and and at times there must be godly restraint. Therefore our freedom of expression must be governed by Biblical guidelines and principles.

What Does The Bible Say About Dating & Courtship?

The words “dating” or “courtship” are not found in the Bible. However, practically if any person desires to seek a meaningful and loving relationship with the opposite sex, then a form of dating or courtship is necessary. The decision to choose a spouse cannot be made instantly or irrationally. Choosing a future husband or future wife is one of the most important life decisions that anyone can ever make.

Dating is meant to seek out someone who you think could be a potential spouse. It is an activity of discovering each other’s personalities and background and there is no commitment to marriage.
The person you are dating might be the right person or he/she might actually be the wrong person for you. However, the aim of dating is to find out whether the person you like could become more than just a friend, but potentially be the one whom you could spend the rest of your life with.

Courtship however is more serious and reflects more commitment than dating. Courtship is meant to show the one you love that he/she is your true love and you have the genuine intention to marry. Courtship reveals that you have found the one whom you want to spend the rest of your life with and you are making practical life steps to get married to that person in the future.

Dating & Courtship Must Be Biblical
It is important to understand that the way the world views dating and courtship is totally different from how Christians should view dating or courtship.
Romans 12:2 says that we should not be conformed to the standards or patterns of this world.
Therefore the world may believe in ungodly principles such as premarital sex or adultery. The world may also believe in dating or courting more than one person at the same time.
However, the Christian / Biblical principles regarding dating or courtship are opposite to the standards of the world.
Therefore during courtship or dating, it is important that a couple abstain from sex until they are married. There are many verses in the Bible that declare sex before marriage to be a sin. For example, Galatians 5:19, Ephesians 5:3, Mark 7:21 and Colossians 3:5.

1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 says: For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; 4 that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, 5 not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God;
Therefore sex was created by God in order to be enjoyed only within the confines of marriage and Christians are not to follow the path of the world.

One should date or court a person who is genuinely single and not married. It is adultery for a married person to be in a “courtship” or “dating” relationship with a person who is not his/her spouse (Deuteronomy 5:18).
God says that we should not covet or desire another man’s spouse (Deuteronomy 5:21).
Therefore courtship and dating must be among two people who are genuinely single.

A Christian must date or court another Christian believer. There is a principle reflected within the scriptures that Christians should avoid getting married to people who are unbelievers in order to avoid being corrupted or deceived by a partner who does not believe in the Christian faith.
2 Corinthians 6:14 says: Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?
1 Corinthians 15:33 says “Do not be misled: ‘Bad company corrupts good character”.
Therefore when a Christian dates or courts a non-Christian, this could eventually lead to future problems within the relationship or marriage due to a difference of values and beliefs.

Involve God Regarding Dating & Courtship
Biblical dating and courtship requires godly wisdom. It is important to always be prayerful and involve God in every relationship decision that you make. Without God it can be impossible to make the right decisions regarding specifically who you should or should not marry.
Proverbs 16:1 says “To man belong the plans of the heart, but from the Lord comes the reply of the tongue”.
Proverbs 16:3 says “Commit to the Lord whatever you do and your plans will succeed”.
Therefore God is able to choose the right person for you to marry but it is important that we trust Him and involve Him in all of our plans and decision making.
Furthermore, our commitment to loving God is very crucial and important in our life. We must love God more than we love others (Matthew 10:37).
When we love God above others, then we will learn to love others with the love of God and we will live our life according to God’s principles and values. Jesus said that if we love Him, then we will obey His commandments (John 14:15).
Therefore courtship and dating must be Biblical because we are motivated by the love of God.

Should Christians Evangelize Atheists?

Atheism is the belief that God or gods do not exist. An atheist is therefore one who does not believe that the universe and all of creation are the result of intelligent design or a supernatural Being.
Many atheists will also provide arguments and theories such as evolution or the Big Bang as evidence to the world that God or gods cannot possibly exist.

For many years, atheism has been growing in almost every continent around the world. China is known to have the most atheists in the world, then Europe, the Americas and finally Africa. The growth in the atheist demographic has been due to the influence of evolution education and various scientific researches which are ironically conducted by other atheists. The theory of evolution is taught at a young age and many evolutionist theories are propagated as truth and fact despite their inconsistencies and irrationalities. Ultimately, the more evolution is embraced, the more religion becomes unpopular.

The Bible tells us that creation itself, such as the stars, the planets, the animals, the plants and all forms of life is evidence that a Creator exists. The existence of life as well as the nature and order of the universe testify to the existence of an intelligent Designer.
Romans 1:20 says: “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities — His eternal power and divine nature — have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.”

However atheists will not submit to the rational belief that the universe did not create itself from nothing. Many atheists will not admit the fact that intelligent design exists.
Instead, atheists will seek to educate and defend atheism and every scientific theory or research that supports their belief and argument that God does not exist.

Therefore atheism is an anti-God concept. It is a concept which the devil has created to deceive people, but it is also a concept that even the devil himself does not believe.

Psalms 14:1 says “The fool says in his heart ‘There is no God’…”
Therefore whilst atheism is a foolish concept, because it believes that creation does not have a creator – atheism is still a dangerous concept because of its arguments, its deception and its continued growth.

Should Christians Evangelize Atheists?
Atheism is one of the most extreme expressions of man’s rebellion against God. It also expresses man’s desire to totally live without God.
Atheism exists because of a fallen world. Man is sinful by nature. Man is not born good but instead he is born a sinner (Romans 3:10,23).
As sinners we have an inbuilt nature to rebel against God and to contradict the things of God. The theories of evolution and the Big Bang contradict the Biblical account of creation and provide the deceptive argument that life and the universe existed from nothing, instead of God.

God desires that Christians unashamedly evangelize anyone who is spiritually lost and has not believed in the gospel (Romans 1:16).
Christians are required to evangelize the atheist just as much as they should evangelize to a witchdoctor, a Buddhist, a prostitute, a cultist, a Greek, a Jew, or any person who has not accepted Jesus Christ as Lord & Saviour.
Mark 16:15 says we are to “proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.”
Therefore there is no created human being who should be excluded from hearing the gospel of Jesus Christ or excluded from understanding the divine character and nature of God. If we are all sinners, then all are in need of the gospel and therefore all need a saving relationship with God.
Jesus Christ was crucified for the entire world, including atheists, so that whoever believes in Christ will not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16).
God is patient toward everyone, including the atheist and He does not want anyone to perish (2 Peter 3:9).

Ultimately as every Christian shares the gospel with people, whether they are atheist or not, it is the duty alone of the Holy Spirit to bring conviction of sin and to convert the sinner as the gospel / word of God is shared (John 16:8, Romans 1:16).

Whilst most atheists are prone to argue, debate or ferociously defend his/her atheism, this should not deter Christians from sharing the word of God to people who oppose the scriptures. If anyone is willfully living in rebellion to God (whether atheist or not), then that person must graciously and lovingly be given the gospel of Christ and make an informed spiritual choice whether to accept God or not.
Jesus Himself constantly encountered people who opposed God’s word but yet He continued to focus on sharing and defending God’s word to anyone who would be willing to listen.
According to the Scriptures, Christians should be able to defend and contend for the Christian faith (Jude 1:3; 1 Peter 3:15).
It is therefore important for every Christian to seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit when engaging with atheists or anyone who has beliefs which are contrary to Christianity.
Many testimonies exist from former atheists of how they eventually converted to Christianity through the faithfulness and obedience of those Christians who unashamedly share the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Does God Still Perform Miracles Today?

Does God still work miracles today in our modern age? For example, is there still evidence around the world that God does the supernatural work of healing the sick, healing the blind or even raising the dead like what happened in the Bible?
What we do know from the Bible itself is that God does not change. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. Therefore, whatever miracles He did in the past, He can certainly do them in the present and also in the future.
The nature of God is such that He cannot be put inside a box. God is not limited in His ability to do any miraculous work in the life of people. Therefore God can choose to work miraculously in anyone and at any time according to His divine sovereign will.

Therefore even in our present age, there is evidence of God working miraculously in the lives of people. God still heals; God still gives spiritual gifts to men and He is able to perform any miraculous sign that will ultimately serve His purpose and give glory to Him alone.

However, we must not be a generation that seeks only after miracles. The Jews were a people who would always seek a sign. Yet the irony is that even though God performed many signs and wonders for the Israelites, the Jews had unbelief in their heart towards God.

Numbers 14:11
Then the Lord said to Moses: “How long will these people reject Me? And how long will they not believe Me, with all the signs which I have performed among them?”

John 12:37
Though He had done so many signs before them, they still did not believe in Him.

Therefore, signs and wonders do not guarantee a change of heart. Miracles do not always convert a person to genuinely follow after God.
Our genuine pursuit should be after God Himself and not after the miracles. We should seek a relationship with God rather than to seek after signs and wonders.

False Miracles By False Prophets
The Bible also warns us that even in our present age, there will be false prophets who will perform false miracles in order to deceive people.
Jesus says in Matthew 24:24-25: “For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect. 25 See, I have told you beforehand.”
It’s therefore important to realize that even the devil can perform spiritual or physical signs and wonders, but with the specific intention of deceiving people.
In the Book of Acts, people were deceived by Simon the Magician as they believed that he had the power of God but yet he performed signs and wonders through sorcery and magic (Acts 8:9-11).
It is therefore important to spiritually discern whether the miracles that are performed in our present day are really from God or not.
Whilst God may still work miracles today, we must note that the devil has his own people who like Pharaoh’s magicians, are able to imitate and create signs and wonders in order to lead people astray (Exodus 7:20-23).

What Is The Greatest Miracle?
The greatest miracle is that of salvation through Jesus Christ. Conversion to Christ is such a miracle that Jesus Himself said that there is joy in Heaven over one sinner who repents (Luke 15:7).
The conversion of a soul to Christ is more important to God than any miracle He has ever performed because it is the very reason why Jesus came to be crucified on earth (John 3:16).
Christ was crucified so that man may experience the miracle of being spiritually brought from death to life (Ephesians 2:1-9). Christ was crucified so that we may become a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17).
In John 5:24, Jesus says: “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.”
The greatest miracle is to have the Holy Spirit residing in us and having Him work through us for the glory of Jesus Christ.

If you have never received the miracle of salvation, you can do so today. Jesus said that we must be born again if we are to enter the kingdom of God (John 3:3). So in order to be saved, we must become a follower of Jesus Christ through placing our total faith and trust in Christ as our Lord and Saviour.
It is only Jesus Christ who can save us and eternally reconcile us with God.

DO YOU WANT TO BE A CHRISTIAN or A FOLLOWER OF JESUS CHRIST???

1. ACKNOWLEDGE: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
This means that we have all broken God’s laws and God’s 10 Commandments like those mentioned in Exodus 20:1-17. For example, if you have told a lie; if you have stolen something; if you have lusted after somebody or if you have coveted. This means you are guilty of breaking at least one or more of God’s 10 Commandments. Breaking God’s commandments makes us sinners. The fact that we are sinners who have broken God’s law means that we are accountable to God who is the Lawgiver. Romans 6:23 says that “the wages of sin is death BUT the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”
You must acknowledge that you are a sinner who has broken God’s commandments and that you therefore need Jesus in your life.

2. REPENT: “Unless you repent you will all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3), “Repent therefore and be converted that your sins may be blotted out” (Acts 3:19)

What Does The Bible Say About Narcissism?

Narcissism is a psychological term used to describe the condition where a person has an abnormal and frequent preoccupation with himself / herself.
The term Narcissism originates from Greek mythology where a man by the name of Narcissus fell in love with his own image reflected in a pool or spring of water.
The root of narcissistic behaviour is pride, selfishness and a deep-rooted desire to be admired.
Since all of mankind is sinful by nature (Romans 3:23), it is true to say that every person who lives according to the flesh / sinful nature is capable of exhibiting narcissistic tendencies from time to time.

The Signs & Effects of Narcissism
The scripture in the Bible which best describes narcissism and the effects of narcissistic behaviour is 2 Timothy 3:1-5 which says the following:
But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. 2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, 4 treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.

Therefore based on 2 Timothy 3:1-5 many narcissists will develop several of the following signs:

  • They have a grandiose sense of self-importance. They project themselves to be more important or superior than others
  • They have a sense of entitlement and they are materialistic
  • They exploit others without guilt, shame or remorse
  • They have difficulty with genuine love or empathy for others
  • They are in love with their own sense of success and achievements
  • They seek admiration from others
  • They do not take criticism very well and are likely to dislike anyone who criticizes them or who does not admire them
  • They have problems in sustaining satisfying or genuine relationships
  • They frequently demean, intimidate, bully or belittle others in order to make themselves feel superior or better than other people
  • They live in a reality or fantasy that supports their pride or conceited lifestyle
  • As a defence mechanism, they project their own faults and failures on others
  • Ultimately they live for themselves and to satisfy their own personal desires at any cost

What The Bible Says About Narcissism
Pride is one of the most dangerous traits for a person to have. Satan himself was corrupted because he had pride (Isaiah 14:13-14).
It is also evident from the scriptures that God hates pride. Proverbs 16:5 says: “Everyone who is arrogant in heart is an abomination to the Lord; be assured, he will not go unpunished”.
Proverbs 8:13 says: “The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil. Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I hate.”

Ultimately we cannot approach God with a spirit of pride in our heart. We cannot receive the things of God, when we are controlled by pride or any narcissistic attitude.
If we are to genuinely receive Christ and God’s word, we must be willing to be humble and understand that we are sinners who are depraved.

Therefore narcissism exists because of the sinful nature that is inherited in mankind. The only way to overcome narcissistic behavior in our life is through Jesus Christ and having the mind and humility of Christ.
It is only when we receive Jesus Christ as Lord & Saviour, that the Holy Spirit will give us the strength and ability to walk in humility and overcome any attitude of the flesh – including narcissism.

Galatians 5:16 says: But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
Galatians 5:24-26 says: And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

The Bible says that we are to clothe ourselves with humility toward one another (1 Peter 5:5-6).
Philippians 2:3-4 says: Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
Philippians 2:5-8 further says that we are to have the mind of Christ and to imitate His attitude of humility in our life.

Ultimately, it is only when we receive Jesus Christ as Lord & Saviour, then we can overcome the problem of narcissism in our own life as we yield and submit the to the Holy Spirit.

What is the Real Meaning of Christmas?

The real meaning of Christmas is about 3 issues – love, purpose and salvation.
Beyond the Christmas gifts and all the commercialization that comes with the Christmas holidays, there is the life changing story of God’s love for the world such that He became flesh in order to save the world from sin and condemnation.
The Christmas story is more than just the birth of Jesus Christ. The Christmas story is about God’s love, God’s purpose and God’s salvation for mankind.

Christmas is About the Love of God
John 3:16For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.
God was motivated by His love for mankind to give His begotten Son to be crucified as payment for our sins. The truth is: we are all sinners before a just and holy God.
Romans 3:23 says “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”.
Romans 6:23 says the consequences or “the wages of sin is death” which is spiritual separation from God.
As mankind, we cannot pay for our own sins by our own merit or effort. Isaiah 64:6 says “All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.”
However, even though we are sinners, the Bible says that God still loves us and that He loves us enough to save us from the consequences of sin.
Romans 5:8 says “But God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
So we celebrate Christmas because during the Christmas season, we are reminded of the unconditional love of God and the motivation for why God sent Jesus to come into this world.

Christmas is About the Purpose of Jesus Christ
John 3:17For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him.
Christmas reminds us that Christ was born with a specific purpose. John 1:14 says that the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.
The purpose of God sending Jesus into the world was not to condemn the world, but that mankind might be saved through Christ.
The Christmas season is a reminder that Jesus Christ came to fulfill God’s plan of salvation.
Matthew 1:20-21But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will bear a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”
Therefore according to Matthew 1:21, Jesus the purpose of the birth of Jesus was that He may save His people from their sins.
So Christmas reminds us that the world needs a Saviour and this Saviour is Jesus Christ.

Christmas is About Jesus Being the Only Way to Salvation
John 14:6Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
Christmas reminds us of the uniqueness of Jesus Christ and what He did for the world. Jesus was without sin; He is God / the Word who became flesh (1 Timothy 3:17) and it is only because of the blood of Jesus Christ which He shed on the cross that mankind can be saved.
Ephesians 1:7 says “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace”
Christmas should remind us that only Christ’s blood and sacrifice was sufficient to pay for our sins. Therefore our salvation is not through anyone else or through anything else except through the Person of Jesus Christ alone (Acts 4:12).
It is only through Jesus Christ that we can be reconciled to God and it is only through Christ alone that we can enter Heaven. Christ alone is our mediator (1 Timothy 2:5).

What is Universalism / Universal Salvation?

Universalism or universal salvation is the belief that all mankind will eventually be saved. It is the belief that every human soul will ultimately go to Heaven irrespective of his/her beliefs or religion.
Universalists argue that a loving and merciful God will never condemn people to eternal punishment in hell. Therefore they believe that God is able to use all faiths and all religions to eventually reconcile every individual to Himself and to Heaven because God is so loving and so merciful that He cannot bear to punish His own creation for eternity.

Universalism is unbiblical and should be rejected as it creates a false concept of the nature of God and it is a direct attack on the gospel of Jesus Christ.

1. Universalism Creates A False Concept of Sin and its Consequences
Universalism minimizes the effects of sin on mankind and the eternal consequences of sin. If all people will eventually end up in Heaven then it means that people are no longer accountable to God for their sins.
Universalism indirectly promotes the philosophy that God will not hold any person accountable for his/her sinful actions. If Universalism is true then one can presume that wicked and unrepentant people such as Hitler or Stalin are in now in Heaven.
The Bible however clearly tells us that sin has consequences. Romans 6:23 says that “the wages of sin is death”. This death that is mentioned in this scripture speaks of eternal separation from God. Therefore it is saying that the consequence of sin is eternal punishment.
1 Corinthians 6:9-10 also tells us that the consequence of sinful living is that a person will not inherit the kingdom of God.
It’s therefore clear from these scriptures and many others that God takes sin seriously and that sinful living has serious and eternal consequences.

2. Universalism Creates A False Concept of the Purpose of the Cross
Jesus Christ died on the cross because of the existence of sin in the world. Our sins brought Christ to the cross so that He would be crucified for our sake.
If the doctrine of Universalism were true, then it would mean that Jesus Christ would not have to come and be crucified on the cross for the sins of mankind. It presumes that Christ’s finished work on the cross is not relevant.
Universalism therefore attacks the gospel and the purpose of why Christ came to die for our sins.
Isaiah 53:5 says “But He was wounded for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities; upon Him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed.”
God demands justice because of sin. Mankind is unable to pay for his own sins, therefore Jesus Christ paid for our sins on the cross (Matthew 20:28).
Ephesians 1:7 says that “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace”.

3. Universalism Creates A False Concept of the True Nature of God
Indeed God is merciful; God is loving and God is gracious. However God is also just and holy.
This means that God demands justice for sin. God also holy such that He cannot ever tolerate sin or turn a blind eye towards sin.
Universalists fall into the deception of believing that God’s love and grace tolerates sin and that ultimately God’s love will override the consequence of sin.
However John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world, that He gave his only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”
It was God’s love for the world that also sent Jesus to the cross. However, it is only when we believe and accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour that we will have eternal life. According to John 3:16, the consequence of not believing in Jesus Christ is that we will perish.
John 3:18 says “Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because He has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.”
Therefore according to John 3:18, anyone who does not believe in Jesus Christ is currently under condemnation until such a time when that person believes in Jesus Christ, then he/she is no longer condemned (Romans 8:1).
Therefore whilst God is loving, He still demands justice. Jesus Christ paid for our sins; He was crucified in our place; He paid the debt for sin we could not pay. So when we receive Christ as Lord and Saviour we avoid eternal punishment and we are reconciled to a right relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
However, when a person does not accept the finished work of Christ on the cross, then that person will experience the full justice, wrath and condemnation of God because he/she has rejected Jesus Christ (Romans 1:18; Colossians 3:5-6).

4. Universalism Rejects Jesus Christ As The Only Way to Heaven
Universalism ultimately rejects Jesus Christ as being the only means by whom we can eternally reconcile with God. Therefore Universalists will reject Jesus Christ as being God’s only mediator between God and man (1 Timothy 2:5).
In John 14:6 Jesus said “I am the way, and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
Acts 4:12 says that salvation is found in no one else under heaven except by Jesus Christ.
However, universalism promotes the belief that there are many paths which lead to God and to heaven. Universalism promotes the belief that a person can reconcile with God by his/her own merit and not through Christ alone.
Ephesians 2:8-9 says we are saved by grace through faith in Christ and not by our own works or merit.

Conclusion
Universalism is therefore an unbiblical belief. Universalists are generally more likely to believe or promote the idea that all religions can “coexist” or that all religions can unite as one.
However, the scriptures are clear that Jesus Christ alone is the only way by which mankind can be saved.
The Bible is very clear that hell exists and that tragically there are many people who will face eternal punishment (Revelation 21:8; Revelation 20:15; Matthew 25:46).
In Matthew 7:13 Jesus says: “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.”
Jesus Christ is the narrow gate. He alone is the only way to reconcile with God and He alone is the Lord and Saviour for all of mankind.
