How Can We Have The Mind of God?

How can we have the mind of God? How can we think with God in relation to our life and situations?
In Isaiah 55:8-9 it says “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.”

Therefore in our practical life, we need to know God’s mind; God’s values; God’s principles and God’s viewpoint as we walk with Him.

Post - mindGod
Below are 5 practical methods in which we can know and have the mind of God in our life:

(1) We Must Meditate & Think According to What GOD has Written in His word.
In Matthew 4:4, Jesus says “… Man shall live on EVERY WORD that proceeds from the MOUTH of God”
Therefore we DO NOT live according to every word that proceeds from the mouth of men – but we live according to every word that proceeds FROM GOD.
Man is flawed; man makes mistakes; man cannot know everything; man cannot be trusted; man does not always keep his promises. Therefore living according to the teachings and words of man instead of God can be very dangerous. Romans 3:4 says “… Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar…”
Therefore, God is always true; always faithful; always correct; He is all-knowing; He cannot lie and His word is perfect.
For us to have His mind, we must meditate on His perfect word found in the Bible.

(2) We Must Define Words, Principles, Values & Reality According to how God Defines Them
Acts 20:30 says “Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking PERVERSE things, to draw away the disciples after themselves”.
The word PERVERSE is the Greek word [diastrepho] meaning “to distort; to turn aside from the right path”
Therefore be careful of men who distort God’s words or distort God’s principles & God’s defined way of how we should think. Acts 20:30 says that such distorters will actually come from among the church and that they will distort meanings of scripture and offer different ideas and concepts that oppose how God actually thinks.
It’s therefore important to guard ourselves against false doctrines and doctrines of demons. Understanding the word of God and having the ability to discern enables us to walk in the mind of God.

(3) Yield to the Leading of the Holy Spirit
1 Corinthians 2:11 says “For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God”.
Therefore, you CANNOT know the things of God unless the Holy Spirit is in you. The Holy Spirit reveals to us the mind of God. The Holy Spirit reveals and guides us to all truth.
John 16:13 says “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.”
Therefore, in our own life we must allow ourselves to be continuously filled and led by the Holy Spirit. We must bear fruit and make decisions under the leading of the Spirit of God. Being led by the Holy Spirit reveals that we indeed have the mind of God.

(4) Be Fair-Minded As The Bereans
The Bereans were “more FAIR MINDED”. The Bereans wanted the mind of God and NOT the mind of men.
They studied the Scriptures for themselves & they did not just take up any kind of teachings without first searching & studying the scriptures themselves.
Acts 17:11 says “These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so”.
Whenever we hear preaching messages or teachings from preachers, we should live by the example of the Bereans.
They made sure to fact-check what they heard against the Scriptures. They always put the word of God above what they heard from men. They knew that the authority of the word of God was above the authority of men. They did not want to be deceived. This is one of the reasons why they were fair minded and searched the Scriptures.
God does not want us to be deceived. Therefore, God wants us to test everything. 1 Thessalonians 5:21 says “Test all things; hold fast what is good”.

(5) To Have The Mind of God You Must Be Born Again.
You cannot truly think with God unless you have the mind of Christ. Philippians 2:5 says “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus”
Being born again gives us access to the mind of God. Christians have personal fellowship and communion with God. Therefore we cannot know God’s mind unless we have fellowship with Him.
Becoming a Christian is the beginning of our journey to understanding God’s mind for our lives; our walk with Him and our relationships.
In John 15:5, Jesus says “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing”.

DO YOU HAVE THE MIND OF GOD? DO YOU KNOW GOD’S MIND ABOUT THE VARIOUS AREAS OF YOUR LIFE? ARE YOU A BORN AGAIN CHRISTIAN?

DO YOU WANT TO BE A CHRISTIAN or A FOLLOWER OF JESUS CHRIST???

1. ACKNOWLEDGE: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). “God be merciful to me a sinner” (Luke 18:13).
You must acknowledge that you are a sinner and that you therefore need Jesus in your life.

2. REPENT: “Unless you repent you will all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3), “Repent therefore and be converted that your sins may be blotted out” (Acts 3:19)
Repenting means: to change your mind; a sincere turning away, in heart, mind and action;
Therefore God wants you to repent of sinful values and of sinful living. God wants you to decide to
follow Him and to make Jesus the Lord of your life.

3. CONFESSION: “If we confess our sins. He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9)
God is a forgiving God. God will forgive any sin that you have done because Jesus died for ALL your sins and to set you free from the bondage of all types of sin in your life.

4. BELIEVE: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
You must believe that ONLY Jesus can save you and restore your relationship with God. You must believe that Jesus is the ONLY way by which you can have everlasting life and escape from eternal separation from God. You must believe that Jesus died on the cross for you and resurrected from the grave.
“He came to His own, and His own did not receive him, But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name” (John 1:11-12)
By faith, You must receive Jesus as Your Lord & Savior and therefore; you become a child of God; you become born again; you become a Christian; you restore your broken relationship with God

Who Created God?

“Dad, who made God?”. That’s a question my young 9 year old daughter once asked me.
I’m sure if you’re like me, whether you’re a Christian or skeptic, you must have asked yourself or somebody else that same question.
We sort of look at everything in existence around us and we know without a doubt that the cellphone we use, the car we drive or the home we live in all have their maker. And therefore, if we believe that God made the trees, the animals, the earth, the universe and us as humans – then who made God?

The answer to this question is this: NOBODY created God; God was NEVER made because God is ETERNAL and He therefore has ALWAYS existed. He is the UNCREATED Creator.

Why and How Is God UNCREATED?
God does not fall under the CATEGORY of created beings. To ask who created God would be the same as asking the following questions for example: “Can trees walk?” or “Can pigs fly?”
If these questions sound absurd or ridiculous it’s because we know without a doubt through personal knowledge & understanding that trees DON’T fall under the category of creation that walks and pigs DON’T fall under the category of animals that fly.
Therefore in relation to God and the things of God we must have a personal understanding and knowledge of what are some of the factors that make or categorize God as being – GOD.

These factors are the following:

1. God is Eternal
God has no beginning and He has no end. Everything that is in existence began with God and everything will end with God. (Isaiah 44:6 ESV – Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts: “I am the first and I am the last; besides Me there is no god.”).
NOBODY came or existed BEFORE GOD. According to Isaiah 44:6 we learn that God is first & last; He is eternal and there is no other God besides Him or before Him or who will come AFTER Him.
Therefore to suggest that somebody else made God, would raise the question of WHO made the person that made God; and WHO made the person, that made the person that made God? And the questions will go on and on and on and on…
However, God is clear in telling us through scripture that He is eternal and NO OTHER God came before Him and NO OTHER God will come after Him.
Revelation 22:13 ESV – I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.
John 8:58 ESV – Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”

2. God as Creator of Time, exists OUTSIDE of time.
God is not limited or subject to time as we understand it. He is eternal. He has no beginning and he has no end.
Before God’s creation plan, time did not exist at all. Time actually began to exist only during the First Day of creation when God began the creation process – (Genesis 1:5 “…And there was evening and there was morning, the FIRST DAY”).
Therefore, if our bodies age; if our assets physically depreciate; it’s because we are subject to time; we live INSIDE of time. God does not age and will always be immortal because He is not bound by time because He exists outside of time.
Genesis 1:1-5 ESV – In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. 3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.

3. Most Scientists Agree That The Universe Had a Beginning
While people may differ on precisely how or when the universe actually began, there is a general agreement that the universe did not always exist but that the universe had a starting point or a beginning. If you’re an Atheist or Skeptic you’re likely to believe in the Big Bang theory and the argument that there is no God or intelligent design that was involved in the creation process.
However, if you’re a Christian you will believe that the universe began according to Genesis Chapter 1. Therefore, if the universe had a beginning (as agreed by both Christians & skeptics) then there must have been a specific cause or intelligent Being that started it. Because nothing CANNOT make something. Skeptics & Christians differ on what this cause is, however the Bible is clear in Genesis Chapter 1 and Job 38 that God is the cause of creation.
Read Genesis Chapter 1
Read Job Chapter 38

4. We CANNOT Know EVERYTHING About God but We Must SEEK Him & Have FAITH In Him.
Our minds are limited. Our abilities are limited. Therefore our knowledge and understanding are limited. As people, at least as long as we are on this earth, we will never know EVERYTHING there is to know about God. Even the skeptics and science experts who deny the existence of God do not know everything which is why they continue to study, experiment, theorize, and hypothesize.
However, God has provided us with what we NEED to know and what is NECESSARY for us to know and understand for this life in relation to Him through the Bible and through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. (John 17:3 ESV – And this is eternal life, that they know You the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.)
There are some questions in life whether about God or other things that we might not receive an answer from in this lifetime and might remain a mystery to us whilst we are on this earth.
However in all things we MUST CONTINUE TO STRIVE & TO SEEK GOD AT ALL TIMES and to never lean on our own understanding, but to TRUST and have FAITH in Him and in our lives.
Hebrews 11:6 ESV – And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
Isaiah 55:8-9 ESV – For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Proverbs 3:5 ESV – Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.

Summary
So who created God? NOBODY created God. God has ALWAYS existed. God is the uncreated Creator.
1 Timothy 1:17 ESV – To the King of ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

Myths About Christianity

When we look at ourselves, other people, societies or even God, we all sometimes form our own perceptions and views. However our personal perceptions are never always correct / accurate especially when our perception is compared with the real truth. Myths or false perceptions can sometimes be very dangerous. For example, for centuries there have been many myths about Christianity which have existed, to the extent that these myths or false perceptions have caused people to take extreme measures against Christians through acts of persecuting & killing of many Christians. Below is an attempt to look at a few of the myths about Christians & Christianity and to address what the Bible actually says about such myths.

MYTH 1: A Person Becomes A Christian Due To Certain Affiliations

A person does not automatically become a Christian just because he was born in a church-going family. Neither is being baptized as a baby or being born in a Christian country or having a Christian name automatically make one a Biblical born again Christian. Being part of a particular church denomination or church affiliation does not automatically make a person a Christian.
John 1:12-13 ESVBut to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
John 3:3-7 ESVJesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”  4 Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” 5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.  6  That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.   7  Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’

MYTH 2: A Christian Is Saved By His Personal Ability & Effort. If Our Personal Good Works Outweigh Our Bad Works We Will Go To Heaven
Every person is a sinner in God’s eyes. According to God there is nobody who is righteous before Him (Romans 3:10As it is written: None is righteous, no, not one) and (Romans 3:23For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God) Therefore because of our sins and because we are sinners we cannot save ourselves from God’s punishment. We instead need a Saviour to save us from God’s eternal punishment. That Saviour is Jesus Christ. Therefore Christians are not saved by personal effort or by intelligent ability, but Christians are saved because of the what Jesus did for the world on the cross through God’s love and grace.
Ephesians 2:8-9 ESVFor by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9  not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
John 3:16-17 ESVFor God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.  17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him.

MYTH 3: The Christian Life Is About Health, Wealth & Luxuries
The continued rise of the false teachings of the prosperity gospel and word of faith movement have attempted to distort the real meaning and essence of true Biblical Christianity and what is means to be a Biblical born again Christian. Many times Jesus spoke against the pursuit of monetary riches and instead encouraged His followers to seek God’s kingdom first and to seek after the things in Heaven which do not perish. Jesus also told His followers that they should be prepared to forsake every worldly pleasure or desire and take up their cross and follow Him. Therefore having money or various forms of assets and luxuries is not an indication of whether a person is a Christian or of their spiritual faith and maturity.
Luke 12:15-21 NKJVAnd He said to them, “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.”
Matthew 6:24 ESVNo one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
Matthew 6:19-21 ESVDo not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal,  20  but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.  21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also

MYTH 4: The Christian Life Is Easy, Happy-Clappy & Free From Serious Problems & Challenges
A person’s problems do not end when he/she becomes a Christian. However, through Christ these problems can be overcome and Christ is able to still give you strength, peace and joy even in the midst of a bad situation. (John 16:33 ESVI have said these things to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world).
It’s important to note that God’s people throughout scripture, throughout history and even in this present day continue to face problems, challenges and persecutions because of their Christian faith and belief in God. Therefore Christians are not exempt from tribulation and the Christian walk is challenging but it is nevertheless worthwhile because of its eternal benefits in Christ Jesus.
Matthew 7:13-14 ESVEnter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many.  14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.
John 15:18-21 ESVIf the world hates you, know that it has hated Me before it hated you.  19  If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.  20 Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will also keep yours.  21 But all these things they will do to you on account of My name, because they do not know Him who sent Me.
James 1:2-4 ESVCount it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, 3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

MYTH 5: Christianity Is About Following A Set Of Rules or Do’s & Don’ts
Christianity is a lifestyle. It is a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. It is a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. It is a loving relationship between God and man. Christianity is more than following a rule book. The Bible is not just a rule book. It is God’s word; God’s story; God’s message to anyone who is willing to listen, learn and obey (2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESVAll Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work).
John 14:6-7 ESVJesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.  7  If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
John 14:23-24 ESVJesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.  24 Whoever does not love me does not keep my words. And the word that you hear is not mine but the Father’s who sent me.
John 15:13-17 ESVGreater love has no one than this, that someone lays down his life for his friends.  14 You are my friends if you do what I command you.  15  No longer do I call you servants, for the servant  does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.  16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.  17 These things I command you, so that you will love one another.

MYTH 6: Christianity Is Out of Touch & Out of Date With The Modern World
The argument is that Christians cling to a set of values that date back more than 2000 years ago and that such old values do not apply to modern 21st century thinking and culture. The rise of liberal thinking and gay rights for example are a few examples which are used to demonstrate that while the world is changing and tolerant, the Christian faith remains out of touch and intolerant on many moral issues. The truth is – God does not change and God’s moral values do not change. God’s word and values apply to any year; any century and any lifetime.
Romans 12:2 ESVDo not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Hebrews 13:8-9 ESVJesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. FI-B-myth
MYTH 7: The Christian Faith Is Oppressive To People’s Freedoms
God’s word and values are never meant to bring about oppression and bondage. In fact, it is a life of sin that will eventually bring bondage and condemnation to one’s life. The truth of God’s word is however meant to set you free from sin through Christ Jesus. God is able to set people free from the bondages of depression, drug addiction, porn addiction, hatred, jealousy and all sorts of sins that we have difficulty overcoming. When you have a relationship with God, you will find fulfillment, direction and meaning to your life.
John 8:31-32 ESVSo Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples,  32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
John 8:36 ESVSo if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
John 10:10 ESVThe thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

MYTH 8: Christianity Is A Kill-Joy
The perception is that if a person becomes a Christian, he/she will no longer have to enjoy life because Christianity is perceived as having a set of rules which will kill the joy and fun out of life. So is Christianity a killjoy? Well the answer depends with what kind of things or activities you perceive as fun and joy. If your idea of a good time is getting drunk; taking drugs; fornicating; watching pornography and the like, then such activities do not agree with the Christian lifestyle. However, non of these activities can be considered to bring about true lasting and meaningful happiness and joy. Such activities are a temporary high which only feed the flesh but never constructively build you as a person. Such activities are what the Bible calls “the pleasures of sin”. Sin indeed is pleasurable but only for a short while and with very devastating consequences in the long term. While Christianity teaches us to subdue our fleshly desires, Christianity however offers true joy found through Christ and it offers a meaningful life when you have a relationship with God your Creator.
Romans 8:5-8 ESVFor those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. 6 To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. 7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. 8 Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
Galatians 5:16-24 ESVBut I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23  gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

MYTH 9: Christians Dislike Anybody Who Disagrees With Them
Christians have been accused of being homophobic, anti-abortion and the like. The truth is real Christians are not taught to hate anybody. Christians are commanded to love their neighbor (Matthew 22:37-40 ESVAnd he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.  38 This is the great and first commandment.  39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself). However, this does not mean that a Christian must be tolerant of a person’s sin or sinful lifestyle. In fact, it is out of love that a Christian speaks against homosexuality or abortion for example. Christians are taught to love the sinner but hate the sin.
Romans 12:9 ESV Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good
2 Timothy 4:2-5 ESVPreach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. 3  For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, 4 and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. 5 As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

DO YOU WANT TO BE A CHRISTIAN or A FOLLOWER OF JESUS CHRIST???

The Esau Mentality

Have you ever given up something or given up a good opportunity which has long term benefits in exchange to satisfy yourself with something that gives you immediate but temporary gratification?
Do you usually make decisions mostly according to your immediate impulse?
Would you exchange an intangible opportunity with long term benefits for something which will only give you short term satisfaction?

Genesis 25:29-34 NKJV
Now Jacob cooked a stew; and Esau came in from the field, and he was weary. And Esau said to Jacob, “Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am weary.” Therefore his name was called Edom.*
But Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright as of this day.”
And Esau said, “Look, I am about to die; so what is this birthright to me?”
Then Jacob said, “Swear to me as of this day.”
So he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob. And Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils; then he ate and drank, arose, and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.

Esau was a man who seemed to not care much about the long term effects of his actions. He was a man who seemed only concerned with satisfying his immediate needs; he was a man whose mind and whose decisions were governed by obtaining immediate and short-term gratification to the extent that he would give up anything of long term value in order to satisfy a temporary and self-gratifying need.
Such was Esau’s mentality that one point in his life, he exchanged his birthright with his younger brother Jacob for a bowl of stew.

A birthright was a special honour given to the firstborn son. It included a double portion of the family inheritance along with the honour of one day becoming the family’s leader. The oldest son could sell his birthright or give it away if he chose to, but in doing so he would lose both material goods, and his leadership position.

Therefore by trading his birthright for a bowl of stew, Esau showed complete disregard for the spiritual and material blessings that would have come his way if he had kept his birthright. This is why the scripture says that Esau “despised” his birthright (Genesis 25:34).

When Esau traded the lasting benefits of his birthright for the immediate but temporary pleasure of food, he acted according to his feelings; he was governed by impulse rather than by wisdom; he was tempted to satisfy his immediate desires without considering the long range consequences of his actions and he was a slave to the flesh.

There are many people who are like Esau; who fall into the same temptations and who think only about acquiring short term pleasure rather than long term fulfillment.

The Esau mentality was also such that he exaggerated the depth of his need. When Esau was hungry and in need of Jacob’s food, Esau’s perception of his problem/hunger was distorted and exaggerated. He told Jacob that he was about to die because of his hunger (Genesis 25:32). Therefore the pressure of the moment grossly distorted his perspective in regards to his situation.

Overcoming the Esau Mentality

To overcome the Esau mentality, one must begin the process of changing their attitude and perspective so that they view life and circumstances through the eyes of God and not through a distorted view that is based merely on fleshly desire; on impulse, emotion or the need for immediate gratification.

This involves applying the following knowledge in your life:

  1. Lining your own thoughts with God’s thoughts; think like God (Isaiah 55:6-9)
  2. You must realize and understand that immediate gratification is usually temporary but there are blessings in life that exist that are long term (Matthew 6:19-21)
  3. Temptation can only be overcome by having knowledge of God’s scriptures and choosing to apply God’s word in your daily life and situation. Jesus overcame temptation by quoting scripture every time that he was tempted by the devil (Matthew 4:1-11)
  4. For any temptation that comes your way, God has provided a way of escape. So don’t allow temptation to overpower you (1 Corinthians 10:13)

Playing the Blame Game

Whenever you encounter a problem, a challenge or some sort of difficult circumstance in your life, who do you decide to blame? Do you at times blame the economy; the society; the politicians; a family member – or do you even blame God Himself for some of the problems in your life?
Sometimes in life we can blame everybody for our problems – but not blame ourselves. Sometimes it is important to take responsibility for our problems and take the right steps to resolve them head-on.

Genesis 3:11-13 NKJV
And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?”
Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.”
And the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?”
The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

Adam and Eve were given strict and clear instructions from God that they were not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good & evil (Genesis 2:15-17).
However when God later discovered that Adam and Eve had disobeyed His instructions, Adam blamed Eve for his sin. Eve then blamed the serpent for her sin. So the question is – who was to blame? Who was responsible? Was it the serpent’s fault?

Read Genesis 3:14-24

When you read the above verses, you will discover that God held all 3 parties responsible and therefore God required all of them, that is Adam, Eve and the serpent to face the consequence of their sin.
God did not show favoritism to any of them because doing so would mean that He approved of their sinful actions.
The basic point is that whenever we sin, God does not want us to pass the blame to others, but He expects us to take & accept responsibility for our actions.
God does not expect us to hide from Him whenever we have done wrong or whenever we face a difficult problem.
In Genesis 3:8-10, after Adam and Eve sinned, they decided to hide from God’s presence because they thought they could hide their shame or their sin from God.
However the best way to deal with a problem or with your sin is not to blame other people for it – but rather it is best to bring all your issues to God so that God may help you to deal with it.

John 1:29 NKJV
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

Psalms 46:1 NKJV
God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.

Only God through His Son Jesus Christ can wipe away your own individual sins and also the sins of the world. Sin cannot be removed by blaming others for it, neither can you solve your own problems by blaming other people. However sin can be removed by confessing, repenting and allowing Jesus to cleanse us by His blood.
Also your individual problems can be resolved by bringing them to God so that He may help you to solve them.
To illustrate my point:- Just after Adam and Eve had sinned, they then realized their nakedness and so they decided to make for themselves coverings that were made out of leaves (Genesis 3:7). They made these coverings out of leaves by themselves (without God) in order to cover their bodies.
Later however, when God discovers their sin and the fact that they realized that they were naked, God Himself then makes tunics for Adam and Eve which were made of skin and God discards the leaf coverings that Adam & Eve had made by themselves.
This shows that even after sinning, Adam and Eve could not properly take care of themselves nor of their problems without the help of the LORD.
Adam and Eve’s attempt at fixing their sinful actions by themselves was a total failure. God’s intervention was necessary.

Conclusion
Whatever problem, burden, wrong-doing that you face in your life – don’t focus on shifting the blame – but rather focus on giving your issues to God and allow God to guide and help you to deal with them through His power and infinite wisdom.

1 John 1:9-10 NKJV
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.
