5 Reasons Why Homosexuality & Gay Marriage Is Wrong

Please note that this article is meant to speak the truth in love and help people engaged in this lifestyle to understand the unchanging, unwavering & uncompromising word of God related to the issue of homosexuality & gay marriage. It is a loving but honest warning of the spiritual dangers of homosexuality and its eternal ramifications if gay people do not repent.

Let it be understood that God & many Christians are motivated by love to teach, rebuke and guide people regarding issues such as these. God loves the sinner BUT God hates the sin. Homosexuality is a sin against God. Jesus died for all sinners and that sinners may repent of their sins (including homosexuality) and be eternally reconciled to God through Christ Jesus.

The current wave by various countries of legalizing & institutionalizing gay marriage proves from a spiritual perspective that this type of sin is not a “human / equal rights” matter but it is an anti-God issue. There are many reasons why homosexuality & gay marriage is wrong.
Institutionalization of gay marriage opens the door for a Sodom and Gomorrah lifestyle of sin & reveals the extent to which man’s rebellion against sin has reached. Sodom & Gomorrah loved, celebrated & indulged in their sinful lifestyle so much that God saw it necessary to destroy the city (Genesis 18-19).

So what are the reasons why homosexuality and gay marriage is wrong?

Leviticus 18:22 refers to homosexuality as an abomination. In other words; it is detestable; it is an abhorrence; it is a defilement to the human body. (Leviticus 18:22 – You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.)

Leviticus 18:24 says “Do not defile yourselves with these things” – a clear reference to both homosexuality and beastiality which is mentioned in Leviticus 18:23.

Anatomically, the body was not designed for 2 people of the same sex to have sexual intercourse. Therefore the act of sexual intercourse between 2 people of the same sex physically and spiritually defiles, harms & dishonors the human body because it is against nature & therefore unnatural. It violates natural law. Romans 1:26,27 says the following “…For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another…”

1 Corinthians 6:18-19 NKJV – Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.

Romans 1:24 NKJV – Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves

The argument that the gay movement use is that if 2 people of same sex love each other then who does it harm & why should people be concerned about it. They have also argued that love has no gender and therefore 2 people with the same gender should be allowed to marry each other if they love one another.
Here’s the problem: According to God’s word, the Bible – if 2 people of the same gender engage in together in sexual relations, the motive is NOT because of love – but it’s because of “vile passions” and “burning lust”.
Romans 1:26 says that “God gave them up to VILE PASSIONS” while Romans 1:27 says that “men leave the natural use of the woman and BURNED IN LUST for one another” – indicating that from a scriptural viewpoint, homosexuality and gay marriage have NOTHING to do with true love as defined by God or the word of God.

Marriage was created by God to be between a man and a woman. It was not created by man. Therefore by God’s definition, marriage is not between 2 people of the same gender. Any attempt by man to institutionalize marriage to include 2 people of the same gender is an open rebellion against God.
Homosexuality opposes God’s purpose for sex because it violates the natural law and purpose of sex. Indeed sex is meant to be enjoyed. However, sex is meant to be enjoyed between a man & a woman; between a husband & a wife.
Therefore because homosexuality is a defilement according to Leviticus 18:22 the union of 2 gay people defiles the marriage bed. Any type of sexual immorality is a defilement of the marriage bed.
Hebrews 13:4 – Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.
Furthermore, only a man and a woman who are married can become “one flesh” as the Bible states. Two men cannot be “one flesh”, neither can 2 women.
Genesis 2:23-24 NKJV – And Adam said: “This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.” 24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

God’s design for a family is that there be a husband, a wife and children. For a child/children to have 2 fathers or 2 mothers is a sad distortion of what it means to be in a family. It is a bad example for children. It denies a child either a father or a mother and it infects children with poor family values as they grow up. In a “marriage” where the parents are of the same gender, a child will most likely not be living with any of his/her biological parents and the atmosphere of living with 2 parents of the same gender will confuse the child morally and spiritually.
Deuteronomy 6:6-7 NKJV – And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.
Proverbs 22:6 NKJV – Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.

Homosexuality & gay marriage is so offensive to God that God will not allow homosexuals to enter His kingdom. Therefore this type of lifestyle should not be taken lightly. It has nothing to do with a person being homophobic or intolerant. Homosexual lifestyle will cost a person eternal life because it is an abomination that offends God on many different levels such as God’s design & definition of sex, marriage, family, humanity and the human body.
1 Corinthians 6:9-10 NKJV – Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexualswill inherit the kingdom of God.

The homosexual lifestyle was one of the main reasons why God had to destroy Sodom & Gomorrah (Genesis 18-19). Their sinful lifestyle was so rebellious against God that they thought that the men of Sodom & Gomorrah wanted to gang rape 2 of God’s angels who happened to be disguised as men. Their rebellion had no limits.
This is the problem with homosexuality & gay marriage. It is offensive to God and God will judge and punish unrepentant actions towards this type of lifestyle.

God Loves the Sinner but Hates the Sin

God’s love and grace is extended to ALL people regardless of our sinful lifestyles. Jesus did not die for the righteous, but He died for sinners.
Luke 5:31-32 NKJV – Jesus answered and said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.  32 I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”
Furthermore, God is just and faithful to forgive us when we confess our sins. There is no sin that God cannot forgive but He is ready to forgive us when we realize that we are sinners.

Homosexuality is a sin that God will forgive if we confess and we do not need to walk in condemnation.

1 John 1:8-10 NKJV – If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

As mentioned above, salvation is a FREE GIFT and salvation is not received by works but it is received by FAITH in Jesus Christ. It is that simple. A person must repent & by faith accept Jesus Christ as Lord & Saviour because Jesus is the only way, the truth & the life and the only Mediator between God & man.

  1. ACKNOWLEDGE: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). “God be merciful to me a sinner” (Luke 18:13).
You must acknowledge that you are a sinner and that you therefore need Jesus in your life.
  2. REPENT: “Unless you repent you will all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3), “Repent therefore and be converted that your sins may be blotted out” (Acts 3:19)
    Repenting means: to change your mind; a sincere turning away, in heart, mind and action;
Therefore God wants you to repent of sinful values and of sinful living. God wants you to decide to follow Him and to make Jesus the Lord of your life.
  3. CONFESSION: “If we confess our sins. He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9)
God is a forgiving God. God will forgive any sin that you have done because Jesus died for ALL your sins and to set you free from the bondage of all types of sin in your life.
  4. BELIEVE:“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting” (John 3:16). “He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned” (Mark 16:16)
You must believe that ONLY Jesus can save you and restore your relationship with God. You must believe that Jesus is the ONLY way by which you can have everlasting life and escape from eternal separation from God. You must believe that Jesus died on the cross for you and resurrected from the grave.
  5. RECEIVE:“He came to His own, and His own did not receive him, But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name” (John 1:11-12)
By faith, You must receive Jesus as Your Lord & Saviour and therefore; you become a child of God; you become born again; you become a Christian; you restore your broken relationship with God

Is Homosexuality A Sin?

Isaiah 5:20 ESV
Woe to those who call evil good and good evil,
who put darkness for light and light for darkness,
who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!

In various nations, it is increasingly becoming difficult to speak against homosexuality. The views and culture of this world is that homosexuality should be accepted as a natural and normal way of life.
Various countries have legalized homosexuality and same sex marriages and in some of these countries it has become a form of discrimination to speak against the homosexual lifestyle.
However is homosexuality natural? Is homosexuality normal? Is homosexuality a sin?

Sin can basically be defined as any type of wrongdoing against God. In other words, if God says that a certain behavior or action is wrong or bad, then that particular action or behavior can be defined as being a sin.
Sin cannot be defined through the eyes of the world or the world standards and systems. Sin can only be defined through God’s eyes and by God himself.
The world may legalize, promote and accept certain behaviors and lifestyles, but it does not necessarily mean that these particular behaviors or worldly laws are good or righteous in God’s view.
The homosexual lifestyle is such an example. Many countries are going to great lengths to promote, support and legalize same-sex marriages and homosexuality as being a normal and acceptable lifestyle that should not be condemned nor preached against. However, just because the homosexual lifestyle is legalized, it does not necessarily mean that it is not a sin against God. And just because homosexuality and same-sex marriage is legalized, it does not mean that God will not judge those who live according to this particular lifestyle.

Leviticus 18:22 ESV
You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.

What does God say about homosexuality? Is homosexuality a sin? The Bible which is the word of God clearly and consistently tells us that homosexual activity and lifestyle is a sin.
Read (Genesis 19:1-13; Leviticus 18:22; Leviticus 20:13; Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9).
In both the Old and the New Testament in the Bible, God’s word is consistent and clear in relation to His view regarding homosexuality.

Will Homosexuals Go To Heaven?
A few years ago, a certain well known preacher was asked by a TV host as to whether he believed homosexuals will go to Heaven. To the surprise of most true Bible believing Christians, this preacher responded by saying that he believed that homosexuals will go to heaven.
However, what does the Bible say? Do those who practice homosexuality have a place in the kingdom of God? Are homosexuals being judged too harshly by Christians?
ANSWER: 1 Corinthians 6:9 ESV – Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality

In 1 Corinthians 6:9, it says that we should “not be deceived”. Therefore let us not be deceived that heaven awaits those who practice homosexuality. Let us also not be deceived by anybody who tells us that God does not take homosexuality seriously as a sin. Let us also not be deceived that just because the world has legalized certain behaviours and lifestyles like same-sex marriages, that it means that God’s word and God’s law carries less weight. God’s word will ALWAYS stand ABOVE every world system and law.
God takes homosexuality so seriously that His word warns us that those who practice homosexuality will not inherit the kingdom of God. In Leviticus 18:22, God refers to homosexuality as being an abomination.

Can Homosexuals Repent & Be Saved?
1 John 1:9 ESV – If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

God does not hate homosexuals. God loves us all despite our flaws and God is readily willing to FORGIVE anyone who is living a homosexual lifestyle. God loves us – but He hates sin. Therefore God wants us to live a life that is according to His values and which glorifies Him.
God may not accept our sinful behavior, but He will accept our confession and repentance through His Son Jesus Christ.
God offers salvation, forgiveness of sins and a place in Heaven for those people who receive Jesus as their Lord and Saviour and purposefully repent from living various sinful lifestyles of which homosexuality is among the list of a sinful lifestyle.
If you have been living a homosexual lifestyle, repent today and receive Jesus as your Lord and Saviour.

2 Peter 3:9 – The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
God offers salvation to EVERY person who has not yet become a Christian. It is God’s desire that EVERYONE should have eternal life and that EVERYONE spend eternity in Heaven with Him as long as we accept, believe, repent & receive Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour. Salvation is a CHOICE that a person must choose to want. To refuse the Biblical salvation that God offers through Christ Jesus is to choose eternity in hell (and the 4 other points mentioned above). But to choose salvation through Christ Jesus is to choose eternal life with God.

If you are not a Christian, and you want to become a born-again Christian, you can do so by confessing with your mouth and believing in your heart that Jesus is Lord and that He came to save you from the power of the enemy and so that you may have an eternal everlasting relationship with Him.

Romans 10:9-10 NKJV
that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Why Is There So Much Evil in the World?

Do you ever wonder why life continues to become difficult? Why is there so much evil in the world? Do you constantly become surprised, dismayed and shocked at how wicked society and people can be to one another?
It is said that there are ONLY TWO kind of problems in the world:
(1) Our problem with our relationship with God and
(2) Our problem with our relationship with each other.
You only need to read the newspaper or the news on the Internet and you will discover that we live in a wicked generation and there appears to be no limits to the wicked actions that people will do. The majority of people do not have a fear of God nor a love for their fellow neighbour. You hardly hear any good news whenever you read or watch the news.

2 Timothy 3:1-5
But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. 2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, 4 treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.

Could it be that we are in the last days? Are we beginning to experience the birth pangs of the end of times that Jesus spoke about?

When we read 2 Timothy 3:1-5, God gives us in His word an idea of what the last days will be like.
(a) There will come times of difficulty in families, in society, in nations and in the whole world.
(b) The condition of man itself will be that of wickedness and godlessness.

Let us look at each individual wicked condition of man mentioned in 2 Timothy 3:1-5 and understand God’s perspective

  1. People will be LOVERS OF SELF. This means that they will be conceited; they will be filled with vanity; they will think mostly of themselves and their actions will have no consideration for other people.
  2. People will be LOVERS OF MONEY. This means that people will value money more than anything or anybody else. To these people, money will be more important than God. Even religious people or false prophets will deceive and exploit people for money.
  3. People will be PROUD. This means that they will be boasters. These people will boast in their achievements and in their effort; they will not acknowledge God for their success; they will see themselves as “little gods”.
  4. People will be ARROGANT. This means that people will feel self-important; they will believe that they are better than other people; they will have no desire to learn from other people
  5. People will be ABUSIVE. This means that people will mistreat, exploit, pervert, assault, insult and commit all sort of physical, emotional, spiritual and psychological damage on each other – especially on the weak.
  6. People will be DISOBEDIENT TO PARENTS. People will not honour or respect their parents.
  7. People will be UNGRATEFUL. People will be unthankful. They will have no appreciation to their fellowman nor to God. They will not acknowledge the help of God nor of others to guide or improve their life.
  8. People will be UNHOLY. This means that the motives and hearts of people will not be pure. Their hearts and minds will be corrupted and defiled before God.
  9. People will be HEARTLESS. This means that people will be unloving and hateful. They will have no remorse for any bad things that they do. They will not repent and they will not care about doing the right thing. Their conscience will be seared.
  10. People will be UNAPPEASABLE. People will be unforgiving. They will keeps grudges.
  11. People will be SLANDEROUS. People will falsely speak words that damage the reputation of other people. They will defame or falsely testify about other people in order to damage their character.
  12. People will be WITHOUT SELF-CONTROL. People will be addicted to all sorts of things, eg drugs, sinful pleasures and perform various taboo acts. Some will yield to the control of evil or demonic spirits.
  13. People will be BRUTAL. People will be extreme, vicious, cruel, lacking human sensibility
  14. People will NOT LOVE GOOD. People will be lovers of evil. They will take pleasure in sinful behaviours. They will see the good things as being bad but however embrace bad values and bad cultures as their way of life.
  15. People will be TREACHEROUS. People will be disloyal, faithless and unfaithful. They will be dangerously unstable and unpredictable.
  16. People will be RECKLESS. People will be marked by defiant disregard for danger or consequences. They will act without thinking of the harmful effects of their negative actions.
  17. People will be SWOLLEN WITH CONCEIT. People will have an exaggerated sense of self-importance. They will be extremely arrogant and vain. They will have a false sense of pride.
  18. People will be LOVERS OF PLEASURE RATHER THAN LOVERS OF GOD. People will find more time for pleasures of all sorts rather than to make time to spend with God. In other words, God will not be first in their lives. People will seek to satisfy their fleshly desires and needs and not seek God who is able to satisfy one’s needs.
  19. People will have THE APPEARANCE OF GODLINESS, BUT DENYING ITS POWER. People will be religious; they will look godly, act godly but what they will not have godliness because what they claim to believe will not correspond with their actions.

My understanding of 2 Timothy 3:5 is that there will be absolutely no boundaries to the kind of sin that people will do. People will be lawless and without self control.  I am reminded of the days of Noah, before the great flood, where it says in Genesis 6:5 that “The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually”. We therefore see a detailed description of the wicked condition of man in the last days in 2 Timothy 3:5 from Paul. Basically the conscience of people will be seared and these type of people will be unteachable and they will not repent at all from wrong doing nor will they recognise or accept the God’s word and values.

In 2 Timothy 3:5, Paul ends part of his description of why the last days will be difficult times by saying “Avoid such people”.
Paul is not saying that we should hate such people. We of course must love them and also we must preach and teach the gospel of Christ Jesus to anybody who is lost. The reason why he says we should avoid such people as the 19 types of people mentioned in 2 Timothy 3:1-5 is because some of these habits, behaviours and characteristics are contagious and can spread very easily from person to person or from one society to the next. These 19 characteristics become a lifestyle.
For example, it was not so long ago when the idea of homosexuality and gay marriage was accepted. It only took a situation where one nation radically accepted gay marriage in particular and made it law, that the idea that homosexuals can marry one another is now becoming a growing culture and spreading among various nations. Instead of homosexuality and gay marriage being seen as taboo, the idea has been embraced and accepted under the umbrella of human rights or equality. Therefore this ungodly culture of the acceptance of homosexuality is growing fast but yet this lifestyle does not please God. In certain nations, if you publically oppose the sin of homosexuality or gay marriage, you are seen as promoting hatred.
Therefore sinful habits and sinful people must be avoided, especially in situations where the people who are promoting sin are deliberately rebellious and not willing to repent or accept God’s values and Christ Jesus. The Bible discourages us from being unequally yoked with an unbeliever (2 Corinthians 6:14) and that bad company corrupts good character (1 Corinthians 15:33)

Biblical Prosperity (Part 3) – Love of Money

It’s interesting to note, that when you study the life and teachings of Jesus, whenever the issue of money or possessions came up as a subject during His ministry – Jesus NEVER ENCOURAGED or MOTIVATED his followers to seek after MATERIAL or WORLDLY or TEMPORARY wealth and riches. In fact, Jesus ALWAYS encouraged His followers to seek after heavenly things and godliness rather than to seek after material or temporary wealth.
There are MANY scriptures in the Bible and in Jesus’ teachings where Jesus told His followers that the pursuit and the love of money and material wealth posed a great danger to their relationship with God and to their faith.
The kind of preaching about acquiring wealth or riches that is preached today – or the “prosperity gospel” as it is sometimes called – where the pursuit of material wealth is emphasized over the pursuit of true godliness is very flawed and at most unbiblical whenever the prosperity gospel teachings are put under the correct scrutiny of God’s word and teachings.

1 Timothy 6:6-10
Now godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

The word of God warns us that the desire to be rich or the love and pursuit of material wealth can lead to many snares and temptations which may end up leading people astray and away from true faith in God.
It is important to understand that money in itself is not evil, but the love of money and the love of material possessions can lead to all kinds of evil.
Below are various Biblical reasons as to what the dangers and snares are, when a person pursues after riches:

(1) THE LOVE OF MONEY LEADS TO ALL KINDS OF EVIL – (1 Timothy 6:10 – For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil …)
The love of money can be so powerful that people will practice witchcraft & voodoo in order to obtain wealth; some will kill for money; some will marry for money; some will sell their bodies sexually for money; some will sell their souls for money; some will exploit the weak and the desperate for money; some will even deny Christ and speak heresy for money;
Judas betrayed Jesus and was rewarded for his betrayal with money.
According to scripture, there are no limits to the kind of evil that people can do if the love of money is present because “the love of money a root of ALL kinds of evil”. Therefore money is not something that a person should love or lust for. The reason is that when we love money, we open ourselves to ALL kinds of temptations and wickedness.

(2) THE PURSUIT OF RICHES LEADS TO GREED – (1 Timothy 6:6-10 – Now godliness with contentment is great gain… For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness …)
Problems can always arise when we do not live in contentment. When we are not content with what God has given us at a particular time, we then become governed by our flesh. And when we are governed by the flesh and not by God, we then succumb to fleshly characteristics such as greed, where we want more than we actually need. Greediness becomes the motivating factor by which we pursue after material wealth and riches and greed is an ungodly and forbidden characteristic. (Read: Biblical Prosperity (Part 2) – The Rich Fool) to learn more about the dangers of greed.

(3) RICHES CAN PREVENT YOU FROM LIVING GENUINELY FOR GOD – (Matthew 19:21-24 – Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. Then Jesus said to His disciples, “Assuredly, I say to you that it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”)
Do you own your possessions? Or do your possessions own you? Would you put God FIRST in all areas of your life and follow Christ as your NUMBER ONE priority instead of pursuing after material wealth and riches? In Matthew 6:33 Jesus is very clear about what we should seek FIRST in our lives (Matthew 6:33 – But seek FIRST the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you). Therefore above every personal desire and need, God wants us to FIRST seek His kingdom AND His RIGHTEOUSNESS. The problem with the rich young ruler in Matthew 19:16-23 is that this rich man valued his personal wealth and possessions as being of more importance than following Jesus. The rich man may have initially claimed to have followed God’s commandments and he may have had knowledge of the scriptures, but the TRUE nature of his heart was revealed when Jesus told him to sell his possessions and follow Him. The rich man’s heart was with his possessions and not with God. He loved his possessions and wealth more than he loved God. As a result his riches prevented him from GENUINELY following the Lord.

(4) THE LOVE OF MONEY IS IDOLATRY – (Matthew 6:24 – “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.)
Mammon is personified as a false god of riches & money. Mammon as a false god attempts to substitute God’s role of provision in a person’s life. Therefore instead of man looking to God for his provisions, man looks to mammon for provisions. This is why Jesus clearly has a problem with people’s love for money. If our love and loyalty is to the pursuit of money, then it means that our relationship with God is automatically compromised. However, if our loyalty and love is with God then the issue of money no longer becomes important in our lives. According to Jesus, we CANNOT serve BOTH money and God at the same time. God equates the love of money and our loyalty to money to be equal to loving and serving a false god.

(5) THE PURSUIT OF RICHES TAKES YOUR FOCUS OFF THE REAL PRIZE – (Matthew 6:19-21 – “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”).
Jesus emphasizes that the pursuit of heavenly treasures is more important than the pursuit of temporary wealth and riches. In 1 Timothy 6:7 we are reminded that when we were born we brought nothing into this world. Therefore when we die we will not take any material possession or money with us. The love of money can deceive us into believing that we will keep our material possessions and money forever. However the true treasure and rewards we must seek after are the treasures in heaven. These treasures that Jesus mentions await us when we have a genuine personal relationship with God and when we live a life of genuine service and obedience to God and His word.

(6) THE LOVE OF POSSESSIONS & MONEY LEAD TO SELF-DECEPTION & COVETOUSNESS – (Luke 12:15 – And He said to them, “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.”)
Another danger concerning the love of money is that it can deceive people into believing that their success in life is measured by how much money they make. However Jesus teaches that our success or life is not measured by the abundance of our money or possessions. Even our spiritual maturity or relationship with God can never be measured by the size of our bank accounts or by the amount of possessions that we own. For example, in the Bible, Joseph was a slave of his Egyptian master, but even though Joseph was a slave, the word of God referred to Joseph as being a successful or prosperous man (Genesis 39:2,3 – And the Lord was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. And his master saw that the Lord was with him, and that the Lord made all that he did to prosper in his hand). Read also Biblical Prosperity (Part 1) – The Study of Joseph

Philippians 4:19
And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Money is a mere tool. God wants us to pursue Him above ALL things – including money. God wants us to put Him FIRST and He wants us to rely on Him to provide for our EVERY need. Money does not satisfy (Ecclesiastes 5:10). However God only can satisfy us. Therefore, whatever provisions we need, we must rely on the Lord to supply according to HIS riches and not according to yours.

How To Resist Temptation

Are there any temptations in your life that are just too powerful to resist? Do you feel as if you are powerless against certain temptations that come in your life?
According to God, there is NO temptation that can overcome you, unless you, yourself allow it to. There is also no temptation that you will face in your life that is unique only to you or your life. Therefore whatever temptations you are battling in your life, the chances are that there are many people who are also battling the same type of temptation. The question is: Are you overcoming your temptations, or are your temptations conquering you?
You could be struggling with a type of addiction, lust, pornography, foul language, anger, fornication, hatred, greed and the like. God says that you CAN overcome ALL temptation that comes your way.

Hebrews 2:18 NKJV
For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.

Jesus Himself was tempted in every way by satan, but Jesus overcame EVERY temptation and trial that the devil threw at Him. If we are to overcome temptation, we must learn from Jesus and we must imitate His methods and the advice and teachings that God gives through His word.

In order to resist temptation you need to know, understand and apply the following in your life:

1. KNOW & OBEY GOD’s WORD: You need to be rooted in God’s word. Jesus responded to EVERY temptation from the devil with God’s word. Jesus not only knew and spoke God’s word against every temptation – but He also obeyed the word of God. (Matthew 4:1-11). You therefore need to study the word of God and let it be part of your very fabric so that you may be obedient to His word. (Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You. – Psalms 119:11 NKJV)

2. YOU MUST AVOID or RUN: You need to avoid or run away from tempting situations. At times the best response is to leave any tempting situation. When Joseph was tempted to commit adultery by Potiphar’s wife, Joseph literally ran away. (Genesis 39:11, 12). Joseph didn’t wait long enough to “observe” or “ponder” or “take a peak” because if he did, it might have caused him to have second thoughts which may have led him into sin. (Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. – 2 Timothy 2:22 NKJV)

3. ASSOCIATE WITH THE RIGHT FRIENDS: You need to associate with good, mature friends who will not corrupt you. The people whom you allow to influence your life and decisions can either have a good effect or a bad effect on your life. If your friends are a negative influence, then the devil can work through them to tempt you. Mob psychology and peer pressure can therefore be a method by which temptation may creep in. (Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits. – 1 Corinthians 15:33 NKJV)

4. WALK IN THE SPIRIT: It is important to continuously be led by the Holy Spirit. When Jesus was tempted, the scriptures say that He was led by the Spirit of God (Matthew 4:1), (Luke 4:1). The Holy Spirit gives us strength and will appropriately help us in our time of weakness or testing. (I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. – Galatians 5:16 NKJV)

5. THROUGH JESUS, YOU CAN OVERCOME: Whenever you are tempted, Jesus fully understands the pressure you are going through, because He too was tempted. Jesus however overcame every temptation and He will help you to do the same. (For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted. – Hebrews 2:18 NKJV)

6. THERE IS ALWAYS A WAY OF ESCAPE: There is NO temptation that is too powerful for you. For every temptation that you face in your life, God has prepared an escape plan or a Biblical method by which you will overcome the temptation. – (No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. – 1 Corinthians 10:13 NKJV)

7. REMEMBER YOUR IDENTITY & AUTHORITY IN CHRIST: You are a child of the Most High God. You are more than a conqueror in Christ. Even the devil attempted to plant a seed of doubt in Jesus’ mind regarding whether or not Jesus was indeed the Son of God. Every time the devil tempted Jesus, he would begin by saying “IF you are the Son of God…” (Matthew 4:1-11). When the devil succeeds in making you doubt your true identity in Christ, you will then also doubt the authority that God has given you over the enemy. (Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. – Romans 8:37 NKJV)

We live in a culture filled with moral depravity. Wherever you go, there are many things that may entice you and tempt you to sin. However God want us to be righteous through Christ. God wants us to be a shining light in a spiritually dark world. God does not want us to conform to the standards and pleasure of this world (Romans 12:1,2).

TODAY, don’t allow temptation to get the better of you. There is a way of escape. Always know that you are more than a conqueror in Christ Jesus.
