How Should Christians Respond to Pride Month?

Pride Month or LGBT Pride Month is an annual commemoration in the month of June by the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.
Pride Month is a recognition and celebration of LGTBQ culture and activism. Pride Month initially originated in America in 1970 but has since become a major cultural event and movement around the world with other countries celebrating this event, but at different times of the year.

Celebrations of Pride Month are held in the form of Pride parades, marches, rallies, carnivals, displays of the rainbow Pride flag and the like.
As the name suggests, Pride denotes that the LGBTQ community is unashamedly  proud and boastful about their sexual lifestyle and choices. Instead of feeling guilt and remorse because of sin, they rejoice and celebrate their sin. Ironically the celebration of immorality is rooted in the sin of pride. It is also pride which led the devil to rebel against God (Ezekiel 28:17).

The LGBT community has become very influential to the extent of expecting everyone from different cultures, countries and belief systems to accept and embrace the LGBTQ ideology and agenda without criticism or direct opposition.

However the Bible says that we should not conform to the standard or cultures of this world (Romans 12:2).

According to Scripture, homosexuality and transgenderism is a sin against God. Pride Month is a celebration of sexual sin and immorality. Therefore Christians should not support Pride Month nor participate in their celebrations.

LGBT Pride Month is a rebellion against God that is reminiscent of the spirit and attitude of Sodom and Gomorrah.

So how should Christians respond to Pride Month?

1. Christians should speak the truth and defend the faith
If we love someone, we will tell them the truth. If the truth is accepted, it will set one free from the devil’s deception and from the bondage of sin. The truth cannot be compromised.

The truth is that homosexuality is a sin against God. Homosexuality is a sin which has terrifying eternal consequences for the unrepentant homosexual. Therefore this truth must be lovingly and respectfully communicated even the truth will be opposed.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 says: Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

All people with all kinds of belief systems should be approached with love and respect. It is possible for Christians to love the sinner but hate the sin.

Jude 1:23 says: save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment stained by the flesh.

1 Peter 3:15-16 says: but in your hearts regard Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; 16 yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.

2. Christians should expose the moral depravity of society
There is a culture war in the world. The LGBTQ agenda is part of this culture war that is bent on ushering a Sodom and Gomorrah lifestyle.

LGBTQ culture and activism is a sign that God has given society over to its worst and most evil desires. The LGBTQ lifestyle that is being promoted in the world is evidence that moral restraint has loosened considerably. The LGBTQ agenda has become so morally depraved that children have become targets for grooming and indoctrination for this kind of lifestyle.

Romans 1:26-27 NLT says: That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other. 27 And the men, instead of having normal sexual relations with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men, and as a result of this sin, they suffered within themselves the penalty they deserved

Christians should bravely expose the sin and wickedness that is in this world. Rather than hiding or becoming influenced by the darkness, Christians we must shine as lights in the world and expose the wickedness of homosexuality and transgenderism.

Ephesians 5:11-13 says: Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. 13 But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible,

3. Christians Should Unashamedly Proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ
Proclaiming the Gospel is the only thing that will bring sinners to a saving relationship with Jesus Christ.

According to Romans 1:18 “the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth”

The LGBTQ community needs to understand the consequence of sin and just like Sodom and Gomorrah, homosexuality is a form of ungodliness which invites the wrath of God.
Sin has grave consequences. We need salvation from our sins and from the consequence of sin.

So the LGBTQ community needs to hear the gospel that Jesus is able to save them from their sins and give them eternal life. As Christians we must not be afraid to share the gospel.

Romans 1:16-17 says: For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

We all have broken God’s Ten Commandments. We are all sinners (Romans 3:23). Our sins lead to death or eternal punishment (Romans 6:23).
Sin and immorality should not be celebrated in the form of rallies, carnivals and marches.
Instead we ought to feel guilty when we sin because we have transgressed before a just and holy God.
We ought to tremble because of our sin and have the fear of God inside us because of the wickedness in our hearts.

Thankfully God is loving and merciful and able to forgive us of all our sins. We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ who paid the penalty for our sins on the Cross (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Salvation and eternal life is available as a free gift through Jesus Christ if we place our total trust in Him as our Lord and Saviour.

4. We must not fear persecution for standing for the truth
In a world that has embraced deception and immorality, there will be opposition to Biblical truth. When the world despises the truth, it will respond by persecuting those who speak it.
The world does not like to have its sins exposed nor does it like to be corrected by the godly.
It is because the world is at enmity with Christ and with Christians.

Therefore Christians will face persecution for standing by the truth and exposing the darkness of the LGBTQ agenda and culture.

So Christians must not be surprised when the world negatively responds, because the LGTBQ issue is not just a culture war, instead this issue is part of a spiritual war between the Kingdom of God and the kingdom of Satan (Ephesians 6:12).

In Matthew 5:10-12 Jesus said: “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11  “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on My account.  12  Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

If Christians are persecuted for the sake of Christ and for the sake of the gospel, then they are doing something right. We must take comfort that whatever we do in the name of the Lord will bring results and earn us rewards in Heaven because we seek to please God.
