Be Doers of the Word

Are you a church-goer or are you a disciple of Christ? Are you just a hearer of the word or are you a doer of the word of God? Are you a “Christian” by name only or are you a true Christian by action? Do you talk the talk or do you walk the talk?
Luke 6:46 NKJV
But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and NOT DO the things WHICH I SAY?
When Jesus spoke to the multitudes in Luke 6:46 Jesus was basically asking the crowd why they called Him Lord or Master or Teacher but yet they did not obey Him.
Therefore if Jesus is our Lord, then we ought to believe and obey the things which He says. We must acknowledge His Lordship not ONLY by hearing His word – but also by DOING / OBEYING the things our Lord says.
LORD is defined as: one who has authority, control or power over others
When you call Jesus your “Lord” during prayer or worship or a church service – do you really mean it?
Does Jesus have authority and control in ALL areas of your life? Or are there various areas and habits in your life where you will not listen to God and allow Him to have authority over?
Because if Jesus is your LORD and Saviour, then it means that you have given Him authority and control over every area of your life?
Luke 6:47-48 NKJV
Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock…
Jesus is your ROCK & FOUNDATION and whatever you hear and do, must be based on what the Lord Jesus has taught you. Jesus said “I am the WAY, the TRUTH and the LIFE…” – therefore Jesus is everything you need.
James 1:22 NKJV
But BE DOERS of the word, and NOT hearers ONLY, DECEIVING YOURSELVES.
Therefore when you read the word and listen to it but yet you DO NOT obey the word of God, James says that you DECEIVE yourself. You do not deceive others – but you deceive yourself. You do not deceive God – but you deceive yourself.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO OBEY THE WORD OF GOD?
James 1:25 NKJV
But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, THIS ONE WILL BE BLESSED IN WHAT HE DOES.
Being a doer of the word of God will bring BLESSING in all you do. As long as your heart is in the right place and you have a desire to put into action the words and works of the Lord, God will be right next to you to ensure that you succeed in what you do.
Now you need to also understand that even when you are obedient to God’s word, tests and trials can still come your way. But this does not mean that God is not with you, because if your relationship with God is built on the foundation of the Lord Jesus Christ and His teachings, then you will be able to withstand the challenges of life through Christ.
Luke 6:48 NKJV
…And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock.
So when your Christian walk is built on Christ through obeying His word, He will give you the strength to withstand the storms of life.
