Why Is Homosexuality A Big Issue?
Why is homosexuality a big issue with both Christians and non-Christians? Why does this issue continue making headlines through-out the world and will homosexuality ever be accepted as a normal lifestyle specifically by Christians?
There is no doubt that the Biblical view of homosexuality is that this sexual lifestyle is a sin against God and that God does not and He will never accept homosexuality as being a good thing.
The Bible of course mentions that there are many other sins that God hates but in this current time homosexuality and gay marriage are the issues that have taken centre stage and because these particular issues are being debated prominently in media, politics, and law it is important to understand why homosexuality is a big deal and why most Christians are vehemently against homosexuality & gay marriage.
- Homosexuality Is Viewed As Not Hurting Anybody
The argument often used by gay supporters is that homosexuality does not hurt anyone, and that there is nothing wrong if 2 people (of the same sex) love each other.
The truth is, homosexuality DOES hurt someone. It hurts the very people involved in the homosexual relationship and there are physical, biological, spiritual & eternal ramifications when people openly rebel against God in order to live this kind of lifestyle (1 Corinthians 6:9).
Homosexuality also hurts the gay person because when a homosexual is involved in a homosexual relationship that person sins against his own body & his own soul (1 Corinthians 6:18).
Then why should Christians care? A Christian cares enough because he/she is motivated by love to speak the truth and to help people understand God’s love and God’s mind so that they may be saved from the deception of the devil.
Biologically and spiritually, a gay person is hurt in different ways. The Bible, history, our physiology and creation itself argue against same-sex marriage. Marriage is designed to be between a male and a female. Homosexuality & same-sex marriage goes against God’s natural order and purpose.
Genesis 2:24 NKJV – Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
A man shall leave his mother (female) and father (male) to be with his wife (female) so that the two of them (as male & female) can start their own family.
According to God’s word, only a man and a woman can become “one flesh”
God did not intend for a man and another man to become “one flesh”, nor did God intend for a woman and another woman to become “one flesh”.
Therefore homosexuality dishonors the soul and body of a person because a person does not use their body for what God originally & biologically intended.
Romans 1:24-27 NKJV – Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves… For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.
- Homosexuality Is A Celebrated Sin
When was the last time you heard that a husband committed adultery, and the press, the media and the celebrities applauded as “righteous” and “brave” at the actions of a man cheating on his wife.
When was the last time you heard that a loving parent was delighted to learn that his/her 17 year old child is sexually active with somebody and that fornicating is good & healthy for a teenage child?
If a person is cringing or frowning at the above examples or if one finds them absurd even in the slightest it shows that our conscious reflects that such sexual actions are neither normal no appropriate.
However, unlike any other sexual lifestyle or behavior, homosexuality is being publically promoted, celebrated and applauded aggressively by people who support this lifestyle in an effort to normalize this sinful behavior in the minds and hearts of people.
Isaiah 5:20 ESV – Woe to those who call evil good and good evil; Who put darkness for light and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!
- Homosexuality Is Causing Persecution Among People Who Don’t Accept the Lifestyle
There are some who accuse those who speak against homosexuality & gay marriage as promoting hate speech.
The truth is, it is the duty of every true born again Christian to speak against sin and to speak about the Good News of Jesus Christ and the redemption from sin that Jesus Christ offers us through His finished work on the cross.
Therefore a true Bible believing Christian cannot speak against the word of God nor can he/she support something that he/she knows to be a sin. Therefore because God highlights several times that homosexuality is a sin, it is the duty of true Christians to speak the mind of God regarding this issue. This is therefore one of the reasons why homosexuality continues to be a big issue. Gay supporters & Christian believers have taken a strong stance against each other and of late it’s the Christians who seem to be suffering persecution for standing in support of God’s word.
1 Peter 3:13-17 NKJV – And who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good? 14 But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. “And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.” 15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; 16 having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed. 17 For it is better, if it is the will of God, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.
- Homosexuality Is Being Normalized & Desensitized Through Film & Media
Films & other various forms of media are being used in order to “normalize” and desensitize people’s perception of homosexuality & gay marriage. Not only are adults the target but also children are gradually becoming targeted in order for children to accept homosexuality as a normal lifestyle as they grow into adulthood.
1 Corinthians 6:9 ESV – Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality
The truth is, in God’s eyes, sin is sin. Homosexuality is such a huge problem to the human condition that the Bible says that people who “practice homosexuality” will not inherit the kingdom of God.
This is another reason why homosexuality is a big issue. Attempting to normalize homosexuality will never change God’s view of this sin. In fact, according to the Bible, homosexuality can cost a person’s place in the kingdom of God. This is why Christians warn people of the spiritual dangers of homosexuality.
- Those Who Accept & Agree With Homosexuality Are Seen As Progressive People
Not only has the secular world accepted homosexuality & gay marriage but very slowly and gradually there are apostate pastors and apostate churches that are coming out in support of homosexuality. Such apostate pastors & churches are readily seen as being “progressive” and “tolerant” in the eyes of the world and gay supporters while Christians who oppose are denounced as homophobic & intolerant.
However, the Scriptures teach that Christians should not be conformed to the standards & culture of the world and its systems (Romans 12:2). Christian beliefs are governed by the word of God.
James 4:4 NKJV – Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
There is no progressive thinking behind supporting the sin of homosexuality. Rather, whenever people vehemently support the sin nature they oppose the mind of God and cause their conscious to be seared and their mind to be debased.
Romans 1:27-29 NKJV – Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting;
God Loves the Sinner but Hates the Sin
God’s love and grace is extended to ALL people regardless of our sinful lifestyles. Jesus did not die for the righteous, but He died for sinners.
Luke 5:31-32 NKJV – Jesus answered and said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 32 I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”
Furthermore, God is just and faithful to forgive us when we confess our sins. There is no sin that God cannot forgive but He is ready to forgive us when we realize that we are sinners.
Homosexuality is a sin that God will forgive if we confess and we do not need to walk in condemnation.
1 John 1:8-10 NKJV – If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
DO YOU WANT TO BE SAVED / BECOME A CHILD OF GOD & A FOLLOWER OF JESUS CHRIST???
As mentioned above, salvation is a FREE GIFT and salvation is not received by works but it is received by FAITH in Jesus Christ. It is that simple. A person must repent & by faith accept Jesus Christ as Lord & Saviour because Jesus is the only way, the truth & the life and the only Mediator between God & man.
- ACKNOWLEDGE: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). “God be merciful to me a sinner” (Luke 18:13).
You must acknowledge that you are a sinner and that you therefore need Jesus in your life.
- REPENT: “Unless you repent you will all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3), “Repent therefore and be converted that your sins may be blotted out” (Acts 3:19)
Repenting means: to change your mind; a sincere turning away, in heart, mind and action;
Therefore God wants you to repent of sinful values and of sinful living. God wants you to decide to follow Him and to make Jesus the Lord of your life.
- CONFESSION: “If we confess our sins. He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9)
God is a forgiving God. God will forgive any sin that you have done because Jesus died for ALL your sins and to set you free from the bondage of all types of sin in your life.
- BELIEVE: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting” (John 3:16). “He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned” (Mark 16:16)
You must believe that ONLY Jesus can save you and restore your relationship with God. You must believe that Jesus is the ONLY way by which you can have everlasting life and escape from eternal separation from God. You must believe that Jesus died on the cross for you and resurrected from the grave.
- RECEIVE:“He came to His own, and His own did not receive him, But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name” (John 1:11-12)
By faith, You must receive Jesus as Your Lord & Saviour and therefore; you become a child of God; you become born again; you become a Christian; you restore your broken relationship with God
