What’s Wrong with Being Atheist?

According to atheists, an atheist is a person who lacks belief in God or “gods”. However lacking a belief in God does not necessarily mean that God does not exist.
A person born blind may have never seen the stars with his own eyes – however it does not mean that the stars do not exist. Despite the testimonies of others, the blind person can either choose to believe or choose to have a “lack of belief” – but it does not change the fact that the stars exist.
Therefore atheism is a choice. It is a deliberate choice to have a “lack of belief in God”.

What’s Wrong With Being Atheist?
So what’s wrong with being atheist? Are atheists better people than Christians? Do atheists have a better moral standard? Do atheists have a better purpose in life?
Below are some important reasons to note as to what is wrong with being an atheist

(1) Being Atheist Is Foolish
Psalms 14:1 – The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God”. They are corrupt, They have done abominable works, There is none who does good.
In the Bible a fool is a person who does not think with God. Therefore a person behaves foolishly when his thoughts and actions are contrary to the plan, principles and nature of God.
Therefore when the Bible speaks of a person being a fool, it is not addressing the person’s IQ or academic or professional & educational abilities.
So why is atheism foolish? God is Spirit (John 4:24) and therefore the things of God can only be spiritually discerned. Atheists only try to understand things from a natural & materialistic viewpoint and ignore the spiritual. However, the natural viewpoint is limited because the things of God can be discerned spiritually.
1 Corinthians 2:14 says “But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned”.
Therefore it is no surprise if an atheist finds the things of God to be foolish. The atheist is a “natural man” who believes only in natural things and so he cannot understand the things that are “spiritually discerned”.

(2) Atheist Have No Moral Compass
Psalms 14:1 describes a person who says “There is no God” as person who does “abominable works”.
An abominable work means something that is exceptionally bad or displeasing; detestable.
Atheism itself is abominable because out of atheism come many detestable philosophies, principles and practices.
Why do atheists lack a moral compass? Atheists have no sense of what’s right and what’s wrong. To the atheist, the truth can change. For example, to the atheist, beastiality might be wrong today – but it might be okay tomorrow.
Atheists cannot define what is moral; what is true; and what is acceptable. Why? Because they do not have a timeless moral standard upon which they stand upon.
After all, the majority of atheists are more likely to believe in the Theory of Evolution and therefore most atheists believe that mankind are just animals at their core. Therefore the concept of man having a conscience or a soul is foolishness to atheists because in the mind of the atheist – man is just an animal at his core. Just like animals, atheists have no basis for truth,
However, in 1 Timothy 4:2 the Bible speaks of people having a “seared conscience”. A seared conscience is a conscience that is insensitive or desensitized. A seared conscience lacks a moral standard and the conscience does not function properly.
Examples of well-known atheists who had seared consciences are Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Castro, Kim Jong II, Lenin, Ceaucescu who killed over 100 million people. They had no respect for life. This reliably proves that atheists in leadership and people who have no fear for God have no moral compass.
Another example is that, most atheists are more likely to support the killing of unborn babies than people who are not atheist. A sign that atheists have seared consciences.

(3) Atheist Make Themselves Gods
Atheism creates the terrible deception that: if there is no God, then man himself is a “god” who answers to no one. Out of atheism, secular humanism is birthed. The idea of secular humanism is that man can fix himself; man can fix his life; man fix all the problems of the world without the help of God. Humanism promotes a self-centred life and not a God-centred life. It promotes the idea that man is the “god” and that we don’t need God.
So-called “free-thinking” is a method to escape accountability for immoral thinking and behavior.
Atheists don’t like accountability. Rebellion is one of the roots of atheism. The desire for lack of spiritual and moral accountability means that atheists replace God’s law and create their own life principles without wanting to answer to anyone for their actions.
It’s no wonder there is a sense of puffed up knowledge & arrogance among atheists. It’s an attitude rooted in pride and self-worship. Although they won’t admit it, they falsely believe and behave as if they have the answers pertaining to all things both natural and spiritual.
Romans 1:22 says “Professing to be wise, they became fools”. According to Psalms 14:1, atheism is the beginning of all things foolish.
The Bible teaches that all things should be seen through the light and viewpoint of our Almighty Creator. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says: All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

(4) Hell Awaits The Atheist
What’s wrong with being atheist? The problem is hell awaits those who “lack a belief in God”.
Romans 1:18-19 says: For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them.
Atheism is a suppression of the truth. It is a choice to suppress the existence of God.
The Bible clearly tells us that nature or creation itself is proof that God exists and that mankind is without excuse in relation to God’s existence.
Romans 1:20 says: For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse
God has also put eternity in the heart of man (Ecclesiastes 3:11). Without God in his life, man will always have a void that only God can fill.
If a person does not believe in God, then that person leaves absolutely no room for salvation in his life. Salvation from hell begins first with the faith that God exists.
Hebrews 11:3 says: By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.
Hebrews 11:6 says: But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
Therefore atheism is a rejection of God; it is a rejection of the one and only Saviour from sin and hell; it is a rejection of eternal life.

BELIEVE IN GOD. CHOOSE GOD.
If as an atheist you are doubting evolution and atheism, it’s important to know that God DOES exist and God does NOT reject anybody who comes to Him.
An atheist can learn about God and discover the wonderful plan that God has for his/her life by converting to Christianity. It’s through the Christian faith that we learn about the grace and mercy of God and the love that He has towards us through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ for our sins. Jesus paid for our sins (John 3:16).
The gift of eternal life and the opportunity to have a relationship with God is open to whosoever will be believe.

2. REPENT: “Unless you repent you will all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3), “Repent therefore and be converted that your sins may be blotted out” (Acts 3:19)
Repenting means: to change your mind; a sincere turning away, in heart, mind and action;
Therefore God wants you to repent of sinful values and of sinful living. God wants you to decide to
follow Him and to make Jesus the Lord of your life.

3. CONFESSION: “If we confess our sins. He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9)
God is a forgiving God. God will forgive any sin that you have done because Jesus died for ALL your sins and to set you free from the bondage of all types of sin in your life.

4. BELIEVE: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
You must believe that ONLY Jesus can save you and restore your relationship with God. You must believe that Jesus is the ONLY way by which you can have everlasting life and escape from eternal separation from God. You must believe that Jesus died on the cross for you and resurrected from the grave.
“He came to His own, and His own did not receive him, But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name” (John 1:11-12)
By faith, You must receive Jesus as Your Lord & Savior and therefore; you become a child of God; you become born again; you become a Christian; you restore your broken relationship with God

We become born again Christians by GRACE through FAITH or TOTAL TRUST in Jesus Christ as our Lord & Savior (Galatians 3:26) & (Ephesians 2:8,9). Salvation is a FREE gift received through FAITH in Christ.
