What are the Sandals of the Gospel of Peace?
Ephesians 6:15 – And, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace.
What are the sandals of the gospel of peace? Every soldier needs the proper shoes when he goes into battle. Shoes are a very important part of the armor of God and without shoes one can find it difficult to step on difficult terrain. When you are barefoot you might step on sharp, rough, hot and uncomfortable ground which would make your mobility uncomfortable and strenuous. It’s a bit like the journey of life.
So what are the sandals of the preparation of the gospel of peace all about? What does it mean?
1. The gospel of peace is likened to wearing shoes or sandals because as Christians we are expected by God to evangelize.
God wants us to share the Gospel pertaining to the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and the penalty He aid for our sins on the cross. We are not expected to remain seated or inactive, but we are expected to go out and share the Good News of Jesus Christ who brings peace through His salvation. As Christians we must fulfill the Great Commission and make disciples.
In Matthew 28:19-20 Jesus says: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
2. Peace is a very important factor when you are fighting a spiritual battle.
You need to continually be walking in the peace of God, even in the midst of a storm or battle.
In John 16:33 Jesus said “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
3. Make peace contagious.
In Matthew 5:9 Jesus said: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God”
When you are wearing the sandals of the preparation of the gospel of peace, you have the duty of introducing others to the peace that is only found in Jesus. Wherever you go, you also have the duty of spreading the gospel of Christ so that people may be saved.
John 20:21 says: So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.”
You cannot be effective for Christ and in spreading the gospel if you do not have the peace of Christ in you.
4. Peace is required even during spiritual warfare.
This kind of peace is the internal peace from God that remains even under stressful and turbulent circumstances. Peace through God will help crush the devil under your feet.
Romans 16:20 says: The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
How then do you therefore shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace?
1. You must not be anxious about anything, but you must pray about everything (Philippians 4:6)
2. You must think good thoughts so that peace may guard you heart and mind (Philippians 4:7-9)
3. You must give complete trust to God and not lean on your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5–6)
4. You must remember that the battle belongs to the Lord. It is not your battle. Let God fight for you. (Exodus 14:14)
5. You must preach the word in season and out of season (2 Timothy 4:2). This means that every circumstance can be a good time to share the gospel and share the word of God.
Exodus 14:14 NKJV
The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.
