Are Babies Born Atheists?

Some atheists have argued that every baby is born an atheist. They claim that a child is “brainwashed” from birth into believing in God or gods because of the child’s social and cultural background. Therefore the argument is that children only believe in God or gods because of the influence of parents, culture, geographic location and the dominant religion prevailing as the child is growing.
So the question is this: Are babies born atheists?

An Oxford University study that was conducted internationally for 3 years, set out to establish whether belief in divine beings and an afterlife were ideas simply learned from society or integral to human nature.
The Oxford study discovered that all humans are naturally predisposed to believe in gods and life after death. The study also discovered that human thought processes were “rooted” to religious concepts such as the existence of supernatural agents or gods, and the possibility of an afterlife or pre-life.
In addition one of the studies from Oxford concluded that children below the age of 5 found it easier to believe in some “superhuman” properties than to understand human limitations.
Therefore the study reveals that people are NOT born atheists but they are naturally predisposed to believe in the supernatural.

Romans 1:20-21 tells us that the proof of the existence of God is in His creation or in the things that God has made. The scripture also reveals that man is “without excuse” when it pertains to the existence of God.
Therefore atheism is not a natural process of thinking. The human mind is not designed to have a disbelief in God or in the supernatural.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 says that God has “put eternity into man’s heart”. This means that in every human soul God has put a desire for the things that are eternal and not just the things that are natural or temporary. This means that every human being is capable of discovering the eternal God and the eternal things of God and His kingdom. Every human soul yearns for something beyond just the natural or physical.
The major problem with agnosticism and atheism is that there is a deliberate SUPPRESSION of the existence of God that takes place in the heart of the agnostic and atheist.
God is purposely suppressed in the heart and mind of the atheist for various reasons. For example – an atheist may not like the idea of being accountable for sin; the atheist may have a wrong concept of God’s character; the atheist is deceived into believing that life is “better” without God in the equation, so suppressing belief in God is seen as the ideal coping mechanism for his/her life.

The evidence that atheists suppress God, is in their passionate and vehement opposition of God, Christianity and anything that promotes the things of God.
Therefore the conclusion is that atheists seem to hate God and so the question becomes this: If God doesn’t exist – why do atheists oppose and hate Him?
Ray Comfort says “Atheists don’t hate fairies, leprechauns, or unicorns because they don’t exist. It is impossible to hate something that doesn’t exist. Atheists hate God because HE DOES EXIST”.

Nobody is born an atheist. What atheists need to do is open their hearts to a loving God who is willing to embrace them and give them eternal life through His Son Jesus Christ.
Atheists needs to have a humble heart and to understand that God loves them and He wants to reveal Himself to them if they approach Him in humility and faith.

1. ACKNOWLEDGE: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
This means that we have all broken God’s laws and God’s 10 Commandments like those mentioned in Exodus 20:1-17. For example, if you have told a lie; if you have stolen something; if you have lusted after somebody or if you have coveted. This means you are guilty of breaking at least one or more of God’s 10 Commandments. Breaking God’s commandments makes us sinners. The fact that we are sinners who have broken God’s law means that we are accountable to God who is the Lawgiver. Romans 6:23 says that “the wages of sin is death BUT the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”
You must acknowledge that you are a sinner who has broken God’s commandments and that you therefore need Jesus in your life.

2. REPENT: “Unless you repent you will all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3), “Repent therefore and be converted that your sins may be blotted out” (Acts 3:19)
Repenting means: to change your mind; a sincere turning away, in heart, mind and action;
Therefore God wants you to repent of sinful values and of sinful living. God wants you to decide to follow Him and to make Jesus the Lord of your life.

3. CONFESSION: “If we confess our sins. He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9)
God is a forgiving God. God will forgive any sin that you have done because Jesus died for ALL your sins and to set you free from the bondage of all types of sin in your life.

4. BELIEVE: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
You must believe that ONLY Jesus can save you and restore your relationship with God. You must believe that Jesus is the ONLY way by which you can have everlasting life and escape from eternal separation from God. You must believe that Jesus died on the cross for you and resurrected from the grave.
“He came to His own, and His own did not receive him, But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name” (John 1:11-12)
By faith, You must receive Jesus as Your Lord & Savior and therefore; you become a child of God; you become born again; you become a Christian; you restore your broken relationship with God
