Should People Practice Witchcraft?

The ever changing culture and the media manipulation has changed people’s perception of witchcraft. With the influence of books and movies such as Harry Potter and many other fictional characters, the perception of witchcraft has changed and the practice of witchcraft has increased. Witchcraft and Wicca has been “normalized” and is becoming a trending lifestyle especially with the young.
Witchcraft has always been widespread in Africa. In fact, witchcraft has always been infused in many African cultural beliefs.
However even in America and Europe, Wicca is becoming one of the fastest growing religious movements.
People both young and old and from different backgrounds have been gradually embracing the practice of witchcraft whether secretly or openly.

Witchcraft involves spiritual rituals and the attempt to manipulate people, circumstances or events through incantations and the casting of spells. Witchcraft can also involve various spiritual rituals and practices such as communication with demonic spirits or the attempt to communicate with the dead.
At its core, witchcraft is essentially about spiritually controlling and manipulating things that cannot be ordinarily controlled by natural means. This spiritual control and manipulation requires the assistance of demonic spirits and their assistance will always come at a price.

Therefore, should people practice witchcraft? Why do people engage in witchcraft irrespective of their religious backgrounds? What are the dangers of practicing Wicca or witchcraft?

Deuteronomy 18:10-12 says: There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord…

All forms of witchcraft is viewed by God as being a sin and it is forbidden by God.
Why is witchcraft a sin and why does God forbid it? One of the main reasons is that witchcraft involves sourcing spiritual power and spiritual knowledge from God’s enemy – the devil.
The reason why God forbids sorcery, conjuring of spells, witchcraft and the like is because these practices are demonic and involve demonic spirits.
People who practice witchcraft eventually open themselves to demonic possession and serious spiritual harm and bondage.
Witchcraft may at first give the impression of power, invincibility and the presumption that anything is possible – however witchcraft is a demonic deception that eventually leads to bondage and destruction for those who practice it.

Another reason why God forbids witchcraft is because it is an attempt to live life independent of God. Instead of being dependent on God for all that we need, there are some people who think that God does not have their best interest. So they attempt to take matters into their own hands by getting involved in Wicca or witchcraft.
Isaiah 8:19 says: And when they say to you, “Inquire of the mediums and the necromancers who chirp and mutter,” should not a people inquire of their God? Should they inquire of the dead on behalf of the living?

Consulting witchdoctors or spirit mediums reflects a lack of trust in God. When people practice witchcraft, they reflect that they trust in the power of demonic spirits and demonic knowledge rather than in the power of God and the word of God.
1 Timothy 4:1 says that some people will devote themselves to the doctrines of demons. The knowledge, the spells, the incantations involved in witchcraft all fall under the doctrines of demons because such knowledge is sourced from demonic spirits.

The Practice of Witchcraft Leads to Hell
Revelations 21:8 says: But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

In Galatians 5:19-21, witchcraft or sorcery is listed as a work of the flesh and the unrepentant practicing of such will lead to hell. It says: Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

It’s important to understand the seriousness of witchcraft and that practicing it reflects allegiance to the forces of Satan rather than to God.

Witchcraft however is a forgivable sin. One can repent from witchcraft and be forgiven by God. The Bible says that if we confess our sins, God is just and faithful to forgive us (1 John 1:9).
In fact, all kinds of sins can be forgiven by God because of the price that Jesus Christ paid on the cross for our sins.
So for anyone who has practiced witchcraft, that person has the opportunity to be forgiven and to become a born again Christian through believing and trusting in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior (John 1:12)
