Changing Your Thought Life

Proverbs 23:7 NKJV
For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.

How you think and what you think about is very important in your personal life. If you are always thinking bad, negative thoughts, then you are most likely going to live a negative lifestyle and you will always have a pessimistic view of life and situations. Whenever your thought life is wrong, you will surely lack peace of mind.
Your actions and your decisions in life are products of your thoughts and views. Proverbs 23:7 basically explains that you are a product of your thought life; You will become what you think.
If you are always thinking that you are a failure, then you will most likely fail or prepare to fail. However, if you believe you are successful, then your thoughts and actions will move in the direction of succeeding no matter the challenges or problems you may face.

Philippians 4:8-9
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy — meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.

Very often in life, we struggle with our thought life. The only way that we can overcome negative thoughts is through a process of replacing our negative thinking with issues and things that are positive and Godly. In Philippians 4:8,9 Paul teaches that there are several areas in life in which we can focus our thought life so that we may have peace.

Thoughts that are TRUE

If you spend time thinking thoughts that are based on speculation, assumption, fear and gossip then there is a great possibility that such thoughts are never 100% true. Whenever your thoughts of a person, a situation or a challenge in your life are based on a lie, then you open your thoughts and decision making life to a culture of deception. An incorrect thought, may result in an incorrect action.

  • When something is said to be TRUE, it means that it is real – genuine – faithful – right – actual – loyal – precise – right
  • If you want to discover what is true, then learn to seek the truth from the Holy Spirit who will lead you into all truth (John 16:12-15).
  • The truth can also be discovered in God’s word. The Bible is God’s story, teachings and inspiration to mankind (2 Timothy 3:16).
  • The truth can also be discovered by having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Jesus said that He is the way, the TRUTH and the life. Jesus IS truth, therefore to know the truth, one must know Jesus. (John 14:6)

Therefore, if your thought life is going to be full of peace, then you need to avoid thoughts that have been planted in your mind through gossip, assumption, fear or speculation. Such negative thoughts need to be replaced by information that is based on God’s scripture.
You may have negative thoughts about somebody – is what you think of that person true?
You might think that there is no solution for your problem – have you checked God’s word to see what God thinks of your personal challenges?
If you are to succeed in your thought life, then you need to stop living in deception – and start living according to the truth of God’s word.
Start with your thoughts!!! Start by thinking of “whatever things are TRUE”.
