Does the Bible teach about a pre-Adamic race?

Did other humans or humanoids exist before Adam and Eve? Does the Bible say anything about a pre-Adamic race or civilization?
No, the Bible does not teach that there was a race of people who existed before Adam.

The Bible is very clear that Adam was the first human being created by God. Therefore a pre-Adamic race never existed because of the following Biblical reasons:

1. Creation was made in 6 literal days
Genesis 1:1-31 gives us a historical account of the creation of the world. The Bible teaches that God created all things in six 24-hour days.
The Bible indicates that the creation days were literal 24-hour periods by consistently using the phrase “there was evening and there was morning…” to conclude each day’s creative work from Day 1 to Day 6 (Genesis 1:5,8,13,19,23,31).

The fact that God created the universe in 6 literal days with the climax being the creation of mankind on day 6, destroys the false “gap theory” claim that there was a large gap of time in which there may have been another race of humans or humanoids.

2. All humans and nations descended from one man, Adam
Acts 17:26 NLT reads: From one man He created all the nations throughout the whole earth. He decided beforehand when they should rise and fall, and He determined their boundaries.

It was Adam and Eve (the first man and first woman) who were commanded by God to create descendants: to multiply and be fruitful in the earth (Genesis 1:26-28).

Genesis 5:1-3 says: This is the book of the generations of Adam. When God created man, He made him in the likeness of God. 2 Male and female He created them, and He blessed them and named them Man when they were created.

3. Adam was the first person literally created by God
1 Corinthians 15:45 NLT states: The Scriptures tell us, “The first man, Adam, became a living person.” But the last Adam—that is, Christ—is a life-giving Spirit.

Genesis 2:7 says: Then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.

The Bible is clear to describe how the first man Adam was made: he was made from the dust on the ground and then God made the first man a “living creature / person” by breathing into his nostrils.

4. Eve was the mother of all human beings, which implies that there were no humans before her and Adam.
Genesis 3:20 says: The man called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.

Genesis 3:20 cements the fact that Eve was the first mother. She was the first human to give birth to another human being. Therefore a pre-Adamic race could not have existed before Adam and Eve.

5. Sin and death entered the world through Adam, implying there was no sin or death before Adam
Romans 5:12 NLT says: When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.

The Bible gives no evidence of any race having been created before Adam. All the Biblical evidence points to Adam as being the first human and that all of humanity descended from Adam.
Furthermore, the Bible reveals that as humans we inherited our sinful nature from Adam because of his disobedience in the garden of Eden (Genesis 3:1-24). Therefore all of humanity is in need of a Saviour – Jesus Christ who paid for our sins on the cross.
To believe in a pre-Adamic race would imply that death and sin existed before Adam. However the Bible is explicit in declaring that sin and death existed because of the sin of the first man – Adam.

So the belief in a pre-Adamic race ultimately attempts to distort the Gospel message and to distort the Biblical origins of mankind.
The Bible is clear that Adam was made on the 6th day in God’s image and that no other humanoid race or pre-Adamic civilization was created prior to the creation of Adam.
