What’s Wrong with Pornography?
When we look at the general Internet pornography statistics alone you will discover the following information:
• 28000 users are watching pornography on the Internet EVERY SECOND
• More than 1 billion users watch pornography on the Internet EVERY DAY
• 2.5 billion emails that are sent or received EVERY DAY contain pornography
Below are some problems that are associated with pornography
1. PORNOGRAPHY AFFECTS YOUR BRAIN & THINKING
Pornography is addictive and according to both scientists and psychologists, pornography can rewire and weaken your brain. The fact that pornography is addictive in nature is evidence that it has an effect on an individual’s pattern of thinking. Pornography also weakens your ability to practice self-control due to its addictive nature and therefore weakens your will-power.
2. PORNOGRAPHY AFFECTS YOUR VIEW OF THE OPPOSITE SEX
Pornography causes people to objectify the opposite sex. Men objectify women and women objectify men. The opposite sex is constantly viewed in a lustful and sensual way by people who are addicted to porn. Therefore, instead of viewing people in a respectful way and with respectful thoughts, people who consume porn tend to view others with secret sexual thoughts. All people are meant to be viewed and respected as people who are made in God’s image.
3. PORNOGRAPHY AFFECTS YOUR RELATIONSHIPS
If you are married, porn creates unrealistic expectations that will leave you empty and unfulfilled with your spouse. Even single people are affected because pornography distorts the true value and meaning of a loving relationship between 2 people.
4. PORNOGRAPHY AFFECTS YOUR SPIRITUAL LIFE
Pornography depraves your soul. Pornographic images have the effect of branding your soul and conscience and the images can remain with you for months and years.
It’s therefore important to understand the negative effects of watching pornography and the long term effects it has on one’s relationships.
God’s word forbids us from lusting and from thinking patterns that are unhealthy in nature.
2 Timothy 2:22 says: Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
