The Value of Sinners

Luke 15:1-2 NKJV
Then all the tax collectors and the sinners drew near to Him to hear Him. And the Pharisees and scribes complained, saying, “This Man receives sinners and eats with them.

The battle between God and Satan is for people. There is nothing more important to both God and the devil than your life. The question is, whose side are you on?
God wants you on His side so that you may prosper and have eternal life in His Son Jesus.
The devil wants you on his side so that he may eventually kill, steal and destroy you.

The Pharisees and scribes despised that Jesus would spend time teaching and being among the tax collectors and sinners. Yet Pharisees somehow failed to understand that Jesus came for the sinners so that they may believe and follow God. The Pharisees themselves also failed to realize that THEY were sinners too and that the Pharisees and scribes needed to repent too.

Therefore Jesus had to teach them the VALUE of a sinner who repents

Luke 15:4-7 NKJV
“What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’ I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.

God’s love for a sinner who repents is such that the whole of Heaven will celebrate if just ONE sinner repents and decides to follow God. And God will put GREAT effort to find those unbelieving people who are lost. Everyone is valuable to God, especially the lost because God desire that sinners should come to Him and be saved through His Son Jesus.

Matthew 18:11 NKJV
For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost.

Jesus focused through-out His ministry on the lost; the sinners; the unbelievers. Therefore as God’s children, what attitude should we have towards sinners or unbelievers?
Our attitude should be like Jesus, and that is: To bring sinner to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. When we do this, we are obeying and imitating Christ.

Matthew 28:19-20 NKJV
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
