Why Are People So Evil? What Makes People Do Bad Things?

Why do people cause mass shootings? Why are people abusive & vengeful? Why do people lie, steal, commit adultery and do so many evil and wicked things in the world?
If you listen and observe very closely, you will realize that every single day, there is evil happening around the world.
You only need to watch the news on TV or to read about a terrible story on the internet to understand that not only is evil everywhere – but you will realize that wickedness & evil is constantly happening every single day.
So the question is – where does evil come from? Who is responsible for evil? What makes people do bad things – and how can be people be so evil?

The Bible says “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; Who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9).
The Bible also says “For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander” (Matthew 15:19).

So what is it – that makes a person to kill and murder innocent people? What makes a person commit adultery? What is it that makes a person abusive and brutal towards others?
The Bible tells us that the condition of the human heart is why we have the problem of evil. The Bible tells us that man is sinful and his heart is not only deceitful above all things – but man’s heart can be desperately wicked. Therefore in many situations in life – the evil deeds cannot be separated from the evil doer.

2 Timothy 3:1-4 says : But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,

The Bible also tells us that before a just and holy God we have all sinned against God.
Romans 3:23 says “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”.
Romans 3:10 says “None is righteous, no, not one”.
Therefore before a just and holy God – there is no one who is innocent.

The Bible teaches that the only remedy for the evil condition of man’s heart is for man to receive a new heart (Ezekiel 36:26-27). The only way that man can receive a new heart is by receiving the heart of Jesus Christ through believing and receiving Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.
2 Corinthians 5:17 says “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold the new has come”.
When God replaces our sinful heart and gives us the heart of Christ, only then are we able to express the nature of a loving God towards one another. Through Christ, society can hate what is evil and cling to what is good.

So someone might ask – why doesn’t God immediately deal with the problem of evil? Why does He allow evil to reign and exist in the world?
2 Peter 3:9 says “The Lord is not slow to fulfill His promise as some count slowness, but He is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance”.

If God has not cleansed the world of evil, it’s only because He is still giving people a chance to repent from their sins and accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.
God’s patience, God’s mercy and God’s grace is at work right now in order to give people a chance to receive a new heart and to reconcile with Him.
Has God given you a new heart? Have you received Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour?
If not – ask Christ to become your Lord & Saviour today.

DO YOU WANT TO BE A CHRISTIAN or A FOLLOWER OF JESUS CHRIST???

1. ACKNOWLEDGE: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). “God be merciful to me a sinner” (Luke 18:13).
You must acknowledge that you are a sinner and that you therefore need Jesus in your life.

2. REPENT: “Unless you repent you will all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3), “Repent therefore and be converted that your sins may be blotted out” (Acts 3:19)
Repenting means: to change your mind; a sincere turning away, in heart, mind and action;
Therefore God wants you to repent of sinful values and of sinful living. God wants you to decide to
follow Him and to make Jesus the Lord of your life.

3. CONFESSION: “If we confess our sins. He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9)
God is a forgiving God. God will forgive any sin that you have done because Jesus died for ALL your sins and to set you free from the bondage of all types of sin in your life.

4. BELIEVE: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
You must believe that ONLY Jesus can save you and restore your relationship with God. You must believe that Jesus is the ONLY way by which you can have everlasting life and escape from eternal separation from God. You must believe that Jesus died on the cross for you and resurrected from the grave.
“He came to His own, and His own did not receive him, But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name” (John 1:11-12)
By faith, You must receive Jesus as Your Lord & Savior and therefore; you become a child of God; you become born again; you become a Christian; you restore your broken relationship with God
